Minnesota Republicans (and Democrats) resist Fiscal TAR
MN GOP CD6 Chair David FitzSimmons
As if it were not bad enough that members of this writer's Republican Party voted for NDAA, this past weekend rank and file Republicans suffered another betrayal at the hands of our party elite.
This Past Saturday, April 14, 2012, this writer served as a delegate at Minnesota CD6 Republican Convention at the Mounds Views Community Center in Mounds View, Minnesota.
As this writer’s regular readers know, for the past 3+ years this writer has submitted articles regarding the failure of various Government institutions to provide citizens with financial information which is supposed to be a matter of public record:

Apology to the Little Old Ladies of Wright County Minnesota
http://exm.nr/IzEKVg
And for these past 3 years, Wright County has not provided, nor have any of my state elected officials been able to force Wright County to give me all of the information this author has requested. Not my State Senator or Representative, Not the State Auditor nor the State Attorney General.
Not even the MN IPAD http://www.ipad.state.mn.us
The State IPAD agreed that this writer was entitled to the information and said they would prepare a legal brief to that affect. However, this writer would have to hire and attorney and sue the County for the
information in Court.

We can thank all of our duplicitous elected State officials, Republican and Democrat alike, for providing all municipal entities with a way to avoid giving citizens information which is supposed to be a matter public record.
To defeat the duplicity of our elected officials, In 2010 this writer submitted approximately this TAR (Transparency, Accountability and Reform) resolution to his local precinct. It passed but somehow got lost
in the process to be added to the Republican Platform.
“Requiring all Minnesota Municipalities (Cities, Counties,
Schools, etc) to post their budgets and actual revenues and spending on
the internet in layman’s terms with no aggregates over one hundred
dollars.”
Now, at this point, this writer asks the reader if they would think that any elected official working in the best interests of rank and file Americans would have any problem enacting such legislation; especially
given that this financial information is supposed to be public record.
Keep that answer in mind while you read the rest of this article.
In pursuing adoption of this resolution and subsequent legislation, this writer had the 1st Principles of the
Founding Fathers in mind:
The fundamental understanding our US Founding Fathers had in
drafting our constitution, is People under Natural Law have free will,
and are not virtuous by nature. Therefore, governments must be
constructed in anticipation of the nature of man. Acting on this
knowledge, our Founding Fathers built into our Government and
Constitution, various checks and balances.
Amongst these checks and balances were transparency and
accountability. All of our problems today emanate from the slow,
persistent rolling back of the checks and balances, transparency and
accountability our Founding Fathers built into our Government and
Constitution.
http://bit.ly/nLIqPn
Yet somehow, Amy Koch, then the Senate Majority leader and my State Senator would not even try to author or pass this bill. Senator Koch just stopped returning this writer’s calls and emails on this Fiscal
TAR. (Nor on my proposals for Judicial TAR) 2 Republicans Legislators flat out told me in confidence that no one in the Minnesota Legislature wants great transparency.
This year this writer again had substantially the same resolution passed at the precinct level, then passed forward at the Wright County BPOU level. Finally this writer attended the MN CD6 Convention as a
delegate to....

Michelle Bachmann Tosses Up Her Tar Baby Sleep Toy, Again.
Michelle Bachmann Joins The Hall Of Shame.
Today's post has nothing to do with NUTTIN. Michelle Bachmann lost the Repub Primary and we don't have to fear her insaneness any longer.
(Or do we?) BUT.....
Why do we have to see and hear the nonsense she spreads so furiously around like so much TAR on a leaky roof? Hey MAINSTREAM MEDIA, listen up! We are sick of Bachmann and her convoluted ideas about reality. Banish her to FOX FAKE NEWS where she belongs and leave us to enjoy the sweet aroma of FACT FILLED TRUTH! Yeah right, like I believe, in this LOONEY TUNE TEA PARTY America we find ourselves in, that THAT will ever happen. thinkingblue
~~~
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) blasted President Obama following his proposed "crackdown" on firms found to be manipulating the oil market, saying he is "waving a tar baby in the air" as a distraction from high gas prices.
"This is just about waving a tar baby in the air and saying that something else is a problem," Bachmann said in an interview Wednesday with The Shark Tank, a conservative news organization that covers Florida politics. "I have never seen a more irresponsible president who is infantile in the way that he continually blames everyone else for his failure to first diagnose the problem and second to address the problem. It's always everyone else's fault."
She said her message for the president is, "Get over it," and stop blaming everyone else.
The term "tar baby" is a racially loaded phrase coined in the "Brer Rabbit" tales. The term generally means a "sticky situation," but has also been used as a derogatory term for a black person.
Rep. Doug Lamborn, a Republican from Colorado, apologized last year after he said associating with Obama was "like touching a tar baby."
Bachmann's attack on Obama comes after he pushed Congress this week for legislation that would increase penalties on oil speculators manipulating the market. He called for increased federal supervision of the markets and funding for enforcement.
“We can’t afford a situation where speculators artificially manipulate markets by buying up oil, creating the perception of a shortage and driving prices higher, only to flip the oil for a quick profit,” Obama said during a Rose Garden speech Tuesday. Alberta's Tar Sands are a true embarrassment for us Canadians; not only is it a human rights crisis for the Indigenous communities living in Alberta and British Columbia, but an environmental disaster of epic proportions.
Many pipelines transport this dirty oil all around North America, and our exports make us the United States' biggest provider of oil. In the last few years, a new extension to a current pipeline has been proposed to carry Tar Sands oil all the way to Texas, putting some of North America's most fragile ecosystems and waterways in serious peril.
Bill McKibben and his team at 350.org helped spearhead a movement called Tar Sands Action (http://www.tarsandsaction.org), enlisting the help of people all over the US and Canada willing to express their dismay and anger about this possible new pipeline.
As of November 6th, thousands of people have risked arrest, standing in front of the White House, as well as Canada's Parliament in Ottawa, to protest.PLEASE SHARE this Thought Bubble by RETWEETING: TWEET: #Canada hates unethical... more-
Eternal Vigilance: Sovereign Immunity - The 11th Amendment Revisited
"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."-- Wendell Phillips, (1811-1884)
"But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government."-- Andrew "Old Hickory" Jackson, 7th President of the USA, Farewell Address, March 4, 1837
Our Founding Fathers were determined to see their hard one liberties survive that nature of man.
In writing our Constitution, one of the 1st things they considered was the historic problem of violent and bloody succession of leaders.
The simple formula is this; the more concentrated the power of a people group, the bloodier the succession. In other words the fewer people who hold a nation’s power the greater the chaos as result of its transfer. It is the simplest economics, many grappling for a consolidated, rare resource and you get blood. The genius of the US founders was their deep insight into history and human nature. They understood this formula and structured the government to avoid this problem. Their solution was so simple it seems surprising. They structured the government to recognize every citizen’s sovereignty and made the leaders servants of those sovereigns. To further hinder the natural tendency for humans to consolidate power, they spread national power to sovereign states, and split the power of the central government to different branches.
In essence they made the resource of national power abundant to all by dispersing it to every citizen sovereign. This created a nation in which a person was empowered to pursue happiness as he/she saw fit and if someone tried to consolidate that power, it was so dispersed it would be difficult to accomplish. http://bit.ly/pnYDAb [Article Continues below almost universal translator]
Tar Sands Debate 1
Many of us, certainly the Canadians among us, have heard the criticisms leveled at the tar sands operations in Alberta, a western Canadian province that is fast becoming the "Saudi" of North America by media standards. In this video, a Syncrude worker presents a reclaimed tar sands site which, they claim, shows the possibility of restoring mining and extraction sites back to functional ecosystems once the operations are finished. Does this mean that the environmental impact is only temporary?
The debate question is this: Are there effective ways to reduce the impact of the oil sands production? If not, then what should be done?Many of us, certainly the Canadians among us, have heard the criticisms leveled at the... more-
Tarballs wash up on Cocoa Beach (Brevard County, Florida)
COCOA BEACH --
A gorgeous day out on the beach in Brevard County turns to worry after tarballs begin washing up.
Brevard County Emergency Management began receiving calls from beachgoers around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday who spotted them in the water in the area near Minuteman Causeway from 3rd Street South down to 6th Street South.
One beach regular said he collected five pounds in a plastic shopping bag in a short amount of time.
“It's like all over the place," said Paul Davis, a Cocoa Beach resident. "I've been picking it up for like half an hour, an hour. Just picking up big pieces, not even chasing the little pieces. But it's sad.”
“We are asking people not to pick up tar if they see it. If they want to pick it up, use a plastic bag to collect it,” said Kimberly Prosser, a Brevard County spokeswoman.
County officials ask anyone seeing tar on the beach to call 211.
Tarballs have washed up on Brevard County beaches over the past few weeks.
Three samples from Satellite Beach, Patrick Air Force Base and Melbourne Beach were sent for Coast Guard testing.
The Satellite Beach sample came back negative as being related to the Gulf oil spill.
The two others are pending.
Ode to Perdido Beach Days
Summer escapes on escapades of slicks next to none
Beach resorts in white sand, crystal coasts in the sun
Hand ball racquet, tennis or high, the beach isn't far
Coastal borders, favorite locales, all now under tar
The aim of the Amish in good faith, takes care of the land
Coastal living along Gulf sands now in dire need a hand
Once feathers plumed in delight, a seabird's playful flair
Feathers now fume amidst oil plumes of surface water flare
Truly memorable, beach goers go, in realms of rig remnant
Amenities abound for the lucky few, who even envy cement
When that oil rig blew we already knew of the environment
Sparkle pools, fluffy wide stretches, and what that all meant
Beach going breeze blowing seas as far as the eye can see
Shrinking glaciers way up north beyond this scope of plea
Drink your pleasure, pool-side treasure, today what will it be?
Beautiful sight but for plumes to fight in morning's futility
Spacious settings, ample time, yes once a nice place to relax
Nations watch this ocean beach march as marshes turn to wax
Unbelievable umbrellas, poets, pelican fellas, now all sideways
Gulls and terns in hopes of a return to old Perdido Beach days
China scientists say cigarette butts protect steel
The remnants of used cigarettes, among the world's most common form of trash, leak chemicals that have been shown to kill fish and damage the environment. The problem could be alleviated if new uses are found for the cigarette butts.
"When people walk on the streets, they usually see cigarette butts scattered everywhere, on the ground or the grass," said Jun Zhao, a Ph.D. student at the Xi'an Jiaotong University, by telephone. "I felt it was quite significant to do a project related to environmental protection."
The study is particularly relevant to China, where about 30 percent of the world's smokers live, a number roughly equal to the entire U.S. population. The country is home to both the world's largest tobacco grower and cigarette producer.
Zhao and other researchers in northwest China said Friday they have found that cigarette butts soaked in water can help guard against corrosion in a type of steel commonly used in the oil industry.
The finding was recently published in the American Chemical Society journal Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research.
Zhao said she started the research after noticing that cigarette butts turn the color of water brown when immersed in it, like the color of antiseptics. "That inspired me to wonder if the two are related," she said.
The researcher started collecting cigarette butts for the project around 18 months ago, picking them up from ashtrays atop roadside trash cans and collecting them from friends whom she had asked to save the butts.
"I have bags and bags of cigarette butts for the project. I have no idea how many of them I have," she said.
Researchers found that extracts of cigarette butt water could substantially protect N80 type steel from corroding when in hydrochloric acid at 90 degrees Celsius (194 degrees F). That type of steel is often used to make drill rods, which costs oil producers millions of dollars annually when they corrode.
A compound material produced from the burning of nicotine and tar is what protects against corrosion, Zhao said, adding she planned to study its effect on preventing rusting in other metals.
The findings are "very convincing," said Guy D. Davis, a materials consultant based in Baltimore, Maryland, with 30 years of experience researching the treatment of surfaces.
Together with another researcher, Davis has previously studied the use of tobacco extracts on steel and aluminum. "Tobacco seems to be one of the best plant-based inhibitors" of corrosion, Davis said.
But using tobacco to guard against metal corrosion has its limitations, Davis said, including that it acts as a nutrient for mold over time and "develops an obnoxious odor."The remnants of used cigarettes, among the world's most common form of trash,... more-
A news release from the group says protesters from Canada, the U.S. and France entered the mine site at 8 a.m. and blockaded the truck and shovel by chaining together pickup trucks.
Two groups of activists then scaled the machines and chained themselves down while a third unveiled a giant banner reading: “Tar Sands: Climate Crime.”
