Alice in Chains were one of the greatest bands of Grunge, the musical movement started in Seattle of the 90s that led to worldwide notoriety not only them but also to Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Alice in Chains, 14 years after the last studio album, return with Black Gives Way to Blue. The long pause is explained in part by the death of singer Layne Staley in 2002, one of the souls of the band.Alice in Chains were one of the greatest bands of Grunge, the musical movement started... more

Art video of a painting I did on an old video arcade glass panel from the 80's. I obtained this because of the great artwork on the borders. I knew it would be a challenge to preserve the work from further deterioration and to create a painting to go with it. Original art was done by Watson and looks like a silk screen process. My original work is a state of the art reversed painting process.

"Barack Obama's inauguration marks a profound manifestation of the Rev. Martin Luther King's dream, civil rights leaders say, but the movement would be foolish to drop its guard now.
King did not fight tirelessly and ultimately give his life so African-Americans could take office; he fought for the disenfranchised and downtrodden, no matter their color, said Charles Steele, president and CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which King and Steele's father helped found.
"President-elect Barack Obama is just a piece of the puzzle," he said. "This tells us that we are at a station, but it's not our destination. We've got to get back on the train."
Steele said he worries that those who espouse King's dream may grow lackadaisical because an African-American has taken the reins of the free world. But it is imperative, he said, that they "march now more than ever before."
This article is specifically about the Black civil rights movement, but let's not forget about the other movements out there that should also be inspired by Obama's ability to change the face of the nation! If you stand for something, stand proud and get your message out there! Obama represents great things, but we're not done yet!"Barack Obama's inauguration marks a profound manifestation of the Rev. Harper's got his Herbert Hoover on, the Canadians better boot him out, or they'll be hitting the bottom sooner than they think.
Canada got there the same way the US, and other countries got there: Media manipulation, lies and deceit. Right wing extremists know they can't win on the merits of their policies, because the policies have no merit for the average people. They serve only the rich and can only win elections by cheating or convincing the public through media manipulation that the "conservatives" make policies in the interest of common folk. Ha...
I've been tired of the holiday season since Halloween. What's with trampling people to death, store clerks screaming at shoppers, and waking up at the crack of dawn for "deals"?
Luckily there's a light at the end of the tunnel and that is buying handmade goods. In fact, there's a pledge out there to support smart shopping. I think we need a revolution. A handmade revolution!
Go check out the blog where you can sign up to take the pledge, and see links to some pretty nifty Etsy shops!

The United States National Health Insurance Act, H.R. 676
Introduced by Rep. John Conyers.
Read the full bill.
Read an annotated version of the bill.
Brief Summary of the Legislation
The United States National Health Insurance Act establishes a unique American national universal health insurance program. The bill would create a publicly financed, privately delivered healthcare system that uses the already existing Medicare program by expanding and improving it to all U.S. residents, and all residents living in U.S. territories. The goal of the legislation is to ensure that all Americans will have access, guaranteed by law, to the highest quality and most cost effective healthcare services regardless of their employment, income, or healthcare status. With over 45-75 million uninsured Americans, and another 50 million who are under- insured, the time has come to change our inefficient and costly fragmented non-healthcare system.HR 676 : Healthcare-NOW!

The only way to take the greed and waste out of the health care system is to adopt universal single payer health care. Choose your doctor, but take the insurance companies out of the picture. They have made enough profit to last a long-life time.

Big steaming heapin' helpings of liberal-bashing are likely to be featured prominently on the menu next to the mashed potatoes, as they put fresh vigor into every paranoid anti-liberal fantasy ever spouted by Rush, Reverend Pat, or their new darling, Sarah Palin.

Oh, Lordy. It is that time again. Thursday is Thanksgiving— the official kickoff event of the 2008 holiday season. For a lot of progressives, these festivities also mean that we're about to spend more quality time with our conservative relatives over the next six weeks than is strictly good for our blood pressure, stress levels, or continued sanity.
Personally, I'm not a wholehearted fan of turkey—probably because the mere smell of it instantly slams me back into memories of several decades of Thanksgiving dinner arguments with conservative kin that took a turn for the ugly. We all know we're supposed to stick to "safe" topics like the kids, college football, and the weather; and avoid controversial issues like religion, politics and whether oysters belong in a proper bird stuffing. But the afternoon is long, and after the approved topics have been exhausted and that third bottle of Cabernet vanishes and the tryptophan torpor hits, decorum and discipline are at high risk of going all to hell. After that, things can and do get contentious, usually in ways that make everyone wish we could all just go back to fighting over oysters in the stuffing.
These family gatherings were hard enough to stomach through the appalling years of the Bush Adoration—but this year, it's likely to be even worse.Big steaming heapin' helpings of liberal-bashing are likely to be featured prominently... more
The United States is in a momentous period of challenge and opportunity. Our economy is in the worst crisis since the Great Depression, climate change is moving faster than predicted, and actions taken—or not taken—will shape the future for generations.
There is no question public policy changes are coming. The question is will policies change enough to meet the challenges we face today and leave a strong foundation for the future?
Opposition from traditional business groups claiming to know what’s best for our economy and nation has repeatedly obstructed needed policy changes. Policies that are actually better for our economy are misrepresented as “bad for business,” and especially “bad for small business,” undermining public support and government action.
Policymakers are already under pressure to think smaller on new energy, healthcare, infrastructure and other initiatives because they will “hurt business” and “we can’t afford them.” We contend instead that we can’t afford not to make long-overdue investments and bold policy changes. The United States is in a momentous period of challenge and opportunity.
