The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports, "Deflecting criticism of his out-of-state travels," Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), once considered a potential 2012 contender, "said Wednesday that a review of his schedule will show that he has been in Louisiana '90 percent of the time' during his first three years in office." Jindal "also reiterated that he has no plans to seek another office but is focused on running for re-election in the fall for a four-year term that he expects to complete. 'I have the job I want,' Jindal said during a meeting at The Times-Picayune. ... 'Yes,' he said flatly when asked whether he is prepared to serve a full second term." Jindal added, "Look, if the people of Louisiana do me the honor of re-electing me, I'll be here. My plan is to serve out eight years and then I've got to get a job in the private sector to pay my bills."

Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed into law one of the more controversial bills from the recent legislative session, one allowing guns to be carried into houses of worship.
[State Representative Henry] Burns' [R-Haughton] bill would authorize persons who qualified to carry concealed weapons having passed the training and background checks to bring them to churches, mosques, synagogues or other houses of worship as part of a security force.
Some restrictions apply. The "head of the religious institution" would have to "announce verbally or in weekly newsletters or bulletins that there will be individuals armed on the property as members of the security force," and those lucky individuals would have to receive "eight hours of tactical training each year."

Jindal is calling on the president to force British Petroleum to immediately start paying to fortify Louisiana's coastline with barrier islands so the oil can be caught before it comes ashore.
The federal government has only agreed to pay for a fraction of the 24 barrier islands he wants built, adding to Jindal's frustration.
As Jindal is unsatisfied with not only bp's response to the oil spill in the gulf, he is frustrated with the limited funds being provided by the federal government.Gov. Last Friday night, Allee Bautsch, the chief fundraiser for Louisiana's Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal, was violently assaulted, along with her boyfriend, outside of a famed New Orleans restaurant. Reports on the incident remain murky, but a source close to Bautsch tells Yahoo! News that Bautch believes they were politically motivated and has been hospitalized for days to treat her injuries.
The incident took place outside the high-end French Quarter eatery Brennan's, where the Louisiana Republican Party was holding a fundraiser to coincide with the Southern Republican Leadership Conference happening in New Orleans that weekend. According to a bulletin put out by the New Orleans Police Department, the fight began around 10:45 p.m., when a group of three to five men made "derogatory comments" of an undisclosed nature to Bautsch about her boyfriend, Joe Brown. When Brown "turned toward" the men making the remarks, he was hit by at least one of them. The report notes that Bautsch "fell to the ground and screamed" and suffered a broken leg when she "attempted to break up the altercation."
In issuing the bulletin, the NOPD sought the public's help in tracking down one of the assailants, whom they described as a "dirty" looking male with long auburn-colored hair styled in a ponytail. And Brown suffered "a mild concussion, broken jaw and broken nose," according to the New Orleans Times Picayune. A bystander's photo showing police officers attending to Bautsch and Brown after the attack was posted to Bobby Jindal's Facebook page yesterday.
Though the nature of the attack has remained a bit of a mystery, some conservative blogs alleged that Bautsch and Brown might have been targeted because they were wearing lapel pins expressing support for Sarah Palin. The former Alaska governor gave an address at the Leadership Conference that same day — but a Jindal spokesperson has since denied that either Bautsch or Brown was wearing a Palin pin.
Yahoo! News spoke to a friend of Allee Bautsch who's been in communication with her since the attack. The friend, who declined to be named because the attackers are still at large, described the group who descended on Bautsch and Brown as "some weird Bobby Jindal protesters" there in opposition to the state's governor. The friend confirmed the earlier reports that Bautsch "got caught in the middle" of the altercation as she tried to break it up. Bautsch's friend also reported that she's in "loads of pain" with "rods in her leg and ankle," but that she was also "released yesterday from the hospital and is resting at her home in Baton Rouge."

Lacking an effective spokesperson, the GOP has put their faith in the reanimated corpse of Ronald Reagan. According to this video from The Onion, Zombie Reagan is a face that Republicans can trust. "When he moans at them, they're going to listen." As long as he hasn't eaten their ears yet.

Gov. Bobby Jindal fired a state worker one day after she publicly condemned his plans to privatize state services. He claimed she was terminated for poor performance in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, years ago.
Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington has launched an investigation into the incident.
Melody Teague criticized Jindal during a forum held by the Commission for Streamlining Government. Soon after, the contract grants reviewer was told she was fired for her handling of the state's disaster food stamps program four years ago, in the aftermath of Huricane Katrina.
According to The Advocate, Commission member Leonal Hardman believes that Teague was "unfairly targeted because she spoke out publicly at the streamlining forum."

In response to President Obama’s national address in February, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal pointedly went after stimulus funding for high-speed rail projects as “wasteful spending.” But in August, state officials began drafting plans to request $300 million in stimulus funds to develop a high-speed rail between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. An official in the state Department of Transportation and Development called the project “a very valuable economic incubator.” The plan had the backing of Louisiana legislators such as Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao (R), who was pressing Jindal to request the money. Jindal, however, let the midnight Friday deadline pass, allowing his right-wing ideology to win out:
Jindal aides have said the administration is not applying because of concerns about the project’s ongoing costs. They said the state would incur an annual $18 million bill to run the rail system once it became operational. [...]
But U.S. Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao, R-New Orleans, on Friday called on Jindal to apply for the money. Since all U.S. taxpayers will foot the bill for the stimulus spending, Cao said, the state’s elected officials should see that Louisiana gets its fair share. “It’s our duty to obtain as much as we can to rebuild this region,” Cao said at a news conference at his city’s train station.
He acknowledged “a real concern” about the state’s responsibility for paying the annual costs, but said the overall project would be “an $180 million win for the state of Louisiana.”
Earlier on Friday, Cao had still been optimistic that Jindal would file application for the funding, which was all ready to go. “We’re counting on his leadership in this goal to go beyond any party lines and do what’s right for Louisiana,” Cao said.In response to President Obama’s national address in February, Louisiana Gov.... more
