The complex diversity of human ethnicity is a testament to human adaptability and resilience. Our libraries and schools are now filled with volumes written about unique and independent social systems that have coexisted for millennia throughout the planet. There are countless examples to choose from that run the gamut of human kin group possibilities?some egalitarian, some totalitarian. There is not one set standard, from an anthropological or sociological point of view that is constant with regard to marriage, or what constitutes a kin group. There are many complex individual psychological processes at work that cause people to bond and form into groups and the most commonly recognized and studied unit is the family. However, for many people at different times in human history, family has meant different things. What most anthropologists and sociologists do agree on is that in every society each individual has a role to play in the social construction of reality. However the situation that the public at large deals with on a daily basis is how to clearly identify individual roles and how to mediate conflicts arising from everyone?s individual pursuit of happiness; where these conflicts are most evident are in the arenas of gender, class, and ethnicity.

This is a link to an essay I wrote on Gay Marriage as part of my degree program in Journalism. Hope you all like it.
In the eyes of many people gay marriage, much like abortion, is considered a moral issue due to the fact that most religions in the world view homosexuality as a deviance from the norm, whereas abortion the murder of innocent children. I believe that this stems from the idea established in the book of Genesis, and similar creation accounts from other sacred texts, that the primary purpose of humanity is for men and women to join together in one flesh couples and procreate. This arrangement later became referred to as marriage and is often regarded as the foundation of human civilization. Both homosexuality and abortion are in strong opposition to these absolute concepts. I also found that there are those conservative, not necessarily religious, people who view homosexuality as a mental illness or a psychological disorder and therefore oppose gay marriage on that basis. This is a link to an essay I wrote on Gay Marriage as part of my degree program in... more

Very interesting essay that changed my life when I first read it in 2003. After reading this article, I put out a zine entitled "The Agents Not the Spectators" encouraging artists to stop talking about art and start making art. Espinosa believes that with access to proper education and available means for creating art, anyone (and everyone) can be an artist, thus eliminating the superiority and elitism that exists between artists and "non-artists".
