Hanging out with Karl Largerfeld must have really made an impression on Lily. Yesterday the singer announced she plans to take a break from her music career to focus on a fashion business this spring. Here is the twist, she will not be designing clothes, but renting them out to the public. Allen plans on calling her future shop "Lucy in Disguise". It will be a joint venture with her sister and the store will lend "occasional" clothes to women for a fraction of the item's retail price. "It's about making fashion democratic," Allen said. "It's about getting really nice clothes but letting people rent them for affordable prices, so they can go out and feel like a million dollars, and it won't cost them a million dollars." We are hoping she takes her boutique online, so we can see the entire frock selection.Hanging out with Karl Largerfeld must have really made an impression on Lily.... more

It begins..
"When I shop, I become a fierce, focused creature who does not like to be disturbed by ANYONE. When a friend asks me if I’d like to go shopping, I always try to weasel out of it. I don’t want to be interrupted with questions about HER dress or what I think about how HER shoes look on HER feet. I need to focus on the sale racks, sizes—my eyes rapidly scanning for deals without any deterrent.
I love shopping. There are many women who detest it and only go when they have to find an outfit for an occasion. I adore just heading out and perusing the boutiques seeing what I can drool over and store in my mind for when the sales come. I love the air-conditioned rooms, the music the they play, the pang in my heart when I see a tag with a red slash through it. I am a hunter and clothes are my prey….."
Read on…it’s HILARIOUS! Great pictures (Kate Moss in lingerie….how can you beat that……..) and it’s a witty, well-written quick-read.

A new SoHo boutique named The 1929 - after the Depression - and a place where fashionistas and the down-and-out soon could be rubbing shoulders.
The street level store on MottSt. is decked out with racks of snazzy dresses, pants and tops by independent designers.
The basement level has been transformed into an art and performance space by night and a spot where hungry shoppers, or even passersby, can pick up a free bowl of soup and coffee during the day.

A little over a year ago I started a blog called Fly where I feature art, fashion, and design hoping to inspire other minority women to be fabulously creative. This past spring I added webisodes to my blog so that I could show what I like in a live action format. The response has been wonderful and I thought it would be fun to share this webisode with Current TV's audience.
I think it's important to show minority women doing something positive and refreshing. I don't get to see a lot of African-American women doing fabulously creative things on television so I thought why not do it myself. I do it to inspire others and hopefully I can inspire you in some way.A little over a year ago I started a blog called Fly where I feature art, fashion, and... more
