Durante l'Asta 'Fotografia' della Casa D'Aste Bloomsbury di Roma, lo scorso 26 ottobre, molti sono stati i lotti invenduti anche fra quelli facenti parte di un'importante collezione privata milanese. Chiederò di spiegarmene la ragione a Silvia Berselli Responsabile del Reparto Fotografia di Palazzo Colonna, soprattutto in relazione ai risultati di vendita delle Aste Fotografiche degli scorsi Maggio e Giugno e delle stime iniziali di questa, altri, per chi ha ancora in mente i 17 mila Euro spesi per il ritratto di Adolf de Meyer alla Marchesa Luisa Casati con quella dedica di Gabriele D'Annunzio che così recitava: "La carne non è se non uno spirito promesso alla Morte", del 1913.
Soffio vitale all'Asta del 26 lo ha portato Ugo Mulas, il primo a fotografare il behind-the-scenes delle avanguardie artistiche, americane ed europee, degli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta, con quel suo ritratto di 'Lucio Fontana il taglio', venduto a Euro 3348 e quello di Mario Giacomelli, con 'Io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto' che ha sfiorato Euro 7600. C'è da dire che Mario Giacomelli ed Ugo Mulas sono fra i pochi nomi, insieme ai fratelli Bragaglia, ad essere presenti nell'Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century Photography by Lynne Warren (London, 2006), e se io avessi la fortuna di essere un collezionista credo farei riferimento anche a questo elemento. Prova ne è, forse, anche il loro prezzo d'acquisto, che ha superato di molto la stima iniziale; ma anche il fatto che i ritratti a René Burri, De Chirico e Andy Warhol di un Aurelio Amendola anni Settanta, non hanno riscosso lo stesso successo e sono rimasti fra i lotti invenduti.
L'arte come investimento va oltre il gusto personale ed è gioco chesi regola su parametri sottili. Quali essi siano, lo chiederò di nuovo alla Dottoressa Berselli, considerando anche che erano tutte stampe ai sali d'argento e vintage.
Al magnifico 'California' di un Elliott Erwitt metà anni Cinquanta, la Bloomsbury di Roma ha dato il compito di chiudere l'asta più propriamente fotografica (dal lotto 107 si sono susseguite le prime edizioni di alcune pubblicazioni e riviste periodiche, dalla fine degli anni Venti a metà degli Ottanta) e pare che la scelta sia stata più che ricompensata dal risultato. Quella donna che sorride stretta al suo uomo e ripresa, con un escamotage, dallo specchietto retrovisore di un'automobile ha suscitato l'interesse di un acquirente a noi ignoto, che ha pagata più di 4000 Euro per averla. Una rivalutazione dei sentimenti, forse, di una felicità spontanea ed un garbo, che è difficile vedere (ritratta) oggi, e che poco ha a che fare (almeno nell'accezione dell'italiano corrente), con quel titolo scelto da Contrasto per 'Amanti', pubblicazione del 2004, sulla quale compariva in prima di copertina.
Ma è stato proprio Ugo Mulas con un buon esemplare di un'opera editoriale: "New York: Arte e Persone”, a spegnere le luci sull'Asta. Mulas - che grazie allo sforzo di un amico giornalista divenne fotografo ufficiale della Biennale di Venezia dal 1958 al 1964 -, si recò negli Stati Uniti subito dopo (dal 1964 al 1969) e creò, con l'aiuto del gallerista Leo Castelli e dello scrittore Alan Salomon, una serie di ritratti in b/n sui principali artisti della scena americana di quegli anni. Fra questi gli scultori John Chamberlain, Claes Oldenburg, George Segal e Marcel Duchamp (ritratto mentre gioca a scacchi con una donna nuda); ed i pittori Jim Dine, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Barnett Newmann, Larry Poons, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol e Tom Wesselmann. Quest'importante serie è stata collezionata proprio per la pubblicazione edita dalla Longanesi di Milano nel 1967 il cui disegno è stato curato da Michele Provinciali. "New York: Arte e Persone", lotto 119, è stata venduta per 1116 Euro.
Christie's auction house will offer up a portrait of Michael Jackson by Andy Warhol in New York on Nov. 10.
The auction house told The Associated Press on Friday that the 30-by-26-inch portrait should fetch an estimated $500,000 to $700,000. It's one of a small group of Warhol silk-screened images of Jackson created in 1984.
The painting depicts Jackson smiling in a "Thriller"-era jacket, with squiggles of red and yellow in his hair.
Deputy chairman Brett Gorvy says the seller is an anonymous private collector in New York who bought it from the Andy Warhol Foundation in the 1990s.
The image is part of 47 lots being auctioned, including two other Warhol paintings.

Fotografie di rara bellezza e fascino, spesso in bianco e nero, in mostra oggi e per un giorno alla Bloomsbury di Milano, le rivedremo poi nella sede romana della celebre Casa, verso la fine di Ottobre, con asta in tornata unica, il 26 Ottobre.
Fra i lotti, i primi (1-53) son d'eccezione e provengono da un collezionista privato milanese.
Insieme agli altri (54-106) Bloomsbury presenta anche una serie di volumi e riviste illustrate, spesso in una prima edizione (lotti 107-119), per un totale di 119 lotti.
Nella collezione privata spiccano i ritratti di Andy Warhol, De Chirico e Burri fatti da Aurelio Amendola negli anni Settanta; quelli di Armin Linke a Keith Haring e Gilbert & George e quelli in bianco e nero per L'Uomo Vogue e Vogue Italia curati da Gian Paolo Barbieri. E poi i colori per certi versi surreali della New York, la Milano e la Praga di Franco Fontana (siamo verso la fine dei Novanta) insieme a quel suo scatto del 1985 al Fine Art Museum of Houston nella quale si ritrova tutta la nitidezza e la luce delle opere architettoniche, delle colonne maestose, del paesaggio americano. La New York in bianco e nero e bagnata di Mario De Biasi e quel celebre scatto del 1954 intitolato "Gli Italiani si voltano". Una divertente Donna Ferrato in “Amore Yasmeen e Fanny” del 1992 ed i ritratti austeri ed a colori di Gérard Rancinan “Otto Muehl, mani” e “Philippe Barbarin, Arcivescovo di Lione” pubblicati ne 'La Trilogia del Sacro Selvaggio', Motta , 2007. E poi i dettagli su Roma di Luigi Ghirri, i paesaggi in bianco e nero di Mimmo Jodice, Raffaella Mariniello e Gianni Berengo Ghardin. Le illuminazioni artificiali di Olivo Barbieri su Osaka, Parma, Pisa e Roma.
Dalla collezzione privata ai restanti lotti attraverso alcune fotografie storiche fra le quali quelle di Gustave Le Gray con il suo ritratto di Garibaldi del 1860; di Gaetano d'Agata e Wilhelm Von Gloeden.
Dal lotto 66 si respira la moda di Martin Parr e Sara Moon, i colori di Lugi Veronesi. E poi, di nuovo, con un salto in dietro, i ritratti in bianco e nero di Man Ray e André Kertész fino al "Taglio di Lucio Fontana" di Ugo Mulas.
Dal neorealismo di Jodice a Mario Giacomelli, da Robert Doisneau (manca il suo celebre 'Bacio') ad Alberto Korda e Gordon Parks, da Henri Cartier-Bresson al “Jeux d’enfants, Paris” di Edouard Boubat (1952), fino ad un fantastico gioco creato da uno specchietto retrovisore. La costa, un auto ed una donna sognante che ride stretta al volto del suo uomo. Con "California" di Elliott Erwitt del 1955 (Copertina nel volume “Amanti”, Contrasto 2004 e nel volume “Elliott Erwitt collezione privata”, Contrasto 1997) si chiudono i lotti delle stampe vintage e si susseguono gli ultimi 13 lotti composti da riviste e volumi illustrati.
Da una prima edizione di uno dei migliori libri di propaganda fascista: “Italia Imperiale” (Manilo Morgagni Editore, Milano 1937) alla “Ceskoslovenska" di Josef Sudek and Others (XX secolo), fino alla “Milano, Italia” di Mario Carrieri visibilmente influenzato da William Klein (Lerici, Milano 1959). Da “Il messaggio della camera oscura” di Carlo Mollino (Chiantore, Torino 1949), alla "Milano" di Giulia Pirelli e Carlo Orsi (Bruno Alfieri, 1965, prima edizione). Chiude “Les Amèricains” di Robert Frank (Robert Delpire, Paris 1958) e “New York: Arte e Persone” di Ugo Mulas (Longanesi, Milano 1967).

Qualche giorno fa, il 16 Giugno scorso, la Bloomsbury di Roma chiude con un altro significativo successo l'asta Libri Autografie e Stampe.
Se fra la sezione Libri che mostrava impressionanti edizioni del XVI Secolo, molti ma non parecchi sono stati i lotti rimasti invenduti, per quanto importanti e di pregio (vedasi la prima edizione latina dei 'Dialoghi di Galileo', lotto 200, ed i primi due tomi de Il Nuovo Atlante Geografico Universale che costituiscono la poderosa opera del Cassini, lotto 257, o la prima edizione dei disegni che il Piazzetta eseguì fra il 1735 e il 1743 per 'La Gerusalemme Liberata' di Torquato Tasso) altri e fra questi il lotto 385 che rappresentava l'edizione originale e di sicuro più importante - tanto per la sua struttura grafica, tanto per essere una sorta di manifesto ideologico del Futurismo - di Fortunato Depero sono stati venduti aumentando il loro valore di stima.
I primi 80 lotti dei 458 all'asta martedì scorso hanno riconfermato la supremazia di Palazzo Colonna.
Mentre alla Sothebys' di Parigi sfilavano le lettere dei Re di Francia (il lotto 25 che conteneva 28 lettere autografe di Luigi XV con il Duca De Penthièvre. Versailles, Fontainebleau, 1765-1771 era stato stimato sugli 80,000 euro e venduto per 126,000) alla Bloomsbury di Roma una sezione ricca ed importante di autografi italiani ha riportato un'ondata di ottimismo meditato che si è fatto più che beffa della crisi.
Fra i carteggi autografati quelli della Collezione Camuccini (con documenti di Michelangelo, Raffaello, Donatello ed altri maestri del Rinascimento Italiano), gli archivi di Ada Negri, e le fotografie e la corrispondenza passionale fra Gabriele D'Annunzio e Luisa Baccara, sua utlima compagna.
La straordinaria raccolta della celebre poetessa Ada Negri - prima donna ad essere ammessa fra gli Accademici d'Italia nel 1940 - che conteneva documenti, lettere e fotografie aveva ricevuto una stima che oscilava fra i 55,000 euro e i 65,000 euro ed è stata venduta per 68,200 euro. Il carteggio intenso della Collezione Baccara - musicista di talento che aveva deciso di lasciare le scene, per esibirsi ai tasti, in esclusiva, per il suo D'Annunzio -, partiva da una stima compresa fra i 30,000 ed i 35,000 euro ed è stata venduta per 43,400 euro.
Meditazione dunque fra la crisi dell'industria e del consumo e l'ottimismo dei collezionisti d'arte per un'annata che pare migliore di quella precedente e che non si è ancora conclusa.

"International recording artist, singer, composer/arranger and one of the world’s greatest jazz pianists, Buddy Greco, with a career spanning over 70 years and 68 albums, is making his memorabilia collection available for sale on eBay. Included in the auction are 6 of the last photos of Marilyn Monroe alive, taken during the controversial and infamous weekend at the Cal Neva Lodge, just 5 days before her death.
“I’ve been collecting memorabilia throughout my career,” said Buddy Greco, preparing for the night’s show in Buddy Greco’s Dinner Club near Palm Springs, California. “I’ve enjoyed my collection and these rare photos for over 40 years, taken by my manager and my then wife during that last weekend in Cal Neva, Nevada. Imagine my surprise and dismay when I heard the news about my dear friend Marilyn a few short days later.”
The photos were part of a 36-shot roll, of which only 6 remain, and are the last known photos of Marilyn Monroe alive. Buddy received 6 of the photos after separating from his wife. In one of them, you see one of the most influential hairstylists’ of the stars; Jay Sebring, cutting Buddy’s hair at the lodge that day. Mr. Sebring was eventually murdered by the Manson Family in the Sharon Tate murders in 1969. The other 30 photos were stored in an office at the World Trade Center, and were lost forever as they met their own shocking end when the Twin Towers were destroyed on September 11, 2001.

A woman in Germany who became pregnant after an online sex auction has won a court battle to force the Web site that hosted the sale to reveal the names of the winners, so she can find out who's the father. Six different men won Internet auctions to have sex with the woman in April and May last year. They were only known to her by their online names, a spokesman for a court in the southwestern city of Stuttgart said on Wednesday.

Sotheby's has withdrawn a painting from Wednesday's auction of the contents of late Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace's Lake Como villa amid suspicion it may have been stolen.

Several personal items that once belonged to Mohandas Gandhi, the Indian independence leader,
have been sold at a New York City auction for $1.8m.
The items were reportedly bought by VJ Mallya, a wealthy Indian businessman who reportedly plans to donate the items to the Indian government, his bidder told Reuters.
The move comes despite the seller attempting at the last minute to withdraw the items, which included a pair of Gandhi's glasses, a pair of sandals, a watch and other effects, after India reacted angrily to news of the auction.
James Otis, the California-based seller, had said earlier on Thursday he "never intended" to cause controversy, but later dropped his opposition to the sale, his lawyer told AFP.
