ustin Bieber is the current golden child of pop culture and, as such, he is a character created for mass consumption by hormone addled teen girls which have been a cash cow for the entertainment industry ever since Walt Disney and company first started milking it. I’m wondering if Justin can make the transition from child sensation to adult music or if he will have the frequent crash and burn experience that is so common to child sensations. After all, the clock is ticking. Justin is 16 now and won’t be able to hold off that voice change forever (despite Michael Jackson’s success at doing it).
Enter Greyson Chance. Discovered last year after uploading a video of himself performing lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” at a sixth grade talent showcase he has already appeared on “Ellen” and gotten a music contract. So I am wondering if he is the next elementary school superstar in waiting to take over the reigns from an aging Biebs.

George Steinbrenner famously refused to let Yankees players compete with any facial hair, or "unruly" haircuts. While those relatively manic standards were applied to professionals (extremely highly compensated professionals, at that), a similar measure is now being used to keep an eighth grader off his junior high basketball team.
According to a number of sources, the Indianapolis Star and Associated Press chief among them, the parents of a Greensburg (Ind.) Community Junior High School student have filed a lawsuit against the district citing discrimination against their son, who was kicked off the team because his hairstyle violated a code of appearance established by Greensburg High coach Stacy Meyer, pictured above, which was stipulated in the school's extra-curricular code.
TheIndyChannel.com reported the lawsuit claims coaches told the player he wouldn't be allowed on the court if he failed to cut his hair by a certain date. When the 14-year-old questioned why that was necessary, he was also told that he would be kicked off the team if his parents -- Patrick and Melissa Hayden -- protested the policy.
Obviously, the player and his parents decided to fight for his rights rather than acquiesce to the extracurricular policy's claim that a player's hair be above his eyebrows, collars and ears.
Interestingly, this is the second time in two past calendar years that Greensburg Junior High's basketball team has garnered regional attention for issues it would rather avoid. According to the Greensburg Daily News, the junior high program was involved in a nasty hazing scandal in February 2009, with little official punishment resulting from an episode in which some players hit their teammates in the face with genatalia.
While the banned player's parents feel they have a strong case based on unequal enforcement of the code -- girls are not required to meet similar hair standards to compete in basketball -- the school district claims that a student's right to participate in extracurricular activities is a privilege, not a right.
"In Indiana, everybody is entitled to an education, and that's a right," Greensburg School District Tuck Hopkins told TheIndyChannel.com. "Playing extracurricular activities, we believe the law is it's a privilege, and that's the distinction."
Whether or not the law agrees with that contention is another matter. Regardless of how judges rule, the local public certainly seems to be nearly unanimous in it's support of the athlete in question, as a number told TheIndyChannel.com.
"I just think he should be stipulated to tie his hair up or something like that," said Anthony Johnson. "To cut it off, I think that's taking away a person's mind, body and soul sometimes."
"I think they should be able to wear their hair the way they want to on a basketball team or anywhere else," said resident Aleigh Class.
"It's discrimination, plain and simple," said resident Jesse Summers. "I hope they get what they are after."

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. — The dash across the room took about three seconds, the struggle with guards a little more than a minute.
That's the timeline a security video puts on what authorities call a failed bid for freedom by a teenage double-slaying defendant.
The video, made public Monday, shows Brandon C. Fannin, 17, walk past a guard on the way from his cell at Knox County's Richard L. Bean Juvenile Service Center to take a shower Saturday just before 6:15 p.m. The video shows Fannin suddenly drop his towel, lay his soap on a table and bolt across a day room to punch the guard in the face.
"My guy didn't know what was happening at first, but he did everything by the book," saidRichardBean,thecenter's superintendent.
The video shows the guard, Carl E. Mills Jr., wrestle Fannin to the ground and struggle with him for about 48 seconds before two other guards arrive. Within about a minute, Fannin appears to be subdued. A few minutes later, the guards walk Fannin out in handcuffs and shackles.
"My guy just held onto him," Bean said. "He said he didn't want to hurt the young man."
Bean said Fannin, who already faces two first-degree murder charges in the shooting deaths of his grandparents at their home in Hawkins County in April, threatened to kill Mills if the guard didn't ask a control-room operator to unlock the doors.

A teenager who was a contender for the British Olympics team in 2012 is starting a four-year sentence after admitting three cash van robberies. Olu Oyewobi, 18, was described by his running club as "one of the top athletes for his age in the country". He excelled at 400m hurdles, but also ran 100m and 200m sprints.But 15 months ago he was involved in a string of robberies and suddenly stopped training. He and others attacked a security guard and stole a cash box containing £10,000 at Selco Building Suppliers in East London. He also planned to rob a Post Office cash van, but guards got suspicious about Oyewobi's behaviour and called police. A scorned 17-year-old girl has humiliated Australian Football League players after she posted NUDE photos of the men to her Facebook page. And she promises to expose more!
The full frontal nude images show St. Kilda Football Club captain Nick Riewoldt (above, at left), Nick Dal Santo and Zac Dawson (above, at left) engaging in nude hijinks in a hotel room. The teenager who posted the images says she did it to humiliate the football players for “disrespected her” after she became pregnant during one of her romps with the team.

The 17-year-old was the subject of an AFL investigation this year when she said she fell pregnant to a separate St Kilda player when she was a schoolgirl.
The teenager, whom The Age has opted not to name, said her baby was stillborn on October 5.
She told The Age she was posting the photographs out of revenge. She said she hated St Kilda and the AFL ”because they treated me with disrespect”.
”I just want to let them know what it feels like to have your reputation absolutely ruined,” she said. She has been offering the photographs to media outlets for at least a month, and said last night she would post further pictures until she was satisfied that players knew what it felt like to be degraded.
”They told me to take them and then told me to delete them. I did not delete them,” she said.
The girl says she plans to release naked images of other St. Kilda football players until she’s satisfied that they’ve been punished.

Binge-drinking elephants, drunk on local hooch, have killed three people and destroyed 60 homes in a four-day rampage in east India.
Yesterday they were reported by local officials to be sleeping off hangovers as shocked communities tried to clear the wreckage left by the 70-strong herd in remote villages on the borders of the states of Orissa and West Bengal.
With a local festival approaching, villagers had stockpiled the fermented-rice based drink which is stored in earthenware vessels and, according to Bijay Kumar Panda, a local administrator, the elephants found and drank it.
They then staggered through the surrounding area and began "to fall asleep hither and thither, throwing life completely haywire".
According to the Pioneer newspaper, the "jumbos" are known "for their love of local country-made brews" which they "gulp down and make merry at the expense of the villagers".
Elephant experts say such incidents are becoming more common. With pristine forest increasingly rare, especially in the area where this latest incident occurred, Indian elephants no longer avoid contact with humans, said Dr Amirtharaj Williams, Asian rhino and elephant programme co-ordinator for the World Wildlife Fund. "These herds are effectively semi-urbanised. There are elephants who are getting a taste for food that humans prepare because it is tastier, stronger-smelling and often more nutritious and that includes rice- or molasses-based drinks. Some go looking for it."
Around 400 people are killed each year by elephants in India and nearly a million hectares of farmland damaged.
Around 100 elephants are killed by villagers each year.
India's booming population and economic growth have placed the historic grazing lands of elephants under enormous pressure. To avoid exhausting fodder in one area, the herds migrate. Attempts to create safe corridors for the animals' travel have foundered on bureaucratic sloth and lack of enforcement.
In September seven elephants were killed by a speeding goods train.

Carlie Rose Attebury, 31-year-old former music teacher at El Modena High School, Orange County, California, is on trial facing multiple sex charges for her alleged sexual relationship with a teen boy.
According to her attorney, Attebury had sex with former students and other men over age 18 during "sexual kick-backs" at her home, but will deny on the witness stand that she had sex with an underage boy she taught in the marching band. She faces two felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, one felony count of lewd acts on a child, two felony counts of oral copulation of a minor under 16, one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object of a minor, and one felony count of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime.
