There is a consuming sense of dread deep in the pit of my stomach regarding the Sherlock Holmes as envisioned by Guy Ritchie. Many fans of Holmes I am sure feel this way, but I would like to put down exactly why I feel the way I do so maybe the not-as-initiated can understand the trepidation experienced by those who ‘get’ Holmes.
*Yuk! Girls!*
The first red flag of any Holmes pastiche is the inclusion of Irene Adler. Adler was directly involved in one Original Canon (OC) story and was barely referenced in three others. That’s it. Holmes was not obsessed with Adler; Holmes only thought of Adler as a worthy opponent – indeed the only opponent in the OC that beat Holmes; There was no secret crush, no infatuation, no wistful belly-aching.
Holmes was very Zen regarding emotions. Attachments and emotion got in the way of pure reasoning, hence he had no use for it. To quote the man himself:
-- “It is of the first importance,” he said, “not to allow your judgment to be biased by --personal qualities. A client is to me a mere unit, — a factor in a problem. The emotional --qualities are antagonistic to clear reasoning. I assure you that the most winning woman I --ever knew was hanged for poisoning three little children for their insurance-money, and --the -most repellant man of my acquaintance is a philanthropist who has spent nearly a --quarter -of a million upon the London poor.”
Holmes had no care for women other than how they were involved in the chain of reasoning to a problem. He considered them the weaker sex, was very gender-biased, and Adler was the one exception. End of story.
I am assuming that Adler will somehow be mis-used in the story. I think it is safe assumption because, frankly, the only way to use Adler is to mis-use her. She simply has no place in a Holmes narrative. I’m betting on a love interest angle, but even if not, it is an un-needed complication and distraction.
*Holmes. Sherlock Holmes.*
Based on the trailers for the upcoming movie, “Sherlock Holmes” appears to be more of a Victorian era James Bond or Jason Bourne than anything resembling Sherlock Holmes. Gadgets, explosions, physical humor, and – inexplicably – some type of fight club seem to haunt every piece of footage released regarding this movie.
I’m not sure how many great explosions there were in London in the mid to late 1800s, but I am guessing that there were less than the amount shown just in the trailer for “Sherlock Holmes.” Dr. No type villains with an arsenal of nuclear weapons did not exist in Victorian times England. This seems to be a case of villain absurdity nearing Wild Wild West proportions if the released scenes are any indication.

Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes hasn't even been released yet but everyone's so confident that a sequel is already underway. With Brad Pitt as Moriarty. Sound familiar? Rumours were flying around a few weeks ago that studio execs were worried about the film and decided to film some extra scenes with Pitt in order to insure a hit. It's pretty unclear whether this has happened, but with the sequel already underway and with a confirmed Pitt, anyone interested will see the first one just for the second. Kind of like The Godfather. Which is the only comparison Ritchie will ever get to that. Ever.Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes hasn't even been released yet but everyone's so... more

This might only be a rumour. But the London Paper seems to believe it's true.
When producers saw a rough cut of Guy Ritchie's 'Sherlock Holmes', they thought something was missing. It turns out that something was Brad Pitt as Holmes' arch nemesis Professor Moriarty.
Seems like they're reaching a little here. First of all there are few bigger box office draws than Brad Pitt, and secondly this seems a step too far, plot-wise. And if I was Mark Strong I'd be seriously aggrieved right about now. This might only be a rumour. But the London Paper seems to believe it's true.

Some critics have said that Guy Ritchie's new movie Sherlock Holmes could put off audiences.
Film critic Michael Medved told the New York Post "There's not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals. I think they're just trying to generate controversy. Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don't think it would be appealing to women. Straight men don't want to see it".
However Robert Downey Jr said ""We're two men who happen to be roommates, wrestle a lot and share a bed. It's bad-ass.”
Who's right? It's an interesting spin whatever happens and perhaps people will be pleased do see some sexual ambiguity in a "buddy movie"Some critics have said that Guy Ritchie's new movie Sherlock Holmes could put off... more

"A comic reworking of Sherlock Holmes, relocated to 21st century London, is one of the highlights of a package of drama greenlit by the BBC.
“Sherlock,” which will air as three 90-minute episodes, is co-created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, “Doctor Who’s” new showrunner.
It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the iconic crimebuster and Martin Freeman as his loyal sidekick, Watson. Hartswood Films, the shingle of Moffat’s wife, Sue Vertue, is producing.
Other drama offerings include coming-of-ager “The Silence,” a four-part serial made by Company Pictures; five-part Arctic submarine thriller “The Deep,” from Tiger Aspect; and a two-part adaptation of Kay Mellor’s play “A Passionate Woman.”
All will unspool on BBC1 next year.
BBC head of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson unveiled the slate on Tuesday, saying, “All of these pieces start and end with a writer’s startling vision.”
The announcement undercuts criticism from veteran producer Tony Garnett earlier this week that the pubcaster’s drama department lacks creativity. He claimed the BBC is too interested in backing “high-volume junk.”
On Tuesday, the BBC Trust called on the pubcaster to raise its game in smallscreen fiction.
The Trust, which is the BBC’s inhouse watchdog, demanded “greater range and ambition across all types of drama on the BBC.”""A comic reworking of Sherlock Holmes, relocated to 21st century London, is one of the... more

No sillies, it's not Magnum PI!!!
It's the new Sherlock Holmes.
What we DO NOT NEED--A bacchanal Libertine Holmes with his d*ck hanging out; panting after women. No thanks! Gotta wonder if this will be as abysmal as Richie's previous efforts.
Do we really need to see anymore fight scenes with lingerie clad models???? Oh---Never mind! I'm gonna go and throw up now.No sillies, it's not Magnum PI!!!

Some new exclusive pictures direct from the set of Guy Ritchie's next film, a remake of Sherlock Holmes. have emerged on an American newspaper' website and they look pretty damn good.
The film stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law and will see Downey Jr. playing the role as "a scruffier if equally celebral looking card."
The costumes and sets don't look half bad, but was Downey the right choice to play the iconic detective?

Set to come out on Christmas Day, 2009, the new Sherlock Holmes movie had Guy Richie (Snatch, RocknRolla) directing, Robert Downey Jr as Holmes and Jude Law as Watson!
Here's what another co-star, Rachel McAdams had to say about the film:
"It’s in true Guy Ritchie fashion, too. It’s lots of fighting and explosions, but, I think, from what I’ve seen, obviously Robert Downey Jr. is an amazing actor, and so is Jude Law. They make a wonderful duo. I think some people are probably skeptical. Everybody has their preconceived notions about Watson in particular. Everyone’s like, “Watson’s supposed to be like this.” Anyway, I just think Jude is a perfect Watson, oddly enough, and they’re really perfect together. That’s kind of the love story, actually. I play supposedly Sherlock’s love interest, but it’s really Watson."

Looks like the new film starring Robert Downy Jnr as Sherlock and Jude Law as Doctor Watson might be in trouble. According to The Sun 5 scenes are having to be re-shot. Apparently Guy was 'distracted' by his divorce from Madonna.
Guy has vowed to fix the film but if it does turn out to be plop he can always blame this one on Madonna to I suppose, it worked for Swept Away.Looks like the new film starring Robert Downy Jnr as Sherlock and Jude Law as Doctor... more
