NEW DELHI — Police in India detained three men for questioning in Kashmir Thursday in connection with a bombing at a New Delhi court complex Wednesday that killed 11 people and injured at least 76, the Associated Press reported.
The blast, from a bomb hidden in a briefcase, occurred outside the reception area of the Delhi High Court complex during the morning rush hour, shortly after 10 a.m
In an e-mail received by an Indian news television station, a Pakistan-based group called Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami asserted responsibility for the blast. The
e-mail said the al-Qaeda-inspired group, which also has cells in India and Bangladesh, would target several courts across India, including the Supreme Court, unless authorities immediately rescinded the death sentence of Afzal Guru, a Kashmiri convicted for his role in a 2001 attack on India's Parliament.
A clemency petition from Afzal was recently rejected.
Security officials said they were examining the e-mail's authenticity. "This could even be a smoke screen, maybe meant to distract us," one intelligence official said. The official said the Harkat-ul-Jehadi cell in Kashmir has been weakened because of a series of arrests and surrenders.
Early Thursday, police in Kashmir said investigators had traced the e-mail to an Internet cafe in Kishtwar, in Kashmir, and they detained three residents of the town for questioning, including the owner of an Internet cafe.
A security official in Kashmir said the two-line e-mail was sent three hours after the bomb blast in New Delhi, by an 18-year-old man. An assistant at the cyber cafe told the official that the sender of the e-mail spoke a local dialect that indicated that he was from Kishtwar.
Authorities also were searching various locations in Kishtwar for clues, the Associated Press reported.
Also Thursday, the Indian news station Headlines Today received an e-mail from an indigenous militant group, called Indian Mujahadeen, which also claimed responsibility for the attack. Indian Mujahadeen is accused of carrying out a series of bombings in several cities since 2007. The news channel said it sent the e-mail to the Home Ministry for verification.
India's top internal security official, U.K. Bansal, said preliminary investigation of the blast site turned up traces of nitrate-based explosives and pentaerythritol tetranitrate, known as PETN, which he called "the explosive of choice for terrorists."
Unlike in some earlier attacks, Indian officials and police appeared reluctant to jump to conclusions or point a finger immediately at Muslim groups or neighboring Pakistan, with which New Delhi began a fragile peace process this year. In 2007, India was quick to blame Pakistan for a train bombing, but a subsequent investigation pointed to the involvement of radical Hindu groups based in India.
"There is a directive that has gone out that we will not name anyone in a hurry. It is because of the earlier mess-ups," said the intelligence official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media. He also said that there have been no substantial leads in any of the seven attacks across India since last summer.NEW DELHI — Police in India detained three men for questioning in Kashmir... more

Men claiming to be al-Qaida operatives are moving into the humanitarian vacuum in Somalia, distributing aid and cash to drought victims in an attempt to win hearts and minds, a Guardian investigation can reveal.
On a visit to the sprawling Ala-Yasir camp in the south of the country, the Guardian saw an al-Qaida unit handing out rice, flour, oil, dates and milk as well as Islamic books and clothes to some of the more than 4,000 people made destitute by this year's drought.
This was the first time the group has spoken publicly in Somalia, and the first time it has distributed aid. The unit's leader was introduced to the Guardian as al-Qaida's official envoy to Somalia.
Representatives of al-Shabaab, the militant Islamist group trying to seize power in the country, called him Abu Abdullah Muhajir, and said he was a white American. It was impossible to verify his identity or nationality.
Al-Shabaab is closely affiliated to al-Qaida and, after the killing of Osama bin Laden, the group vowed to avenge his death. A number of US citizens are known to have joined al-Shabaab in Somalia, including a suicide bomber from Minneapolis who attacked African Union troops in Mogadishu on Sunday.
Reading from a prepared statement, in American-accented English, Abu Abdullah Muhajir told the crowd: "To our beloved brothers and sisters in Somalia: we are following your situation on a daily basis. And, though we are separated by thousands of kilometres, you are consistently in our thoughts and prayers."
He then handed out the contents of bags full of Somali shillings to the equivalent of $17,000 (£10,600). The al-Qaida unit also brought along a fully staffed ambulance. Al-Qaida regards the young boys stuck in the camp after being driven from their villages by the drought as potential recruits. The boys gave Abu Abdullah Muhajir a rapturous welcome: "God is great! God is great!"
Osman Hassan, 16, clutched dates, milk and the Qur'an, gifts from al-Qaida. He said: "I pray for them to win over their enemies."
Muhammad Barre, nine, said: "I ask God to make al-Qaida victorious over their enemies."
After a decade-long war that has hobbled al-Qaida in eastern Afghanistan, the west's main concern is that the movement may be able to regroup in Somalia, which has had no functioning central government for more than two decades. The Ala-Yasir camp was set up in response to the worst regional drought in 60 years, which has affected (according to the latest UN report on Somalia) 4 million Somalis. It is located in the southern part of country, an area controlled by al-Shabaab.
Al-Shabaab members run the camp, having banned some of the international agencies from distributing aid.
The UN World Food Programme says it pulled out of the area because of threats to staff, and demands of informal taxes by the group. Al-Shabaab denies the claims.
Among the dozens of men accompanying the American visitor were several other foreigners, including some with English accents.
Also with them was a member of al-Shabaab calling himself Abu Omar, who was directing the food distribution.
He said he was British, but it was impossible to confirm this independently.
"It's a religious obligation. It's a duty upon us," he said. "I mean, we left our countries. I left, we left our jobs [and] ... all these places just to come here and help our people. I'm an aid worker, basically … typical aid worker, as you say in the west."Men claiming to be al-Qaida operatives are moving into the humanitarian vacuum in... more

Gareth Porter at FPIF:
In the commentary on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, the news and infotainment media have predictably framed the discussion by the question of how successful the CIA and the military have been in destroying al Qaeda. Absent from the torrent of opinion and analysis was any mention of how the U.S. military occupation of Muslim lands and wars that continue to kill Muslim civilians fuel jihadist sentiment that will keep the threat of terrorism high for many years to come.
The failure to have that discussion is not an accident. In December 2007, at a conference in Washington, D.C. on al Qaeda, former State Department Coordinator for Counterterrorism Daniel Benjamin offered a laundry list of things the United States could do to reduce the threat from al Qaeda. But he said nothing about the most important thing to be done: pledging to the Islamic world that the United States would pull its military forces out of Afghanistan and Iraq and end its warfare against those in Islamic countries resisting U.S. military presence.
During the coffee break, I asked him whether that item shouldn’t have been on his list. “You’re right,” he answered. And then he added, “But we can’t do that.”
“Why not,” I asked.
“Because,” he said, “we would have to tell the families of the soldiers who have died in those wars that their loved ones died in vain.”
His explanation was obviously bogus. But in agreeing that America’s continuing wars actually increase the risk of terrorism against the United States, Benjamin was merely reflecting the conclusions that the intelligence and counter-terrorism communities had already reached.

July 2011 is getting closer. It is the time that US forces will begin to be drawn down from Afghanistan. That timetable was given by Barack Obama before Osama bin Laden met his demise. And if the mission is still to 'disrupt, dismantle and defeat al-Qaeda', it would appear that our job is done. There was never a large contingency of al-Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan, as the US quickly learned that the real fight was across the border, in Pakistan. But not everybody is on the same page, as far as how many troops will be sent home and at what rate.
We currently have 100,000 American men and women in Afghanistan out of 140,000 total, the balance being NATO forces; if their effectiveness in Libya is any indication, they might as well go home. The war is costing the US $100 billion a year. We have been in the country for a decade. The Pentagon's neocons will tell you that it was the 'surge' in body count which helped NATO win significant battles against the Taliban in key regions of the country.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in Abu Dhabi today, where she held a news conference at the Emirates Palace Hotel.
Secretary Clinton is in Abu Dhabi to participate in the third meeting of the International Contact Group on Libya. Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcome Clinton and she, in turn, thanked the United Arab Emirates hosting the Contact Group on Libya meeting and its key role in boosting regional security and stability.
Last week, Yemeni President Saleh had to be flown to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for burns treatment after a bomb exploded at a mosque inside his palace. Though he pledged to return to the country, the US has urged him to remain in Saudi Arabia. Secretary Clinton indicated that she did not know whether Saleh would come back.
In Sanaa Wednesday, demonstrators chanted 'No to Saleh's return'.

According to news reported by WikiLeaks, threats have been received from al-Qaeda terrorists, stating that they will “unleash a nuclear hellstorm” upon Western countries if Osama bin Laden is ever caught or killed.
Further, an al-Qaeda senior commander revealed that their group has hidden a nuclear device somewhere in Europe, which will be exploded if and when Osama bin Laden is nabbed or assassinated, per recent “top secret” documents, publicized by whistle-blower WikiLeaks.
These files contain confidential specifics regarding the backgrounds and confinement of 780 prisoners who have been held or released from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba, including their medical condition and whatever information they have divulged during questioning.
The questioning discovered other possible plots – including one to recruit staff at Heathrow Airport and the poisoning of public buildings in the U.S. by putting cyanide in the air conditioning. About 200 detainees labeled as dangerous international terrorists and hundreds were assessed as “low-level foot soldiers.”
Also disclosed, was information that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, operational commander of al-Qaeda, along with approximately 150 innocent Pakistanis and Afghans were arrested and jailed. Some were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Any of those persons taken to Guantanamo were basically unable to prove their innocence, even if they were innocent.
Certain U.S. and European news centers, have received these documents which state that at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the U.S., the key figures associated with al-Qaeda, were meeting in a safe house in Karachi, Pakistan. From this location, they watched the airplanes crash into the World Trade Center, on live TV.
At the same time, the accused planner of the USS’ Cole bombing, near Yemen, was recuperating from a tonsillectomy; the mastermind of the Bali 2001 bombing was busy purchasing lab equipment for a biological weapons endeavor.
By the next day, many of the al-Qaeda terrorist associates quietly returned to Afghanistan to do their strategic planning for an extended war, as reports were made by the Washington Post, about new information on the al-Qaeda terror brigade’s location.
The secret files describe the 9/11 terrorist assaults and the locations of its’ planners at the time of the attacks, which included the “world’s most wanted” – Osama Bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri his deputy.
The documents also state that on Sept. 15th, bin Laden and his group met in Kandahar province, at a guest house to “defend Afghanistan against infidel invaders” and to “fight in the name of Allah.”
In spite of the promise by President Obama when he took office, to close Guantanamo Bay – he couldn’t win his political fight with Republicans over this matter - and now he won’t be able to close it at all – a rather embarrassing situation for Obama.According to news reported by WikiLeaks, threats have been received from al-Qaeda... more

If you were president of the United States, there is probably no greater pleasure that you’d be the one to announce the death of al-Qaeda mastermind Osama ben Laden. We are seeing images of people surrounding the White House in anticipation of the President’s statement, shouting “USA, USA”, singing the American national anthem, cheering the news of the death of America’s most wanted criminal.
The White House took its time in formulating a statement. President Obama walked to the podium of the East Room to deliver the news that Osama ben Laden had been killed, and recalled the day that changed America on 9/11. He spoke of the grief wrought on the U.S. by the attacks, and the feeling of oneness that emerged from that pain. He beckoned the American people to make an effort to regain this feeling of unity toward the end of his announcement.

Kobe Bryant looking like a f**king fa**ot in this photo by Ruven Afandor.
Kobe Bryant did the unthinkable. In a moment of heated passion and utter annoyance at a play on a basketball court, he spewed the two words that no homosexual likes to hear. This quickly became GLAAD’s call to arms, rainbow flag in hand, crying (with tears) foul. There was a time that simply the F-word was taboo extraordinaire on the courts with penalties mounting as the inner city kids were taking over the sport. This recent Kobe-Gate multiplies the drama times two because when he screamed F**cking Fa**ot, he was not just whistling Dixie. It was a double entendre and you had two no-no’s for the price of one.
As a homosexual Jew who would have slaughter in minutes by the Nazis and a few current Republicans, I would like to draw a line in the sand and say that it is OK to cross it. We all say words that we do not mean literally. As the world become beyond homogenized and political correctness traps up into a frozen state of not knowing what to say, I say let bygones be bygones and just don’t make a habit of it. A year ago I wrote a piece called The End of Political Correctness and to this day, I think it still holds true. Frankly, things never will change. There will be N-words and F-words till Judgment Day, so why judge people for a slip of the tongue? A slap on the wrist , rather, a slap on the ass is the appropriate penalty here.
Here is what I wrote on April 2, 2010:
Over the last few decades, we have become curiously, annoyingly and extremely politically correct and certain words have become absolutely taboo. That which was once acceptable is now considered offensive and there are times when you just don’t know what to say for fear of offending anyone or everyone around you. In the early 1970s, I was bussed to an all–black high school. “Black” was the acceptable term then, whereas now, “African-American” is the new black, replacing what was once the new “colored”. My ancestors are from Russia and Poland, do I walk around saying I am Russian-American, or worse, Polish-American? We are caught in the quagmire of what is the “right thing to say” and quite frankly, I see no light at the end of this tunnel – not even a glimmer.
The expression “politically correct” or “political correctness” can be traced back to 1920s Germany, when communist academia sought to impose their views on students. The term became more frequently used in the 1960s and 1970s by suburban bleeding-heart liberals, feminists and progressives who were intent on impacting the media, while leaving an emotional imprint on the Baby Boomer generation. As Boomers became adults, they clung on to the notion of being “politically correct”, however, adapting some of the initial ideas to surprisingly new and often meticulously planed-out hidden agendas.
What we now have is a wide-ranging group of hypocrites in charge of the media and most industries, where everyone is expected to play nice in the sandbox. The climate of corporate politics suggests that you “keep your head down” while those in higher positions, do as they please regarding dubious hiring practices, stealing, or worse, illegal activities as in the case of the banking culture and while I am at it, the Catholic Church. I refer to this group as the “nouveaux-hypocritical”. In light of the recent attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day in Detroit by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (a.k.a. “The Underwear Bomber”), there’s a renewed outcry for stricter airport screening regarding “certain types”, or, as it is more commonly referred to, racial profiling. Then again, at the risk of sounding like a total bigot, is that actually such a bad idea? The Muslim Public Affairs Council calls racial profiling unconstitutional. But from where I’m sitting, it is equally unconstitutional to sew explosives into your Calvins to bring a plane down on Christmas Day.
When Richard Reid (a.k.a. “The Shoe Bomber”) was captured, we automatically started checking everyone’s shoes… even old ladies’ with large, unsightly corns. Umar’s bomb was hidden in his underwear, so now what? Will security guards start pulling down our pants? Random wedgies? There’s some fancy detective work for you. Isn’t it easier to identify a certain type of individual that we can all look at cross-eyed? The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is claiming invasion of privacy and rejecting the controversial full body scans. Feel free to check out my ass in order to secure safe passage. How about that recent case in Saudi Arabia where the Al-Qaeda member had an explosive stashed in his anal cavity. What next, proctologists moonlighting for the sake of airport security? Immediately after 9-11, while working with a writer on her promotional book tour, we had to continue the planned nine-city schedule. This involved several plane rides, one of which was to Kentucky, where one of the reported terrorists had lived. Believe me, we were doing our own version of racial profiling aplenty. It was more anecdotal than a serious bid to rid evildoers, but I found much comfort in giving the evil eye to a host of “certain-types”. Was I being politically incorrect? Thank you.
To see the list of things you simply cannot say…
There are expressions that you can no longer say and on the same token things that you have to say…or else! Here is a list of the most important ones, to ensure you stay politically correct in these confusing times:
1. Worldwide no-no is the N-word.
2. People with intellectual disabilities no longer can be called Retarded. Whereas I find it most applicable in the case of Umar, that retarded member of the Lucky Sperm Club who tried blowing up Flight 253 on Christmas Day.
3. African-American, Asian-American, Latino-American, Corporate-American.
4. Child-Obesity is the politically correct term for Fat Kid these days. As an ex-fatty, call me fatso any day over “You obese baboon”.
5. Tranny hookers now must be referred to as Transgender Sex Workers. As a past resident of the Meatpacking District in New York City back in the 1990’s, I can assure you; “tranny hooker” is how they referred to themselves. It was the uber-political correct LGBT Community Center that put that glamorous title onto them and consequently killed their business.
6. Homosexuals became really Gay around the time of the Stonewall Riots in the 1969, birthing the Gay Rights movement. Whereas in England, Fags are the correct term for cigarettes.
7. The women’s equality movement escalated in the 1970’s demanding equal pay for equal work, which also birthed the Bitch in the Workplace.
8. Midgets must now be referred to as Little People, even in the Wonderful Land of Oz and Munchkin Land.
9. Secretaries needed an ego boost and the only option was a title as opposed to a raise, so they settled for Administrative Assistant, which sure beats Mistress.
10. Housewives once they heard that their husband’s secretaries were getting a verbal promotion, quickly jumped on the bandwagon and demanded to be called Domestic Engineers. Those who survive Fucked Up Upbringings, which is most of us, can now say we came from Dysfunctional Families.
11. Someone Crippled became Handicapped, which evolved into Disabled and now is officially Physically Challenged…until that will be simply unacceptable.
Now matter what you say or do, there is always a 50% chance that you will be utterly, terribly and embarrassingly wrong. So, either we just stop talking and communicating altogether or rather, say whatever we want and let the chips fall where they may.

Egypt's Daily News reported today that Ali Abdullah Saleh is finished as Yemen’s president.
There is increased pressure from the United States for Saleh to step down, and quickly, as growing concern that al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, aka AQAP, is taking advantage of the unrest in the country to strategize new attacks on the West. The State Department continued to repeat the message, both publicly and privately, that Saleh cannot resort to violence to resolve the problems with the opposition.
Despite these calls, in a second day of fighting, Yemeni soldiers shot dead at least fifteen protesters and wounded hundreds of others in the city of Taez according to medical sources.
In mid-February, a small group of pro-democracy protesters started to march peacefully at Sanaa University in Yemen's capital demanding reform, and emboldened by the tidal wave that is sweeping North Africa and the Middle East, the protest has grown to encompass the entire country.Egypt's Daily News reported today that Ali Abdullah Saleh is finished as... more

Yemen's embattled president Ali Abdullah Saleh has suffered some serious setbacks in the last 48 hours. The man who could replace him, a top military officer, along with 18 other senior commanders, joined the opposition forces who have been calling for Saleh's ouster who has been in power for 33 years.
Inspired by Egypt's success in toppling Hosni Mubarak, thousands of youth have been demonstrating peacefully for democracy since February 21, 2011. The tide turned on Friday for Saleh, when his security forces killed 50 protesters near Sanaa University in the country's capital. Further erosion of his legitimacy came as he lost the support of his own tribe and his entire cabinet, which he fired before they could reportedly stage a mass resignation.
On Monday night, the U.S. embassy recommended that Americans in Yemen stay indoors due to the political instability in the country and the uncertainty.Yemen's embattled president Ali Abdullah Saleh has suffered some serious setbacks... more

The Tripoli Post reported today that Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi requested a UN or African Union independent inquiry into his country's unrest during an interview with the French weekly Le Journal du Dimanche. He also claimed that investigators would have complete and free access in order to conduct such an inquiry.
He re-iterated that if he were to step down from leadership in Libya, that the country would fall into the hands of al-Qaeda, and that its members would most certainly become the new pirates of the Mediterannean, and would create chaos, which would in turn have very serious consequences for Europe. Though he continues to use al-Qaeda as the source of all evil which managed to turn Libyans against him using hallucinogenic drugs, he is now unleashing by proxy the wrath of the Islamist extremist group, a branch of which is already installed in the Maghreb, of which Libya is part.
He played on the already heightened fears that Europe would see an unprecedented avalanche of Libyans migrants which 'no one will be able to stop', and that ben-Laden's men would attack the U.S. Sixth Fleet.

According to Washington bureau chief for Al-Arabiya TV Hisham Melhem, in a response to the Libyan leader latest telephone address to his people, Qaddafi is grabbing at straws and using the al-Qaeda boogie man to suggest that outside forces and drugs are responsible for the chaos in Libya. Melhem was questioned by MSNBC News about 15 minutes ago on Thursday regarding the situation in Libya, where it is now reported that West Libya is slipping out of Qaddafi's control.
Though President Obama broke his silence yesterday in a two-minute speech regarding the outrageous situation in Libya, he didn't offer anything concrete that would stop the violence against Libyan civilians, where mercenaries have been 'imported' into the country to murder protesters.
The situation in Europe is much different however. Yesterday, on France24, a 30-minute debate ensued with the moderator calling for the assassination of Libya's president. The panel included former CIA Paris Chief Charles Cogan who rejected the idea that the CIA should get involved in such a move. Very early this morning, BBC News tweeted that the time may have come for the UK to intervene militarily in order to save Libyan lives.

The TV and your computer monitor can be used to manipulate your nervous system. Here is the proof. Read it and weep:
Nervous system manipulation by electromagnetic fields from monitors US Patent #6,506,148
“SUMMARY: Computer monitors and TV monitors can be made to emit weak low-frequency electromagnetic fields merely by pulsing the intensity of displayed images. Experiments have shown that the 1/2 Hz sensory resonance can be excited in this manner in a subject near the monitor. The 2.4 Hz sensory resonance can also be excited in this fashion. Hence, a TV monitor or computer monitor can be used to manipulate the nervous system of nearby people.”

Richard Holbrooke, 69, died this evening as a result of cardiac complications despite a twenty-hour emergency surgery on Friday to repair a torn aorta. He underwent a second surgery on Sunday.
He has been often referred to as the 'Bulldozer' for his indefatigable and no-nonsense approach to conflict resolution. His major accomplishment was as chief architect of the Dayton Accords, the November 1995 agreement that brought peace to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Ambassador Holbrooke's current assignment was the very difficult Afpak, i.e. Afghanistan/Pakistan war and resolution, a task that he tackled relentlessly. His death will most certainly leave a gaping hole in the diplomatic channel to one of the most volatile areas of the world. Holbrooke had served the United States in one way or another for the last fifty years.
This evening, as his death makes headlines, I heard Andrea Mitchell talk about Richard Holbrooke in a very candid manner; she admitted having been a friend, as well as a journalist reporting on his movements. She called him energetic, purposeful and the owner of a very large ego. She also said he could be downright exasperating. If I were to read between the lines, I guess she was saying if he were negotiating with you, you'd most likely surrender.Richard Holbrooke, 69, died this evening as a result of cardiac complications despite... more
