The United States is depressed!
Americans seem to agree that compared to our political landscape 8 years ago, this one is very different and much gloomier.
People are deeply unsettled about the United States? place in the world and its ability to control its own destiny.
Americans feel a loss of autonomy, in their own lives and in the nation. Their politics are driven by the powerlessness they feel to control their financial well-being, their safety, their environment, their health and the country?s borders. They question whether each generation will continue to ascend the economic ladder. That the political system seems so impotent only deepens their frustration and their insistence on results. The United States is depressed!

Speaking with Diane Sawyer, Hillary Clinton said she would take her campaign all the way through the primary process, though rumors have swirled that she might drop out if she doesn't do well in New Hampshire and after coming in third in Iowa. But according to the New York Times, if NH doesn't go well, some campaign shake-ups, in tone, tactics and staffing are all on the table.Speaking with Diane Sawyer, Hillary Clinton said she would take her campaign all the... more

Hi America, it's me Citizen Kate,
Dateline: Des Moines
I learned how hard it is to be an outsider trying to cover inside politics, especially when you run into the control nuts at NPR. I never ever had an experience like the one I had with cool outsider candidate Senator MIke Gravel.
I'm on a quest to find out about America's next great leader. I always say if you don't know, don't vote. So I've been interviewing the presidential candidates. Do I know anything about politics? No. Am I a reporter? Not really. Has that ever stopped me? Heck no! I'm "the people" and we deserve a voice.
Note to self: politics is a tough nut to crack!
Peace and Hugs

We spent a crazy day with people's presidential candidate Mike Gravel. It was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life. Apparently National "public" Radio isn't really about the public being able to spend a day with a candidate and find out what makes them tick. It's about keeping independent reporters out, even if they've got credentials!

Presidential candidate Barack Obama suggested Friday that he has more foreign policy experts from the Clinton administration backing him over Hillary Clinton. Well, the lists show that Hillary's is twice as long as Obama's (Hillary with 80 to Obama's 47).

Gene McCarthy proved that ordinary Americans could de-rail a war, President Johnson's Vietnam war policies.
In announcing that he would challenge President Johnson for renomination in 1968, Sen. McCarthy said, "I am concerned that this Administration seems to have set no limit to the price it is willing to pay for a military victory." McCarthy continued, "I am not for peace at any price...but for an honorable, rational and political solution" to this war.

Has the infamous Dean Scream scared all of our potential Presidential candidates into safe sound bites and stereotypical responses? Without this 'effect' gaining true media momentum, isn't the public secretly waiting for the next political candidate to fall on their face. Perhaps this is one of the biggest problems with the modern political machine as we monitor the mistakes versus illuminating the issues. It's kind of like celebrity news without all the make-up and jewelry.Has the infamous Dean Scream scared all of our potential Presidential candidates into... more

Asian Americans Likely Favor Obama, Could Affect Outcome of Presidential Election, Says Nat'l Survey
While many Asian American voters are supporting presidential candidate Barack Obama, (D-Ill.), a sizable amount remain undecided, indicating that they could play an important role in the outcome of the election, according to a new national survey released Oct. 6.
Researchers predict that the non-partisan vote, comprised of a number of Asian Americans, will likely come into play in next month's presidential election.
"A very large number of Asian Americans are non-partisan," UC Berkeley associate professor of political science Taeku Lee said in a statement. "The Asian American vote is very much up for grabs: Non-partisans who see either the Democratic or Republican party as closer to them on issues that matter to them are much likelier to vote for that party's candidate."Asian Americans Likely Favor Obama, Could Affect Outcome of Presidential Election,... more
