Despite the current woes in the US housing market, there are still thriving sectors that are showing positive strong growth for the future.
In this piece, we take a glimpse at the inside of the US apartment industry. We examine the evolving culture of an industry that is at the threshold of a new digital and generational revolution
The Multifamily housing or apartment industry is big business, valued at over 2 trillion dollars and employing approximately 700,000 people nation wide, including but not limited to; property managers, maintenance, cleaning and leasing professionals.
The Apartment Association of Metro Denver (AAMD) annual trade show is one example of what is taking place around the country in the apartment industry today.
Industry leaders come together to educate, collaborate and plan the path of tomorrow. Thousands of attendees and hundreds of suppliers meet 1 day a year to highlight the latest and greatest trends in the apartment industry.
What we found especially interesting is the increased focus on the approximately 76 million "Eco Boomers" or "Generation Yer's" now entering a new phase of their lives by exercising their independence in living on their own. With numbers eclipsing their parent's generation, the "Baby Boomers", the industry is eager to provide and adapt to their new clientèle's wants and needs.
Due to their enormous group size and seamless integration of digital media usage, the industry is not only looking to this new generation as customers but also, as employees and future leaders. Strategic partnerships with Colleges and Universities are being sought to help establish the apartment industry as a viable and rewarding career path of tomorrow.
This new generation has grown up in a digital world and will increasingly expect to have the convenience, speed and accessibility of that in which they have grown accustom. The apartment industry as a whole is starting to recognize that to attract and maintain relationships with this generation; the use of digital social media is an absolute necessity to prosper in the 21st century.
This tech savvy group of Gen Yer's is not knocking on the front door, but rather, they are kicking it down 76 million strong and the US apartment industry is taking notice.

Around the kids, they're nothing if not supportive. But a growing number of baby boomer parents are freaking out inside.
They don't want to let on to their adult children that they're getting worried, but these parents are sharing their concerns at work, at the gym, at the grocery store or anyplace they can commiserate: Their offspring — post-college degreed and in their mid- to late 20s — still haven't a clue about what to do with their lives.
These young adults aren't slackers; they often have jobs to pay the rent and are seemingly on their own. But one of parents' biggest worries is whether their close relationships with their children may have stifled their self-sufficiency.

Ed The Oil Painter is a look at a self-taught artist that works at a steel mill by day. He began painting as a hobby at age 45, started taking it seriously at age 53, and is now an established artist with displays in galleries throughout the Ohio Valley and West Virginia. Ed paints on an almost daily basis and has a true passion for oil painting. His message to others is that it's never too late to learn or to be a kid at heart. Watch as he completes a painting during the interview.

As a society we need to pull the data together and really examine what we are doing to our citizens, and other costs, in the "War on Drugs" versus the actual dangers.
This film is 10 minutes long, created with an old version of Flash and no sound editing software. I apologize for the hiss, which I tried to eliminate but to no avail. Someday I will have a decent array of production tools.
Please pass the link on to others.

The smoking boom of the 1950's, 1960's and 1970s is starting to take it's toll on older Americans many of whom quit smoking years ago. this article focuses on the rise of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that used to be thought of an old man's disease now its killing an equal amount or more women.
I think many think that once you quit smoking your lungs will repair and things will be all good if you don't get hit with cancer, but the specter of all those cigs can hang with you forever and destroy your life down the road.
It is time to quit smoking if you already haven't.

George Bush would hate this video.
American baby boomers who are approaching retirement might assume there will be medical and economic safety nets for them if they're disabled or have a chronic illness -- or even if they're well now but suffer a sudden health catastrophe later on. I'm the "canary in the mine," providing an early indicator that until we have universal health-care coverage, there's no guarantee that there will be a safety net for everyone who needs one.
I'm a former high-tech executive, only 63 years old but "retired" in 2002 by multiple sclerosis. Because access to affordable health care is spotty across the U.S., in 2006 I had to move more than 2,000 miles away from my family and the home I loved to obtain the medical resources and economic supports I need.
The terrible "Hobson's Choice" I was forced to make could be yours.George Bush would hate this video.
