Thousands of people in East Anglia have been advised to evacuate their homes amid fears a storm surge from the North Sea will cause severe flooding.

East Anglia most at threat from unusual conditions. Better prepared than 1953, says Environment Agency. Gordon Brown convened a meeting of the Cobra emergency contingencies committee amid signs that a storm surge off the coast of East Anglia would lead to flash flooding.
Ministers were particularly concerned about the vulnerability of the port of Lowestoft in Suffolk.
