"Bamboo in bikes isn't a radically new concept (see below for our previous posts), but what is striking in this instance that a company would establish itself around a line of green bicycles crafted from bamboo and recycled aluminium alloy. With a swath of matching eco bike accessories to match."
They also talk about a water bottle made of plastic that is biodegradable only when it comes into contact with microbiological environment such as a compost heap.
I have to research more on that.

“Hark! It is September. Does this mean the leaves are starting to change and it's going to get chilly? Where did Summer go? I still have white, strapless dresses that have tags still attached and sandals that don't even have scuff marks on their bottoms. Well, thank goodness I live in Los Angeles, but for most of the world this means the changing of the closet! Unwrapping those cashmere sweaters, buying new wooden cedar hanger inserts, and starting to say good-bye to the romper trend. (For some of you that's a "thank-god." Though, owning a cute silk butterscotch Marc Jacobs one myself, I loved it!). So, to debut our Fall look I decided on the lovely Celine which is oh so French, and oh so divine, that you can't help but look sophisticated in its luxurious fabrics and its "I didn't try too hard" look. I know when the seasons start to change I wanna be cozy. I hate being unprepared for the weather outside and being itchy with bad wool or sweaty by being swamped by too much fabric. I like light layers that keep me warm. The Fall is great for layering lightly while experimenting with fabrics that will mesh with your lifestyle.
The outfit I've chosen………………..

Hey, Hey, Hey! It’s “Fashion Friday’s!” from www.oneof365.com” This magazine editor has a fun and eclectic wardrobe that she wants to share with you. You get to look at what she’s chosen from her closet this week (fun finds from London, vintage, markets from the globe, designers…) and hear a little history about the brands, how she came about finding the item and a fun tale or two about how she’s gotten her neat duds. A lot of fun because of the reader interaction and the humorous writing. She is a fun read and her blog is so eclectic, she always is coming up with something new (though “Fashion Fridays!” is a weekly staple).
This week is all about being a class act but doing it chicly! The look is really classic with fine details. You could wear this to a tea, a girly event, but you’d stand out for having a great cut, or fine detailing. There is an Elizabeth & James jacket to die for and a Nicole Farhi skirt that looks like a painting. Really stunning pieces.
Enjoy! Great pictures, very humorous and captions too!
Blogger has an amazingly eclectic site with everything from beauty, fashion, diary style entries, poetry, life in the magazine world----this girl has everything. Already winner of the prestigious “Blog Of The Day Award” (some people take years to earn this—she’s only had her blog up 6 weeks!) and on top level blog rolls of awesome bloggers, this girl is amazing. Every Monday is the “Wish List,” a blog entry dedicated to one online shopping site where a dream outfit is compiled editorial style from the site. The blogger is a magazine editor so the page is like her dream editorial spread as if she had complete creative rights without any Editor cutting her off! She gives you a great history about the brand, a little story about the look she compiled and then picks the outfit based on the theme of the spread adding captions explaining each item she’s chosen. Really fun and unique. This week it’s the cutting edge store Opening Ceremony and she has chosen really unique designers that are up and coming and really in-the-know in the fashion world (except for a pair of Hussein Chalayan heels---killer—seriously, killer). The look is how to get upgraded to First Class when you fly, so you’ll definitely want to check this outfit out---who want’s to fly coach with a bunch of screaming kids when you could be sipping champagne with a big cozy leather chair up-front pimp style!
Really fun fashion page that shows off trends in a really eclectic way. Shopping is really fun when you don’t have to actually spend any money, right? This magazine editor has a bit of fun and does the online shopping for you as if she were going to the soiree herself, but sadly, can’t buy the pieces. But, maybe YOU can! Last week she rocked http://www.oneof365.com/category/qvc/ (and it was amazing if you can believe it!) and this week it’s Frenchconnection.com. The look is “artdeco/boho chic” and she’s picked out a glam look that’s sleek and sweet—perfect for night to day transition. She gives you a great excellent styling tips, and puts together an amazing outfit you can buy online right now. She has zero affiliation with any of the sites she “shops” from so this isn’t her hocking the goods, it’s just her having a bit of fun as a magazine editor.

Ok, that was a stupid question. I'm guessing most of you don't have an extra £1,000 to throw at some treated cotton trousers. But that got me thinking, what the hell is so special that these jeans deserve such a high price tag? Are they lined with gold? Do they come with a wad of cash in the pocket so you can purchase things to wear with them? Do they wash themselves? I'm guessing not. So maybe it's that they're designed so incredibly that they make any ass look amazing. I kinda want to go down to Fulham and try on some to see if they're worthy of a few week's wages. But, I bet you £1,000 they only fit model bodies.Ok, that was a stupid question. I'm guessing most of you don't have an extra... more

BATHINDA: A day after heavy fog disrupted life and stranded air, rail and road passengers in the region, agitating farmers held up six trains when they lay siege to railway tracks here on Tuesday. Hundreds of agitating farmer organization members blocked all the four main rail routes in the region to lodge their protest against the "anti-farmer attitude" of Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) authorities.
The farmers, owing allegiance to various farmer organisations, had earlier given a call for 72-hour CCI office siege beginning Monday. However, when the stir failed to bring in expected results, the farmers converged on the tracks late on Tuesday afternoon and blocked all traffic movement on Ambala, Suratgarh, Delhi and Sirsa routes.
"We have been forced to resort to this (agitation) since the authorities continue to remain in a deep slumber despite our over 30-hour sit-in outside the CCI office in this biting cold," Sukhdev Singh Kokari Kalan, general secretary of BKU Ekta (Ugrahan), told TOI.BATHINDA: A day after heavy fog disrupted life and stranded air, rail and road... more

BioSolar surprised attendees at the SPIE Symposium on Solar Applications and Energy in San Diego by revealing that materials derived from cotton and castor beans compose the company's proprietary BioBacksheet, a protective covering, traditionally made from expensive petroleum-based film, used in the back of virtually all photovoltaic solar cells.
"Until now, this information has remained highly-guarded over the past 18 months as BioSolar established academic and industry credibility," said BioSolar Chairman and CEO, Dr. David Lee. "Now that our technology is strongly protected both domestically and abroad, we are able to share this exciting news with the public."
While not revealing core proprietary or patent-pending elements of the intellectual property, BioSolar's Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Stan Levy, divulged in his presentation that the bio-based components are a composite of cellulosic material derived from cotton, combined with an arcane nylon (nylon 11) derived from castor beans.
Dr. Levy detailed the procedures and results of the company's 18-month product development effort to engineer the BioBacksheet from non-food, plant-based materials. He provided an in-depth look at the science and applied technology behind the unique bio-sustainable formulation and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes used to create the company's BioBacksheet product.
The two sustainably sourced components are combined utilizing the company's proprietary manufacturing process.
"We have demonstrated that functional photovoltaic backsheets can be produced from renewable resources," said Dr. Levy.
"We believe that the BioBacksheet is a viable alternative to backsheets currently in use. Not only is this product produced from sustainable and renewable resources, but is expected to be more cost effective than the current backsheets."

Often child labour is thought to happen in isolation in a few developing countries such as India, but an investigation conducted by The Observer newspaper has found that children as young as seven, are working on Nile Valley plantations, to supply cotton to the UK. Egyptian cotton has become synonymous with the luxury textiles industry throughout the western world and in Britain alone, the cotton industry is worth billions, but to what extent is this success down to the extreme use of child labour?Often child labour is thought to happen in isolation in a few developing countries... more

"While their "no sweatshop" line and their dedication to the social benefits of manufacturing in one of the most expensive states in the Union is a nice marketing piece, it is also very expensive. Expect it to get more so if immigration officials continue to sniff around.
"In one ad, a woman spreads her legs for the camera in company stockings and underwear on a white bed -- Mr. Charney's bed. Mr. Charney found himself at the center of four lawsuits from former employees, all alleging sexual harassment. One was dismissed and two others were settled out of court."
"Then of course there is the fact that Charney holds a majority of common. Ousting him outright is unlikely to be particularly effective (he looks like a scorched earth kind of CEO to me). But the company doesn't need him removed, just the addition of some adult supervision and a better balance sheet. Not enough to stifle it, but to keep matters at least mostly in hand. After all, breaking covenants is very, very naughty- and its not the kind of rebellion that sells hot pants."

The Film
At a moment when India is enjoying record economic growth, THE DYING FIELDS turns to Vidarbha's four million cotton farmers who have been left behind, struggling to survive on less than two dollars a day. WIDE ANGLE cameras follow Kishor Tiwari, former businessman turned farmer advocate, whose tiny office in the heart of this cotton-growing region functions as the archive and watchdog for the suicide epidemic; traveling salesmen hawking genetically modified - and costly - cotton seeds that require irrigation that few Vidarbha farmers have; the last rites of a farmer who couldn't pay his debts; a tour of the poison ward at the local hospital, where beds are always filled; and a visit by then-president of India, A.J.P. Abdul Kalam, whom the farming widows beseech for help in convincing the government to forgive their debts. The Film
