Top 10 Comic Book Gods Worth Worshipping | Ranker - A World of Lists
Of all the super heroes based on mythological gods, it is the Mighty Thor who is the longest running and most popular.
# 1 ! ) ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY THOR!
Created by Stan Lee in 1962, Thor was created simply because Lee was running out of ideas for giving normal humans super powers. There are only so many radioactive spiders and gamma bombs after all. So why not just make his new hero an actual God?
Instead of going for the more well known Greco/Roman myths, Stan and artist Jack Kirby opted for the lesser known Norse Viking mythology, and the whole thing worked like gangbusters. For some reason, Stan gave the Norse Gods the affectation of speaking in Shakespearean dialect, which made zero logical sense, and yet everybody rolled with it.
Although a contemporary of Spider-Man, The Hulk, and the X-Men, Thor never really achieved their mainstream success, although that is due to a change next year when Marvel Studios releases their Thor movie.
Hopefully by this time next year, little kids across America will be yielding plastic versions of Mjolnir, Thor's enchanted hammer, and speaking in 'thees" and "thous". We can only hope that our favorite God has the kind of success he deserves.

As if the fictional worlds from comic books and sci-fi flicks weren’t already on most geek’s destination wish lists, Justin Van Genderen’s new travel posters show off pulp cities like Gotham and Metropolis.
“If superheroes really existed in this world we might see a poster like these in some old travel agency, all tattered hanging on the wall,” Van Genderen said in an e-mail interview with Wired.com
The homes of Batman, Superman and the rest all get the retro-pop treatment in Van Genderen’s five new images, which were inspired by minimalist propaganda posters and old Art Deco travel prints. The style has become a trademark of the Chicago freelance artist.
Check out the gallery for more comic book and Star Wars posters by Van Genderen. Visit Van Genderen’s website to see other work or buy a print.

At the weekend we brought you some promo footage of Green Lantern from the US show Entertainment Tonight – now the trailer that those clips came from is available online.
The trailer seems rushed, and in a rush, insecure and uncertain. Blake Lively, who scored rave reviews in The Town and is being considered Batman 3, is all over the place. Reynolds doesn’t seem sure whether he’s doing a comedy or not…

Wow, we did not think that the new superhero comedy Super was going to be this violent. Boy were we wrong. Very, very, very wrong. Watch as Rainn Wilson unleashes his superhero hammer right into someone's skull.
The Scream Awards showed this especially violent clip of Rainn Wilson, who later becomes The Crimson Bolt, getting pissed off and not willing to take it anymore. Lordy, we're much more interested in Super now, which also stars Ellen Page, Nathan Fillion, Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon. But alas, we're still waiting on a release date. Check out the clip.
