History is made as Obama crossed the critical delegate mark and claimed his title as the first African American nominee for President of the United States. Rival candidate Hillary Clinton has yet to officially concede, saying she'll make no decisions tonight.
All this as polls were still closing in South Dakota and Montana, and in Louisiana John McCain began challenging his new rival candidate, questioning whether or not Obama's candidacy is really "change we can believe in."
(For the record, Obama scored a victory in Montana while Hillary won South Dakota).

Let me be frank for a moment. Being a democrat in Indiana and at times being a voter in Indiana at all has seemed a moot point for Hoosiers. Campaigns don't stop here. Analysts call Indiana red early in the day and move on. Or so conventional wisdom holds, but this year things have been quite different. The candidates and family members have made more than seventy Indiana campaign stops and nearly five percent of the state more than 200,000 people registered to vote on the democratic side alone this year bolstering gains made in the last seven years by the party in Indiana which has only voted democrat three times in a century and twice voted against Woodrow Wilson despite the fact that his Vice President was from Indiana.
In adition to working here at Current I juggled two other part time jobs as you can find in my profile. One at an Imax theatre and the other at a nearby park in Indianapolis. Put yourself in my shoes for a moment. It was only my third day back on the job in the park at the Garfield Park Arts Center, I was running a few minuites late because of traffic and I wanted my boss to know I had gotten in, the first words I hear when I get to her office are from two campaign staffers "Senator Obama will be ariving in the park....." I was understandably taken aback. The Senator had chosen the Arts Center and the Park as the place for an exclusive interview with the today show as well as a town hall meeting and a series of small radio and print interviews. The stop was a secret and one we were asked to keep, my boss wasn't even able to tell her daughter and I kept my exceptionaly large mouth shut about the stop as well which is hard working for a news network, but when you have someone hold out thier hand and say "Hi, I'm with the Secret Service, we need to do a security sweep." it makes one heck of a lasting impression on you.
Afterwards Barack and Michelle took the time to speak with us breifly and snapped some photos. He even had time to sign a few books for us while we gave him a piece of artwork from our after shcool childrens art program. That's me at the back to the right of the Senator and Michelle. It was quite a surreal experience to say the least.
To make things even more complicated this week when I sat down to watch the interviews there was a "Hillary for president sticker on my door and a "Hillary the Smart Choice" sign inside my house. My grandmother had been front and center at a rally with Bill Clinton in Indianapolis and my cousin, her nephew who is a local union leader gave them to her after the rally and tonight she and the Arts Center both made it onto the television. I was stunned, it was pure punditry, a Grandma at a Hillary rally and a Grandson working at an Obama campaign stop. It was as if every political article on current were jumping from my screen and into my living room today and its an experience that is very strange for Hoosiers who though often well versed in politics are very used to watching politics from a distance. In the Hoosier state Basketball is akin to a religion. I went to Martinsvile High School, and for a brief time Manual High School. Martinsville was the home of John Wooden the legendary UCLA coach and Purdue player, and at Manual the home of the Van Arsdale twins who spent a collective 32 years in the NBA. Every school has some type of hardcourt legend and now Obama himself has given the legendary hall of fame, which was converted from the largest high school backetball court ever contructed , a new artifact to add to its extensive collection . He came with George McGinnes in tow and gave several signed basketbals to the collection, one for each member of staff and one extra to put on display. "You only have to include them if I win," he quipped. No polititian in recent history has been able to boast a high school basketbal career and thats something that is hard to not be seen as endearing to Hoosier voters.In the Hoosier state Basketball is akin to a religion. Lately, the word momentum has been used and repeated by political pundits, commentators and bloggers so often that you think it is some kind of magical force. On the contrary, momentum defied all conventional wisdom in this election cycle and is proving to be a curse.
After winning the Iowa caucuses, Obama was riding high on the wave of momentum going into New Hampshire with polls showing double digit leads. He lost by 3%. With two consecutive primary wins (three if you count MI), the Clinton campaign thought momentum would bring her to a close second place in South Carolina despite trailing in the polls. Obama defeated Clinton as expected, far from close, but by a shocking 28%. Coupled with the Kennedy endorsements, mainstream media claimed momentum was blowing Obama’s way. However, in the renegade Florida primary Tuesday night, momentum again stubbornly failed to come through. Clinton beat Obama by 17% and won almost every demographic group in the exit polls. (Think what you may of Florida’s primary, it is hard to discount the 1.5 million Democratic voters.)
Given its track record, I am not sure I want momentum on my side. Perhaps it is trying to prove a point – no candidate is entitled or has exclusive rights to it. To the candidates, may momentum, umm..not be with you.Lately, the word momentum has been used and repeated by political pundits,... more

Stephen Colbert's presidential campaign is apparently no joke.
The host of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" will file papers late Wednesday or early Thursday to put his name on South Carolina's Democratic primary ballot
The South Carolina native will not file papers as a Republican because the $35,000 required to get on the GOP ballot is apparently too high a threshold.
"They priced us out of range," a source told CNN.
The South Carolina Democratic Party only demands that a candidate pay $2,500 or garner 3,000 signatures to get on the ballot. Stephen Colbert's presidential campaign is apparently no joke.

Follows the progress of a campaign in Western Massachusetts to place Al Gore on the ballot for the Democratic Party primary. This is an interesting effort, thoroughly grass-roots, being undertaken by some 230 similar groups around the country.
