The Two-State To Nowhere: Another Futile Attempt At Appeasement
By Alex Grobman
Dr. Grobman is a Hebrew University trained historian. His is the author of a number of books including Nations United How The UN Undermines Israel and The West and a forthcoming book on Israel's moral and legal right to exist as a Jewish State.
“There is reason to believe that [the president] cherished the illusion that presumably he, and he alone, as head of the United States, could bring about a settlement –if not a reconciliation—between Arabs and Jews. I remember muttering to myself as I left the White House after hearing the President discourse in rambling fashion about Middle Eastern Affairs, ‘I‘ve read of men who .........Roosevelt wanted the Arabs to allow thousands of Jews from Europe to immigrate to... more

London, July 3, (Pal Telegraph) - Israel inflicted "wanton destruction" in the Gaza Strip during its 22-day war on the coastal enclave in December and January, Amnesty International, the London-based human rights group has said.
In a 117-page report released on Thursday, Amnesty cited evidence that Israeli troops put children and other civilians in harm's way "by forcing them to remain in or near houses which they took over and used as military positions". Accusing Israel of "breaching laws of war", Amnesty said: "Much of the destruction was wanton and deliberate, and was carried out in a manner and circumstances which indicated that it could not be justified on grounds of military necessity."London, July 3, (Pal Telegraph) - Israel inflicted "wanton destruction" in... more

If you decide to not run for President, you will be turning your back on the American people. How can you encourage us to rise up, to participate, and have our voices be heard only to blow us off after we have joined the dialogue? We have enthusiastically called for your candidacy with a hope that Ive never before seen in my lifetime. Yet for those of us who have poured our hearts and souls out to you, your only answer is
well, sorry. Whats up with that? Right now you look like just another politician ignoring the voices of America in favor of your own agenda. If you do not run, your influence and stature will decline even on global warming, especially with the American people. If you do not run, you will go down in history as just another typical politician who failed to lead at this critical juncture in time. You truly have the opportunity to change this country and this world, Mr. Gore, but if you dont run you will forfeit America to Hillary or Rudy or Mitt. Do you really believe that any of them will truly advance the cause of global warming? Reduce our dependence on oil? Get us out of Iraq? Actually secure health care for all Americans? Maybe we were wrong - maybe you dont have what it takes to really fight for this nation. Maybe you really do want to just keep the status quo. If you decide to not run for President, you will be turning your back on the American... more

Blackwater has bids in for up to $15,000,000,000 in anti-drug contracts. Blackwater. Does this trend frighten any one else as much as it does me? Especially when combined with certain legislation signed by Bush that makes it easier for him to declare martial law and deploy troops in our own country for use against civilians.Blackwater has bids in for up to $15,000,000,000 in anti-drug contracts. This is interesting because:
1) Imagine the draft Gore effort succeeds and his name is ont he CA primary ballot.
2) imagine he does not make a specific request to have his name removed from the ballot.
3) He wins or does very well in CA, along with NY, NJ
4) He enters the race, wins the nomination and the Presidency. This is interesting because:

The linked should be a testimony that Al Gore should run for office. He is a figure head for environmental issues but his name could carry more weight if he were president. Current President, Bush, can talk Europe into joining in his war campaign but Gore cannot persuade them not to use coal for fuel....even after they praised him and his studies on the environmental issues.
I hope he does take a stand for the people of America and serve his term in office so he can have absolute recognition. The linked should be a testimony that Al Gore should run for office. He is a figure... more

I have been thinking a lot lately about all of our efforts to try to convince you to run for President in 2008. In you book, "The Assualt On Reason", you write about people needed to come together, to make our voices heard, to take back our government so that it is, once again, a government for the people, by the people. In working with draftgore.com, netrootsforgore, gore2008, Americaforgore and all the other websites that are working to get you to run, aren't we doing exactly what you advised us to do in your book?
We are coming together and using our voices - with newspaper ads, tv ads, calls & letters to senators, letters, phone calls and emails to you, working on various campaigns (like the pennies we sent), showing up where you are speaking to hand out "Gore 2008" buttons, gathering signatures - letting our opinions be known on hundreds of websites, here at current.com, on youtube and everywhere we can think of. We all have one common theme - to ask, beg, plea and, sometimes, even demand that you run.
In Time magazine May 16th, 2007, you stated that, "I am under no illusions that any position has as much ability to influence change as the presidency does. If the President made climate change the organizing principle, the filter through which everything else had to flow, then that could really make a huge difference." If you really believe that, why aren't you running? You have trained many others to carry on the climate crisis fight. Shouldn't you help all you can by being our president and helping us lead the world in this fight?
On July 7th you stood before millions of us, asking us to "answer the call" for our planet and we responded by signing the pledge and changing the way we live our lives, working to become carbon neutral - answering your call.
Now, Mr. Gore, isn't it time YOU answered our call?I have been thinking a lot lately about all of our efforts to try to convince you to... more

I have spent so much time these past few weeks reading the Gore petition and all the posts about him here at Current. I have wondered why many of us do not simply choose another candidate and move on. What strikes me is that so many of us feel cheated by the 2000 election and by the resulting chaos that has followed. Many other candidates offer a change that may well lead us back to a better place. Still it is difficult to let go of the idea of a possible Gore run.
Perhaps this is because we feel a need for a complete turnaround...back to the time before the events of the last seven years so radically changed the world's view of America and in fact our own view of ourselves. When something is "stolen" you want it back. You don't want something close to it. You want the original.
We have all grown since then, a bit harder and more cynical. What I think we want is to shed that thicker skin, to feel refreshed, renewed, reinvigorated. We want to regain that former part of ourselves and our nation as we knew it. That is why Al Gore is so important to us. And those who follow his career know that he has grown as well and still seems to embody the hope that many of us have lost. Your silence is difficult Mr. Gore and while you owe us nothing, I ask you to think of those who supported you then and believe in you still. It is difficult to let go and though you may be a recovering politician, we cannot shed our citizenship. I wish that you would join this discourse if only to give us some advise. Politicians are what we have. Our votes and our voices hold our place in this democracy. We look to you for the strength and courage to move forward.

Follows the progress of a campaign in Western Massachusetts to place Al Gore on the ballot for the Democratic Party primary. This is an interesting effort, thoroughly grass-roots, being undertaken by some 230 similar groups around the country. With Gore having just won the Nobel Peace Prize, an Oscar earlier in the year, huge international recognition and unencumbered by the negatives attached to the front-runners in the Democratic field, Gore supporters think he represents the best chance for the Democratic Party to capture the White House in 2008.Follows the progress of a campaign in Western Massachusetts to place Al Gore on the... more
