Ever wanted to jump out of a plane without a parachute? No? Well this guy does. Rollover in your grave evil knievel, Jeb Corliss has come to town. A modern day Wild-E-Coyote, Corliss wants to be the first person to land without a parachute from a distance of ten thousand feet. Some would say he's a bit crazy. Okay almost everyone would say he's out of his mind. With his custom made air suit which creates lift by turning vertical acceleration into horizontal movement, Corliss hopes to keep "practicing", that is risk his life dozens of times by jumping with a parachute attached, until someone will fund his "runway" which resembles a skijump landing. Scared that your teenager might rack up a few hundred dollars texting their friends? Well don't worry the bill could be much bigger. To this Canadian, it came to 85000 dollars! How? Well somehow this phone was equipped with a connection to his computer that allowed him to download large files straight from his phone to his computer, hogging bandwidth like a fat kid likes cake! The Canadian claims he was not aware of the charge per kilobyte that the phone company charges. The "friendly" phone company decided to reduce his bill to 3,253. A measly sum! Honestly, lets have some common sense when it comes to a phone: just call people, nothing more, it works some much better. In a nation where political correctness has become moral law, one citizen seems to defy the status quo. Yes, the prolific radio show host,Don Imus, is clawing his way back to the air ways after eight months of complete, and enjoyable, silence. Some call him a character, others want to crucify him for his comments, and Rev. Al Sharpton probably wants his body to burn in the proverbial hell. After his mistake in calling the Rutgers Black B-ball Team "nappy-headed hos", Imus has been relatively quiet. But on Monday, he'll resume his radical commentary and god knows what will happen. But honestly, how can american media allow this to happen? In radio or television second chances almost never happen and especially not when racist comments are involved. So how can this man remain on air? Well as with anything, it comes down to the money. Imus is getting paid a large sum of money to come back and the radio station that is sponsoring him will make more money through advertising. Cmon guys wouldn't you rather listen to some music? But some analysts are skeptical about this design. They believe that consumers will become lazy with their driving habits and rely on the car to protect them. Ever wanted that smooth talking voice in the subway to have some ounce of personality? Instead of "please exit to your right" why not "okay dude its time to get off, stop staring at the blonde with the low cut. " Well Emma Clarke seemed to think it was a good idea. As a bit of fun she created some recordings that had a bit more spunk than her boss would of approved of. "Here we are crammed again into a sweaty Tube carriage ... If you're female smile at the bloke next to you and make his day. He's probably not had sex for months." Unfortunately for Clarke, her boss did take notice of the seemingly harmless quips and fired her. She had been with the company for eight years. But truly wouldn't it be more fun if the subway voice over was live? I can see the headlines: Performing today on the redline is hotspice, come and ride the subway for some prime time entertainment! But really, for Clarke this is somewhat of a injustice. Obviously, someone who has done the same recordings over and over isn't going to put those humorous ones on the actual subways. Remember those plastic wheels and rods that could create any shape you wanted? Well imagine life-size creatures of the same thing. Theo Jansen is the creator of these creatures, who roam a local beech near his home. Using a simple rule of variation and selection Theo chooses various lengths for the legs of his creatures and selects the correct lengths to create a fluid movement much like our own leg movements. Using this theory he has created a fleet of animals with precise movement patterns which evolve over time. Some of his animals even have wings! His creations also include wooden and metal versions. Even these variations can be controlled the same way as the plastic ones by pushing or pulling them in the center. He has even created mucles using tubes of air as a type of hydraulic power. Apparently, the more you think about a decision the worse off you become in choosing the correct path. Choosing a college? With this approach it might be easier than you think. According to one scientist, using moral algebra to make decisions (listing the pro's and con's of a situation) is actually not the best way to find the best course of action. This article confirms through actual testing that decisions made when considering a singular positive attribute are much better than ones that look at the decision with a greater number of categories. Throughout a multitude of clinical studies done with parents, often the parents concerened themselves with one singular aspect about a situation than all four. Even when evaluating a college, 18 pieces of data were less effective than one piece in evaluating the best college choice. Just wishful thinking? think again. This theory was put to the test with high powered computers that perfored a type of moral algebra on thousands of colleges nationwide. Two computers were used,one that considered all attributes, and another that considered one important characteristic.
Yep you guessed it. The computer that considered a single attribute picked higher ranked colleges. So the next time you need to decide between ham or peanut butter and jelly, just use your gut, I'm sure it knows what the best option is. Well this journalist can tell you how. Hasan Elahi broadcasts his life by making a picture photo album of each action he takes. His life is filled with traveling so he has created a portfolio of all the airports, bathrooms, and plane food he has ever eaten. Each photo is timestamped allowing anyone to explore his life one step at a time. Why would Hasan do this? Well during one security check at an airport, Hasan was detained by the FBI. To Make a LONG story short, Hasan had been suspected of terrorist actions. Why? His previous landlord suspected that he had stored munitions in the storage locker of his apartment. Of course, Hasan had no such materials in his locker. But this experience led him to attach a gps bracelet to his ankle to let the FBI know exactly where he was at any point in time. But Hasan did not stop there. A few days after the confrontation with the FBI he called them to make sure they knew where he was. Expect to do well in school. by collecting a broad range of data these scientists have catalogued everyone from lawyers to baseball players. Over a broad spectrum it seems that names really do make a difference in how you will do in life. In any one case however, it was not a good indicator of how likely a person was to succeed. Yes, political correctness has gone so far as to say that the common greeting of Santa is now out of the picture. Apparently we are dumber than a five year old because we think that five-year olds can recognize a social slur. Oh great, next they'll be changing the name for a real hoe to ground grabber.
