Mary Kellett - Nobody’s Talking…
March 13th, 2009
It’s interesting when I call up prosecutor’s who are misbehaving. Nobody is willing to step up and be accountable for their actions. It happened with Jennifer Weiler of Thurston County and the Jeremy Kanoa Hughes case, and now it’s happening again with Mary N. Kellet, Assistant District Attorney/Hitwoman for Maine’s 7th district court. She’s not talking. Period.
A new rape “trial” for the Vladek Filler family has been ordered due to her misconduct up in Ellsworth, Maine where as many as 4 men per month have been indicted on multiple counts of Rape, each carrying up to 30 years in prison. The details are disturbing, especially the conduct of Ms. Kellett within the courtroom itself.
So, I contacted Micheal Povich this afternoon to get the prosecution’s side of the story. He was a likable fellow who actually brought up many good points. One of his points was burden of proof. He asked me initially if I presumed that all rape charges were innocent? I wondered in return, if he thought all rape charges were presumed guilty? He asked me how I would decipher evidentiary accusatory material brought forth concerning rape. I simply answered him that accusations do not constitute rape. I left that statement not sure whether he was in agreement with me or not. But, he seemed to want to understandably justify his position. I was wondering if that justification was for the victims only or whether that also included the accused. Either way, I’d like to remind Mr. Povich that the system would be much more equitable if allegations of perjury were treated as equally as those of domestic violence.
Michael would not discuss this case, even though it was thrown out of court the first time that it was tried. It will be tried again, even though Ms. Kellett is trying at this moment to kill certain evidence against her “client” in the Maine Appelate courts. Why that is, is still a question to be answered. It has been my experience that those who hold public office and have something to hide, decline all offers. Mr. Povich, to his credit, did speak with me today.
So, I left Mr. Povich with one last telling question concerning accountablilty. I simply asked him if he would be willing to openly discuss this case once it has been settled. He neither declined, nor accepted, yet alluded to his answer to be in line of “slimy lawyers” as his excuse. I certainly hope that it is not an excuse. I equally hope that he will accept my offer as I will be following this case to its conclusion. At that point, I will again contact Mr. Povich and it should then be clear as to the motives of what kind of office he is running up there. One that will stonewall public answers or one that is accountable to their public.Mary Kellett - Nobody’s Talking…

"Nearly half of Boston-area teenagers say Rihanna was responsible for pop star Chris Brown's alleged Grammy night attack that landed her in the hospital, according to a new survey by the Boston Public Health Commission.
The survey of 200 Boston youths age 12 to 19 found that 51% said Brown bore responsibility, 46% said Rihanna was responsible, and 52% said both were to blame for the incident. In addition, 52% said the media were treating Brown unfairly, and "a significant number of males and females" surveyed said Rihanna was destroying Brown's career.
This is beyond disturbing. Somehow our children have learned that violence is an acceptable and appropriate response to a domestic disagreement. This is what children learn from media messages like this cover of broad-circulating supermarket tabloid Star, which purports to reveal "What made Chris snap". As if Rihanna could have said something to which the brutal attack of which Brown is accused was an understandable reaction. As if she stepped over the line and the vicious blows that bloodied her nose and mouth and swelled her eyes and forehead were justified."
I found some disturbing comments on Current in the same vein surrounding this story. I don't care about the celebrity gossip aspect of this; but how in the world is it that half of these teenagers would blame the victim? Do you?"Nearly half of Boston-area teenagers say Rihanna was responsible for pop star... more

Real Housewives' Kelly Bensimon Arrested for Punching Boyfriend

Kelly Bensimon is proving to be an exciting addition to The Real Housewives of New York City. Bensimon, 40, and a six-foot-tall former model and marathon runner, is facing misdemeanor assault charges after attacking her boyfriend Nick Stefanov.
"She was arrested on March 5 at 9:10 a.m. for punching her fiancé in the face, and [she] gave him a laceration under his left eye. She was arrested for assault – it's a misdemeanor," the New York City Police Department tells PEOPLE.
The reality star's lawyer, Stephen Turano, says Bensimon "has entered a plea of not guilty. We are confident that the charges are unfounded and we look forward to a quick resolution."
According to reports, Bensimon got into a physical confrontation with Stefanov, giving him a black eye and a gash on his left cheek. Stefanov fled the apartment after the altercation and went to the police precinct.
Though there are reports that the two are engaged, a source close to Bensimon says that's not the case. "[Stefanov] is claiming that they were engaged, which is delusional. They have been on-and-off for three to three-and-a-half years, and during that time they were never exclusive. She was always dating other people."
The friend adds that Bensimon is "upset and embarrassed" by the ordeal, and says that Stefanov has tried to reach out to Bensimon since the charges were filed.
Bensimon, who surrendered to police, has been charged with misdemeanor third-degree assault. She is due in court on March 31.Real Housewives' Kelly Bensimon Arrested for Punching Boyfriend

"Cowboys and Angels": Third annual free northern Michigan benefit concert to battle domestic violence and teen suicides on one of the the poorest American Indian reservations in the U.S.
(Munising, Michigan) - A free benefit concert to battle American Indian teen suicide and family violence will be held on December 13 in northern Michigan.
The non-profit Turtle Island Project (TIP) in Munising is organizing the third annual "Cowboys and Angels" concert to benefit the White Buffalo Calf Woman Society (WBCWS) in Mission, South Dakota – the first Native American domestic violence shelter in the world.
The WBCWS battles domestic violence, sexual assault and an alarming increase in teen suicides on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, the home of the Sicangu Lakota people.
Poverty, depression, a lack of jobs, drugs, alcohol and other social problems are among the reasons behind Rosebud suicides and family violence.
Performing on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Falling Rock Cafe and Bookstore at 104 East Munising Ave. in downtown Munising, Michigan will be Pastor Lynn Hubbard. The concert includes original songs written by Rev. Hubbard and traditional songs of the season.
The WBCWS was founded 30 years ago by a group of courageous Native American women including current executive director Tillie Black Bear.
"The White Buffalo Calf Woman's Society and its domestic violence shelter are vital to address social issues like teen suicide and domestic violence on the Rosebud reservation," said Dr. Hubbard, pastor of the Eden on the Bay Lutheran Church in Munising, MI. "Women and children are treated with dignity."
"The Rosebud Reservation has been described as a Third World Country in America's heartland," Hubbard said. "Social problems on the Rosebud can sometimes seem overwhelming but the answer starts with a person donating money or volunteering their time and praying for the people.”
The TIP has organized numerous free benefit concerts in the U.P. and SD for the WBCWS including two by Iron County-based folk groups, White Water and Duo Borealis.

REPORTED cases of domestic violence have increased in Scotland, with figures showing a rise of almost 14 per cent in four years, it was revealed yesterday.
The number has risen from a reported 43,632 in 2004-5, to 49,655 in 2007-8.
Those most at risk of domestic abuse are women aged 31 to 35. Most cases, 85 per cent, involve abuse of women by men.
Leading women's aid campaigner, Dr Mairead Tagg said the figures reflected an improvement in police response, the success of government campaigns and women being more aware of services on offer. However, she continued stating that the true tally of violence was unknown because many women suffered up to 30 incidents of domestic abuse before reporting the perpetrator.REPORTED cases of domestic violence have increased in Scotland, with figures showing a... more

In the spirit of the swedes, fins and others who crossed the ocean to settle the rugged wilderness we now call the Upper Peninsula, a northern Michigan attorney is challenging the political landscape along Lake Superior.
This is the first video of a two-part interview with Cathy Church, Independent candidate for Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney.
Church answers questions about her campaign including why she decided to run, why people should vote for her and her concerns about how domestic violence cases were handled by her opponent - a longtime incumbent.
Running as an Independent against the entrenched powers that be - no matter what party - can be a difficult but at the same time rewarding. Many Americans believe the two-party system sometimes serves it's politicos rather than the people. In the spirit of the swedes, fins and others who crossed the ocean to settle the... more

Well, I finally met Cathy Church - who is running as an independent candidate for Marquette County Prosecutor.
A friend of a friend asked me to post her stuff because running an Independent means you need all the goodwill and support you can get.
I have nothing against the two major political parties - but I respect the gusto of people who do it on their own - thus are not beholding to the powers that be.
Tho I tend to vote Democrat - I never vote a straight ticket - because I like to choose the best person in each race - Democrat, Republican, Independent or any of the more obscure parties.
Plus Cathy Church is tough on domestic violence and one of my many projects fights family abuse.
During 14 years as an assistant prosecutor, Church sent numerous domestic violence offenders to jail. I have covered way too many murders and MI and GA that were the result of domestic violence.
Tho the victims are - by far - mainly female - there are some male victims of domestic violence.
As a guest of the non-profit Turtle Island Project, Lakota domestic violence activist Tillie Black Bear was speaking in Marquette recently - and that's where I met a friend of a friend who knew Cathy.
It's kind of ironic how I finally met Cathy Church.
I was telling a fishing buddy that I was posting info about her Independent campaign for prosecutor - and as the words came out of my mouth - there was Cathy's campaign vehicle and her mother.
We turned around - met Cathy - and I ended up taping an interview with her on Halloween.
That two part interview will be posted next.
This video is Cathy's message to the people about why they should choose an Independent candidate for Marquette County Prosecutor - instead of a longtime and powerful incumbent.

President George W. Bush's apparent lack of understanding on tribal sovereignty is examined by Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard, executive director and co-founder of the non-profit Turtle Island Project in Munising, Michigan.
This video was made as Hubbard made two presentations on September 24, 2008 during the third annual UNITED Conference at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.
This video is about infamous comments about Native American Tribal Sovereignty made by President George W. Bush on August 6, 2004 at the UNITY conference in Washington D.C.
President Bush was asked the tribal sovereignty question by Mark Trahant, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer Editorial Page Editor, a member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe in Idaho and former president of the Native American Journalists Association.
Bush answered the question but that answer was so bizarre it caused journalists to laugh:
"Tribal sovereignty means that. It's sovereign," President Bush said. "You've been given sovereignty and you're viewed as a sovereign entity."
The conference involved about 7,500 journalists of color from the Native American Journalists Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Asian-American Journalists Association
Hubbard said it's funny, scary and sad that President George W. Bush doesn't understand the important issue of Native American tribal sovereignty.
The Turtle Island Project thanks Democracy Now for the use of their video of President Bush's remarks on tribal sovereignty.
