Martin Luther King III Marches To Get Out The Vote

ATLANTA -- In what could turn out to be a historic election, Martin Luther King, III, the eldest son of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., marched through the streets of Atlanta Sunday rallying citizens to cast their ballots on Election Day.

“My dad used to say that a voteless people is a powerless people and that one of the most important steps you can take is that short step to the ballot box,” said King.
The local rally, organized by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, was part of a national nonpartisan campaign dubbed the Million March 2 Vote. The campaign encourages members and constituents of civic-minded organizations to vote.
Sunday’s rally started at Morris Brown College and ended at the Georgia State Capitol.
“This is not just about one party or one candidate. This is about the right to vote,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Sharpton told Channel 2 that he believes polls should have remained open during the weekend to accommodate long lines. He and other leaders spoke to an overwhelmingly pro-Obama crowd Sunday.
“When you know people have died so you can have the right to vote, we need to get up and vote no matter what,” said Renee Sudderath.
Some people told Channel 2 they plan to do anything and everything to ensure smooth sailing at the polls Tuesday.

Congressman John Lewis was a major student leader back in the day with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and has served his district that includes Atlanta with dignity, power and inspiration.
Congressman Lewis introduced Martin Luther King III at the Realizing the Dream Poverty in America Initiative report to Congress in October 2007. His rousing call to renew the fight against poverty and injustice, and the shame of 38 million Americans living in poverty was epic.
Congressman John Lewis has the experience and political know-how to be a great vice-president.
I'd love to see a Hillary Clinton/John Lewis ticket. The dems could win, then America will have two hard-working dedicated proven public servants committed to peace and justice at the helm.

What a era of peace, prosperity and social justice, we could achieve with a long-term plan.

As Martin Luther King III said in Israel last summer. We must turn his father's "dream into vision, and that vision into action.
Stopping the name-calling and thinking out a disciplined plan that recognizes the need right now for experience and words backed by action, with space to nurture and support the development of younger leaders like Barack Obama and other inspiring leaders, both men and women, from all of our communities of all colors, including white, could be a plan for real change.

At Santa Clara Pueblo, Marian Naranjo and her family hosted Martin Luther King III and he met a newlywed couple at the Tribal Offices.
