Countless employers are now facing the problem of dealing with twenty three working days without key employees come 2012. The deadline to volunteer for the Olympics is the 27th of October, 2010. The London 2012 Olympics Organising Committee (LOCOG) have stated that 70,000 voluntary positions need to be filled, but more than 100,000 people have already applied. The voluntary roles consist of general and specialised positions, from desk staff, events stewards and drivers. Volunteers must work for a minimum of 10 days for the Games, and 20 for the Paralympic Games. Training is also mandatory for all participants.
There are also a further 8000 positions to be filled for the role of “London Ambassadors”, which would involve helping the vastly overstated and questionable increase of tourists and visitors in 2012 find their way around the city.

The European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) has warned that the 2012 Olympic games would be harmful to Britain’s tourism industry. The ETOA has published research from cities who previously hosted the Olympic Games, which shows it has a “profoundly disruptive” effect on local tourism. They describe the official estimates for the number of visitors as “exaggerated”. The association warned: “Normal tourist businesses suffer during the Games period . . . The region around the Games can suffer more than the host city . . . The impression that everything will be overcrowded and overpriced blights a region . . . [and] these difficulties are exacerbated by exaggerated claims of the benefits derived from the Games.”
Meanwhile Boris Johnson is drumming up a further 8000 voluntary positions for the role of “London Ambassadors”, which would involve helping the vast increase of tourists and visitors in 2012 to find their way around the city. So no paid tourism jobs there.

Butterface just wrapped a new promo video for the first-ever Youth Olympic Games (held in Singapore in August) and he posted some behind-the-scenes sexiness from the shoot to his Facebook page today. One particular image shows what looks to be a new tattoo–the Youth Olympic Games logo. The image also shows his nipples, so obviously i’m very distracted and could care less if it’s a rub on or a real one.
The videos hits the interwebs May 7.
More snaps after the jump!

It’s the oldest game in the world and plenty of women are on it. From the drug addicted working women of London’s back streets to expensive West End escorts. Most disturbing of all are those unfortunates who have been ensnared by the people trafficking racket of the sex trade. It can be described as the very embodiment of capitalism yet it is regarded as a criminal activity, forcing its workers to operate behind closed doors. A spokesperson from the Poppy project, a North London organisation that provides accommodation and support for trafficked women, elaborates, “It has been said that we are never more than six feet away from a rat in London. Apparently, something similar applies to brothels.”It’s the oldest game in the world and plenty of women are on it. From the drug... more

Stephen Colbert's coverage of the Olympic games hit a snag Monday night when he was informed that NBC has a stranglehold on everything Olympic related.
NBC's grip is so tight, he can't even show any geometric shapes of any size or color without getting sued. If he wants to show the Olympic rings, they must be pixelated. If he wants to say "Olympic coverage," he...well he can't. Luckily he's come up with a better name for the games: "Quadrennial Cold Weather Athletic Competition."

There are some pretty unusual sports in the Olympics -- skeleton, anyone? -- so it's understandable that some fringe athletes would think their particular talent deserving of inclusion, too. But "sport" isn't generally the first word that come to mind when one thinks of pole dancing -- and the words that do? Well, they aren't super family-friendly.
Nonetheless, a petition is circulating to get the discipline into the Olympics and it's already netted roughly 4,000 signatures. Much as this might seem like a sexy publicity stunt (not that pole dancing really needs the added attention) the organizers behind the push appear incredibly earnest. Ania Przeplasko, founder of the International Pole Dancing Fitness Association, told the Associated Press: "There will be a day when the Olympics see pole dancing as a sport. The Olympic community needs to acknowledge the number of people doing pole fitness now. We're shooting for 2012."
It seems far-fetched -- but, hey, Martha Stewart recently rocked the pole on national television and suburban gyms have been fully saturated with strip aerobics classes, so anything is possible these days. "Now, when you talk about it you don't hear 'like a stripper' anymore," Wendy Traskos, co-founder of the U.S. Pole Dance Federation, told the AP. "You hear things like, 'Oh, my friend takes classes for fitness' or 'Yes, I've seen it on Oprah.'" It's considered good, clean fun for women who want to play at being bad without the risk of having a Scarlet-letter stamped on their chest. Having been sufficiently scrubbed of its past of ill repute, "regular" women can take pole dancing classes without ever having to set foot (a Lucite-heeled foot, to be sure) inside an actual strip club.

US ice hockey goalie Jonathan Quick has been ordered to remove the slogan “Support Our Troops” from his helmet because it violates IOC rules against political propaganda.
Netminder Ryan Miller, Quick’s team mate, has also been told to remove the slogan ‘Miller Time’ from his helmet while the third American netminder Tim Thomas had already placed a sticker over a slogan on his mask during training on Monday.
“We will inform the American team and their equipment managers that this is a violation of IOC rules,” IIHF spokesman Szymon Szemberg told Reuters. “According to IOC rule 51, no political propaganda or advertisements are allowed on equipment.
“It the players don’t agree with the interpretation they can ask the USOC (United States Olympic Committee) to petition the IOC.”
