Hey, look, here's a competition where the contestants hurl vicious, ugly insults at each other, wield folding chairs as weapons, and throw each other into plate glass windows and piles of barbed wire, and it isn't the Minnesota recount.
In The Wrestler, has-been pro Randy "The Ram" Robinson (played affectingly by Mickey Rourke) struggles to keep a foundering career going, even as he is thrown curves by life, family, and a body that has seen far too much abuse.
We caught up with director Darren Aronofsky at a New York press day, and got to ask him a few questions.Hey, look, here's a competition where the contestants hurl vicious, ugly insults... more

"THE BOSS" will release his 24th album on January 27, a disc he and the E-Street Band hurriedly recorded during breaks on their tour last year, the veteran rocker said on Monday.
"Working on a Dream" (Columbia) marks the follow-up to "Magic," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in October 2007. Both albums were produced by Brendan O'Brien, who also worked on AC/DC's recent chart-topper "Black Ice.""THE BOSS" will release his 24th album on January 27, a disc he and the... more

David Ford is actually super modest...
Here's an excerpt from his label's bio on him and why we asked him this question:
His experience of playing American shows was especially poignant. He played SXSW four times in March 2006, during which he was asked by Elliot Roberts (Neil Young’s long-standing manager) for another copy of the album “for Neil;” after his NYC debut, Ford was invited by Springsteen’s manager to the Boss’ own rehearsal room; and, following an East coast tour with KT Tunstall, he was invited by Robert de Niro to play his Tribeca Film Festival launch party alongside Elvis Costello and New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint.

Bruce Springsteen called the Bush presidency "a disaster" and said many Americans have "justifiably lost faith" in the American dream. The legendary singer interrupted his seven-song performance at the Obama voter-registration rally in Philadelphia last Saturday to praise Barack Obama and to bemoan the crises facing the next president. "After the disaster of the last eight years, we need somebody to lead us in an American reclamation project," Springsteen said.
Springsteen said that America remains a house of dreams for some, but that too many people have given up on the promise of fairness and equality. "I've spent 35 years writing about America and its people and the meaning of the American promise, a promise handed down right here in this city," said Springsteen, whose songs often depict down-on-their-luck, working-class dreamers. "Our everyday citizens ... have justifiably lost faith in its meaning."
This piece presents photographs from the rally and a video of the full version of Bruce Springsteen's remarks and his performance. In addition, the music video of Springsteen's "The Streets of Philadelphia is included."Bruce Springsteen called the Bush presidency "a disaster" and said many... more
