Ayad Allawi, the American-appointed, one-time prime minister of Iraq, said Saturday the Bush administration's policies in the country have been an "utter failure."
In a wide-ranging interview with Arab newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, Allawi offered harsh criticisms of George W. Bush's handling of the nation's sectarian violence, and of the sitting Iraqi administration.
"Yes, Bush's policies failed utterly," said Allawi. "Utter failure. Failure of U.S. domestic and foreign policy, including fighting terrorism and economic policy."
"His insistence on names like 'democracy' and 'open elections,' without giving attention to political stability, was a big mistake," he added. "It cast shadows on Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Egypt, and I believe this will be remembered in history as President Bush's policy.
"Ending Saddam's regime was essential, but replacing the Saddam regime with extreme chaos was not right," he said. "I did not imagine the political process would eat itself from inside or that it would abandon the rule of law and establish political sectarianism."
.........of course, maybe he should have thought of that before he helped create the chaos...
Allawi is said to be the the source of substancial press coverage of an alleged link between the 9/11 attacks and Saddam's government. A forged letter containing the allegation, which a CIA official admitted was ordered by a note written on White House stationary, was allegedly produced at the request of Vice President Cheney.Ayad Allawi, the American-appointed, one-time prime minister of Iraq, said Saturday... more

What does Nixon's willingness to sabotage the Vietnam peace talks tell us about today's world? Part 2
In the last months of his administration, President Lyndon Johnson voiced worry over the Vietnam peace talks and stridently suggested that associates of Richard Nixon were attempting to keep South Vietnam away from the table until after the 1968 election, recordings of telephone conversations released Thursday show. "This is treason," Johnson said, referring to people close to Nixon, during a conversation with Senate Republican leader Everett Dirksen. The Democratic president never accused the Republican who would succeed him of treason, but said, "If Nixon keeps the South Vietnamese away from the (peace) conference table, that's going to be his responsibility."

President George W. Bush's Labor Department misled Congress in an effort to prove outsourcing jobs to private companies was more efficient than assigning the jobs to government employees, according to a Government Accountability Office report released Monday.
The report (pdf here) found that the Department used fictional projected numbers to improve "savings reports" -- even when real numbers were already available. And when the government did find private firms to take a government job, that employee generally was either reassigned to another task with the same title or promoted.President George W. Senator Warner Responds to Concern Over Posse Comitatus Violation by Proposing to Change the Law
A citizen of Virginia named Moya Atkinson wrote to Senator John Warner to express concern over the recent violation of the Posse Comitatus Act created by the assigning of U.S. soldiers to duty within the United States, reported by the Army Times as intended for "crowd control" among other duties. This, like other changes imposed by President Bush, of course violates the Posse Comitatus Act. It also served to strengthen the threats of martial law that Congressman Brad Sherman reported the White House making to Congress members in order to win their support for the $780 billion give-away to Wall Street.
Warner sent back the following note, proposing that, rather than changing the president's behavior to comply with the law, we should -- as with warrantless spying, habeas corpus, etc. -- change the law to comply with the president's behavior:
Thank you for contacting me regarding your opposition to Northern Command dedicating a combat infantry team to work within the United States. I appreciate your thoughtful inquiry on this important matter.
As you may know, the Northern Command has assigned the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry to deal with catastrophes in the United States. While the unit would not take over as the lead, the Army reports that this unit would be deployed to help local, state, or federal agencies deal with matters such as chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosive (CBRNE) incidents. The unit will be based in Fort Stewart, Georgia, and will focus primarily on logistics and support for local police and rescue personnel.
Looking back, the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts highlighted the important role our military plays during domestic crises. From providing security in destroyed neighborhoods, to treating patients aboard naval vessels, to rebuilding damaged levees and unwatering New Orleans, the military has performed vital work that no other federal or state entity has the capacity to undertake.
Not withstanding these tremendous achievements, I am deeply concerned that the Department of Defense and the President may not have authority to use active duty personnel in the most effective manner. In our federal system, we normally, and rightly, depend upon state and local authorities to maintain order and protect the public. The National Guard, operating under Title 32 of the U.S. Code, is the primary military organization authorized to employ police powers in times of crisis. However, in a situation of the magnitude of Hurricane Katrina, the level of destruction, coupled with the difficulty in maintaining order, brings into question the prohibition on using federal active duty military personnel, operating under Title 10 of the U.S. Code, to perform law enforcement duties.
I believe we must review the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act and similar provisions that limit the role of the active duty military to ensure that every available asset is properly employed in any type of future emergency situation. Title 18, Section 1385 of the U.S. Code, commonly referred to as the Posse Comitatus Act, prevents the armed forces from becoming involved in law enforcement activities for which, in most cases, they are not specifically trained or equipped. Posse Comitatus is largely rooted in historical tradition that prohibits military involvement in civilian affairs.
To be clear, I do not believe that U.S. law pertaining to this matter needs to be entirely rewritten. I do, however, think it is necessary that we review the regulations governing use of military personnel in domestic operations in order to better understand how all of our military assets can best assist during emergency situations.
Once again, thank you for contacting me on this issue.
With kind regards, I am
Sincerely,
John Warner

On June 4, 1963, a virtually unknown Presidential decree, Executive Order 11110, was signed with the authority to basically strip the Federal Reserve Bank of its power to loan money to the United States Federal Government at interest.
With the stroke of a pen, President Kennedy declared that the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank would soon be out of business.
The Christian Law Fellowship has exhaustively researched this matter through the Federal Register and Library of Congress. We can now safely conclude that this Executive Order has never been repealed, amended, or superceded by any subsequent Executive Order. In simple terms, it is still valid.
When President John Fitzgerald Kennedy - the author of Profiles in Courage - signed this Order, it returned to the federal government, specifically the Treasury Department, the Constitutional power to create and issue currency - money - without going through the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank.On June 4, 1963, a virtually unknown Presidential decree, Executive Order 11110, was... more

ew York City’s chief medical examiner has concluded that the death of a city police detective, James Zadroga — who worked hundreds of hours on the smoldering debris pile at ground zero after the Sept. 11 attacks — was not caused by exposure to toxic dust there. The finding contradicts an earlier autopsy by a New Jersey pathologist, who had found the death “directly related” to ground zero dust, and revived the emotional debate over the care and treatment of 9/11 first responders. The family of the highly decorated detective — who died in January 2006 at age 34, did not smoke and had no history of asthma — believes he died from sarcoidosis, a lung-scarring disease.ew York City’s chief medical examiner has concluded that the death of a city... more

If you must break the law, do it to seize power: in all other cases observe it. ~ Julius Caesar
In 2000, the long fought for and long admired democracy of the United States of America began a slow and steady decline toward fascism - a Bush family tradition - with the installment of a president - a man the citizens overwhelmingly rejected (although the funny math told a still believed myth) - by a few corrupt judges on the US Supreme Court. That coup is now nearly complete and checkmate is all but unavoidable.
Let me first point you to the Bush administration's so-called Wall Street bailout bill, here, so that you can see for yourself that this treachery is being conducted in the light of day. Fascism is finally and formally out of the right-wing closet even if the F word is not yet openly being used (although it should be, and often).
Now, if you do not yet understand that the Wall Street crisis is a man-made disaster done through intentional deregulation and corruption, I have a bridge in Alaska to sell to you (or Sara Palin does anyway). This manufactured crisis is now to be remedied, if the fiscal fascists get their way, with the total transfer of Congressional powers (the few that still remain) to the Executive Branch and the total transfer of public funds into corporate (via government as intermediary) hands.
Adam Davidson of NPR blogs about the so-called bailout bill as follows:
"I would guess that this has to be one of the biggest peacetime transfers of power from Congress to the Administration in history. (Anyone know?). Certainly one of the most concise.
"The Treasury Secretary can buy broadly defined assets, on any terms he wants, he can hire anyone he wants to do it and can appoint private sector companies as financial deputies of the US government. And he can write whatever regulation he thinks are needed."
Most importantly, Davidson points to this passage in the bill:
"Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency."
The Bush family, in the form of Prescott Bush, has tried a more aggressive coup before in order to install fascism in this country. This treasonous plot was called "the Business Plot," because the high-level plotters - including Prescott Bush - were Wall Street men who openly supported fascism.

“[T]he entire continuum of public and private life in the United States has been transformed by 9/11, the lengthy preparations for it, the ensuing cover-up, and the massive consolidation of authoritarian policies and institutions achieved in its wake. In short, I maintain that unless this phenomenon is exposed at its roots, the fundamental changes it has wrought will become permanent. That would constitute the death of the American republic.”
-Michael Ruppert, “Crossing the Rubicon”, page 14
We currently have an illegitimate, fascist war criminal administration in control of our government, that stole the elections that gave them that power, engineered an act of state sponsored-terrorism in order to remove all of the Rights that countless patriots have died for, and invade two nations in order to steal more oil and land for profit and imperial power. They have been torturing, illegally detaining and killing countless innocents over the past years, while bankrupting our economy to further concentrate the power in the hands of international bankers and corporations, who are their masters.
If all of that sounds ridiculous to you, you may want to stop reading now; you are probably too brainwashed for this information to be of any use to you. If however, you have not relied on the controlled corporate media for your information, and have seen and heard the quality evidence that supports these claims, read on.
I believe the time is critical now, because it is unlikely that these fascist murderers are going to leave office quietly without perpetrating more violence and without using the tyrannical powers which they have given themselves in the name of “The War on Terror”. Why would they pass laws streamlining the process to create martial law, forced vaccinations, detentions without trial, etc. unless they were planning on using them? Do you, like so many others, think that Obama or Clinton is going to restore all our rights and save the planet from ecological destruction, and all we have to do is wait till November? That would be nice, but when we take into consideration what these sadistic fascists have already done, it is prudent to not assume they are done with their evil ways.
First off we have to IGNORE THE CIRCUS ON NPR/FOX, ETC. The presidential campaigns being the top story of the corporate media, starting over a year and a half before the 08 election, is a purposeful distraction from issues of real importance like the truth about 9/11 and the past two elections. This media circus would have us forget that all of our Constitutional rights have been removed, and that we now live in a police state, partially dormant. Never mind that over a million civilians have already been killed, never mind the women and children that were killed today with bullets and bombs paid for by your tax dollars, no, instead lets get the latest update on how many millions McCain, Clinton, Obama, etc. have raised. (Notice too, the lack of commentary on campaign finance reform, that might actually return us to a Republic where representatives would actually represent the People, instead of corporations). Never mind that the evidence is overwhelming that the past two presidential elections were rigged and 9/11 was an inside job, no, pay attention to the manufactured circus America, so that impeachment will seem like a ridiculous idea.

High treason... this adds credence to the idea that the powers that be do whatever they want at will and with impunity; adding credence to the fact that the U.S. Government doesn't give a damn about humanity or anyone's "rights". This story is a little old, and I'm sorry if its a repost, but I couldn't find it anywhere else on current.
Apparently some of the guards of the Olympic Flame are not even citizens of the countries in which it is traveling. China has amassed its own "flame protection squad" which is authorized to protect the flame in foreign countries, and has been doing so throughout its treacherous journey.
'Yolaine De La Bigne, a French environmental journalist who was a torchbearer in Paris, told The Associated Press she tried to wear a headband with a Tibetan flag, but the Chinese agents ripped it away from her.
"It was seen and then, after four seconds, all the Chinese security pounced on me. There were at least five or six (of them). They started to get angry" and shouted "No! No! No!" in English, she said.'
from http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/node/8610 :
"The agents are described as "employees of the Beijing Organizing Committee," which founded a "flame protection squad" in August 2007. [...]
According to Chinese media, the agents are members of the paramilitary People's Armed Police, which in China is responsible for fighting unrest and maintaining internal stability. Tens of thousands of the "Wujing," as the People's Armed Police are called in Chinese, recently took part in crackdowns against demonstrators in Tibet and neighboring regions.
"These men, chosen from around the country, are each tall and large and are eminently talented and powerful," the squad's leader Zhao Si was quoted as saying. "Their outstanding physical quality is not in the slightest inferior to that of specialized athletes."
This sort of action is practically treason, letting officials from other countries police our citizens. Again, sorry if I'm late on the scene with this one, but it really grinds my gears.
