New agreement means Redmond now gets revenue from 70% of all Google-based smartphones sold in the U.S.
By Paul McDougall InformationWeek

Microsoft said Thursday that it has reached a deal with LG under which the South Korean electronics manufacturer will pay license fees in exchange for Microsoft’s pledge not to sue it for using Google’s Android and Chrome OS software in its products.Financial details of the agreement were not revealed. Microsoft has long maintained that certain components of Android and Chrome OS violate its patents, and has struck licensing deals with numerous vendors that use the Google mobile and desktop software in their gadgets.
“We are pleased to have built upon our longstanding relationship with LG to reach a mutually beneficial agreement,” said Microsoft deputy general counsel Horacio Gutierrez, in a statement.
Microsoft said the deal with LG means that 70% of Android-based smartphones sold in the U.S. are now covered by its licensing program. “We are proud of the continued success of our program in resolving the IP issues surrounding Android and Chrome OS,” said Gutierrez.
Microsoft launched its IP licensing program in 2003, and to date has struck more than 1,100 deals. Other companies that are paying Microsoft for the right to use Android or Chrome in their products without fear of a lawsuit from Redmond include HTC, Samsung, and Acer.
Microsoft has also sought licensing deals from vendors whose products run Linux, which the software maker also claims violates its patents.
Critics have charged that the program stifles competition and innovation and raises prices by forcing companies to choose between a licensing deal or the possibility of an expensive, lengthy legal battle with one of the tech industry’s richest companies.
Microsoft does not disclose how much revenue it’s obtaining from Android, Chrome, and Linux licenses, but some analysts believe it may be substantial, to the point where the company is making significant profitsfrom the mobile revolution even though its own offering, Windows Phone, commands a market share of less than 2%, according to Gartner.
Google, for its part, isn’t standing still. The search giant in August said it would pay $12.5 billion to acquire Motorola Mobility, which manufacturers Android-powered handsets, and which Microsoft has sued for patent violations. Beyond giving Google its own smartphone manufacturing capacity, the deal also gives it access to Motorola’s trove of more than 24,000 patents.
Some observers believe that if Microsoft ever sues Google directly, the latter will use those patents as the basis for a countersuit.

The Android Market and Apple App Store are locked in constant battle for the hearts and
minds of mobile device users. Although Apple still holds a lead in the total number of app
offerings, its dominance looks to be diminishing. But fear not, Apple fan boys: Team iOS
still holds an overwhelming lead in terms of app purchase revenue.

Story by Allen Silver Media Glitz,Ohio November 22, 2011
Atlanta's urban music producer Lord Hector Diono announces the online debut of his now international clothing line iCON® . Hector, who's real name is Lord Michael Chambers Rosenthorn published the site Friday November 19,2011. After reviewing the clothing line it's safe to say the articles of clothing and design would best be described as classic, chic and truly iconic. Hector was quick to mention that the line was designed to give everyday people a garment that would announce to their prospective communities a new mind state and self awareness that would set off both a national and international trend associated with their new found inner greatness.
The mission statement says it all, and I have to say this, I was taken back a bit when I discovered it while browsing the site, it read [Quote] “iCON® is not just a social status in today's society, but a state of mind. This wardrobe is designed for the go getter, from the greatest celebrities to the single parent that refuses to give up. We believe that any person that contributes to their own self recognized inner greatness is iconic and sets forth a trend for the rest of the world to follow.”
I liked the site and the clothing. I was mostly impressed with the fact that it's not just another T-Shirt shop for his home boys but an actual clothing line that even my girlfriend was able to purchase her first iCON pair of underwear. Lord Hector Diono was defined in the urban dictionary by the associated press in the United Kingdom, London as a Renaissance man, well that just might be as true a statement as it gets. Hector is also an underground rap singer who's music career happens to be managed by Def Jam Universal A&R veteran Michael Goldie Greaux, who also works with Nas, Rihanna,Travis Trent and a host of other artists in the music business. Hector has over 50 independent records released world wide through his independent music production company Dark Town Licensing, a subsidiary to his music label Dark Town Music Group with his most recent record release by island Def Jam Digital Music being an LP entitled “Scarecrow” (The Final Chapter). Hector's camp announced that he also has his own Android smart phone app and free to download.
From where I sit it looks to me as if the moves Lord Hector Diono is making allows for any parent to proud and any friend to be encouraged, I my self used to rap but I work behind a desk for a media company now, but Hector's mission statement on his site help me recognized that I don't have to drive a Rolls Royce to be considered by my peers to be iconic.Story by Allen Silver Media Glitz,OhioStory by Allen Silver Media Glitz,Ohio November 22, 2011

Google's long-awaited music store and iTunes challenger has been launched with a number of exclusives from artists such as The Rolling Stones and Coldplay.
The service offers a mixture of streaming, downloads and social media, syncing users' entire music library across their devices.
The initial reaction from Silicon Valley tech writers was that the service was, well, pretty similar to iTunes, but, you know, not as great.
Google's bid to break Apple's decade-long supremacy in the digital music world allows users to store up to 20,000 songs in their personal locker on the Google cloud service. That is similar to what Apple's Match cloud server offers its users, except, according to one Google exec, his company won't be charging an annual fee to allow users to listen to their own music on the cloud. (Apple's Match charges a $25 annual fee for storage.)
Tracks bought from the Google store are automatically synced to users' library, while there is also the option to share one full free play of a track with a friend using the Google+ social networking site.
So far, Google has signed up three of the four major record labels - Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI - but has not yet reached a deal with the Warner Music Group, which has a 20-percent share of the U.S. market.
Exclusives on the service include an unheard concert recording from The Rolling Stones, a Coldplay live track, Busta Rhymes' first single from his upcoming album 'Why Stop Now', along with content from Shakira, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and DJ Tiesto.
There has been no word yet on when the service will be launched in the UK.

HIP HOP SLOWS DOWN AND GROWS UP by Carol Sigman Online Music Watchdog:
Never before in the history of Hip Hop, or it's culture has there been a single rap record created that allows today's hip hop heads, as well as non hip hop heads alike to take there partner by the hand and slow drag to thehttp://snd.sc/vxQC4B record,That's right I said “slow drag!” Wow, remember that form of dancing in the blue light basement parties in Brooklyn back in the 70's and 80's? Well unlike the current records that have been released over the years by artist such as Drake and Lil Wayne to respectfully name a few, I discovered an online joint that took me back to my younger years of pot smoking, class skipping ,and basement slow dragging parties all in one and it wasn't a traditional songster or even a singer for that matter this joint was, get this, performed by an artist known internationally as Gangster rapper! according to some of the online Google results I got when I started looking into this song I heard Sunday October 30th
I was in the kitchen of my small Brooklyn apartment when my 17 year old son asked if he could use our shared computer, like most of the time I said sure, no problem, I'd say about 20 minutes past when I noticed my son in the living room with the head phones on and his eyes closed nodding his head to this record, I panicked a little bit because my son is generally a very hyper teen music listener, and I usually hear small amounts of change jingling in his pockets or see him lip syncing and bouncing around to what ever he's listening too, but not that day. I walked up to him, pulled the headphones off one ear and asked him flat out, “alright Jamal, what girl got you listening to grown folks music?”
My son replied this ain't your grown folks music ma, this is our grown folks music
[referring to his age group]
So I asked him to start the record over, and he did, and I asked him, “Jamal,is this dude rapping to this music” and he said “yeah ma” I asked him who the rapper was and he said “Scarecrow”, I said “who?” and he said “his name is Hector but sometimes people call him Scarecrow”. I asked my son to burn me a copy of the song on a CD for my car and he did. Monday I called off from work to catch up on my house cleaning and get ready for trick or treaters, and take some me time, later that morning I Googled “Hector Scarecrow” and saw 423,000 hits for an Atlanta producer named Lord Hector Diono, and the song I was listening to was a joint called
“I Don't Know The Plan”. I saw it on soundcloud.com, but at the time I couldn't download this song my folder, it was streaming only and after that I started searching the web, I located him on facebook, linkedin, myspace, and a host of other sites all over the internet, so I sent him a private request on facebook. I asked Hector if it would be okay with him if I blogged my story about how I heard the first rap slow jam ever made and it was his song, and he sent me his phone number to discuss my request since I don't work for him, in short we spoke for about 15 minutes and to my surprise Hector sounds like a Caribbean gigolo on the phone {smiles} he said to me, “sure darling I don't see why not” WOW.. he sounded so good to me but enough of that, he even fixed it online where I'd be able to download this song for free after I explained to him that I couldn't download it because of the player settings and he fixed it just for me! Carol from Brooklyn! Hector told me that if I was going to blog him to be sure I spelled his name right and announce that it will be on iTunes on Saturday November 12 and to download his free Android app from https://market.android.com he didn't know I had found that info on the internet already I was going to write that anyway (smiles)
Thank you Lord Hector Diono for giving Hip Hop a reason to hold their lady every now and again. Carol Sigman from Brooklyn!Source: http://snd.sc/vxQC4B
