AKA vermiculture or vermicomposting: this is all about using worms to eat up your food scraps and then using their poop to feed your gardens. I first learned about it from my obsessively compulsively neat and orderly friend Sasha, who kept a worm bin in his pantry. It seemed easy enough, until I started it myself in my backyard. My roommates have one word for my version: gross.
I caught up with Katherine Rolinson who is a certified master composter, who showed me how to clean up my gross technique.

This fascinating and empowering film shows how communities pulled together, created solutions, and ultimately thrived in spite of their decreased dependence on imported energy.
