We had once a story about a Russian guy who has turned the military vehicle into a passenger car. This one is another of that kind, but way bigger, though lacks in the interior beauty. Still they have there now:
1. The mechanical gear stick was replaced with electronic joystick which is connected to electro driven gear box. Now they can switch the gears as easy as on a video game, before one had to have a huge muscle power to switch the gear on that Russian tough thing
2. Disassembled old army seats and put new ones, from the Chrysler minivan.
3. Improved the noise insulation.
4. Changed all the windows to the new ones, more thick, more nice.
5. Installed a rear-view camera and the monitor.
6. Put in a multimedia station, with hi-fi audio, video and wireless headphones for passengers.
Now they can take a ride more safely on Russian roads, and would find their way at any condition, that’s for sure, even on Russian federal highway “Lena”.We had once a story about a Russian guy who has turned the military vehicle into a... more

Be a film critic, have fun and promote driving efficiency!
The Alliance to Save Energy's Drive $marter Challenge campaign launched a video contest in mid-August that produced so many good videos that the judges had problems narrowing it down to just the top 10 finalists.
Now, they’re inviting people to play "film critic," have fun, and determine who wins the $5000 grand prize and three other exciting prizes.
Public voting on 10 short videos aimed at helping to drive smarter, reduce their gas consumption and drive fewer miles begins today (October 5) and runs through Monday, October 19, 11:59 PM (EDT).
To rate the videos (from 1-5 stars), just go to the Drive Smarter Challenge video contest website: http://drivesmarterchallenge.org/contest
Videos are just two minutes or shorter, and you can return to the site if you don't finish rating all 10 in one sitting.Be a film critic, have fun and promote driving efficiency!

Today the Obama Administration released a 1,200 page document of proposed regulation changes that will drastically alter the fuel economy
and emissions standards that auto manufacturers are required to meet in the US. Although it could be an incredibly contentious topic, it seems that so far the proposal has gained wide support from all sides of the spectrum including environmental organizations and industry lobby groups.
The changes — which would alter both the Department of Transportation’s and the Environmental Protection Agency's rules — call for what amounts to about a 5% increase in fuel economy standards per year from 2011 to 2016 starting with 27.3 mpg in 2011 and ending with 35.5 mpg in 2016.Today the Obama Administration released a 1,200 page document of proposed regulation... more

The Drive Smarter Video Contest (http://www.drivesmarterchallenge.org/contest/) invites anyone with a camera to submit a two-minute video illustrating one or more of the Drive Smarter Challenge campaign’s gas- and money-saving tips to compete for a $5,000 grand prize.
The goals of the campaign are to encourage people to drive smarter, reduce their gas consumption and drive fewer miles by combining errands, biking, telecommuting, walking, carpooling, or taking public transit.
The first 80 entrants whose videos meet the contest criteria will receive a $25 ExxonMobil Gift Card and a Car Care Council Car Care Guide. Once the contest judges select the finalists, the public will vote for the winners of these prizes:
• Grand Prize: $5,000
• Second Prize: Choice between one VIP NASCAR Race Package (two tickets and two garage/pit passes to a NASCAR race event) or one VIP Indy Racing League Package (two tickets and two garage/pit lane passes to an Indy race event, plus a ride in a specially modified Indy car driven by a pro driver);
• Third Prize: Whichever prize package hasn’t been selected by the second prize winner (either the VIP NASCAR Race Package or the VIP Indy Racing League Package);
• Fourth Prize: Transportation Efficiency Package: A set of 4 Michelin Energy Saver All Season Tires (or comparable tires for the winner’s vehicle), one-year AAA membership, and two Silver Spoke League of American Bicyclists memberships.

Cars and light trucks sold in July got more miles per gallon than those sold in previous months, say researchers, who credit the Cash for Clunkers program.
The average mileage for new vehicles rose from 21.4 miles per gallon in June to 22.1 mpg in July. That may not sound like much, but it’s the highest mileage that researchers at the University of Michigan have seen since the Environmental Protection Agency reconfigured mileage estimates in October 2007. It’s also the biggest one-month jump.
Study co-author Michael Sivak, a professor at the university’s Transportation Research Institute, noted that the improvement came even as gas prices fell and unemployment levels shrank somewhat. Normally, those factors lead to the purchase of more gas guzzlers.
The higher mileage shows the effect of Cash for Clunkers, said Sivak, who said he expects the jump to be even bigger when August figures come out. That’s because the trade-in rebate program got going only in late July.
The clunkers program gives people trading in certain vehicles up to $4,500 if they increase their mileage by at least 5 to 10 mpg.
A lasting trend showing a large increase in mileage for new cars sold would be unusual for this country.
“We have made very little improvement over 84 years. Therefore, the changes we are seeing now are huge,” Sivak said.
Those are only figures for new cars sold. Most cars on the road are older, and it takes about 20 years for the fleet on the road to turn over completely. The new figures are a first step toward less pollution and less gasoline used, Sivak said.Cars and light trucks sold in July got more miles per gallon than those sold in... more

WASHINGTON July 31, 2009, 01:08 pm ET
The House rushed Friday to pump $2 billion into a popular cash-for-clunkers program running near empty, with a leading Democrat saying "consumers have spoken with their wallets."
A floor vote was under way at midday on the bill to refuel the car-purchase program. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer had said earlier that the additional money would come from funds Congress approved earlier in the year as part of a $787 billion economic stimulus bill.
Hoyer, D-Md., said that at the request of House Republicans — whose approval was required for swift passage — the bill would include provisions for government auditors to make sure the money was being spent as intended.
Republicans argued that Democrats were trying to jam the legislation through.
House Minority Leader John Boehner said it was unclear how many Republicans would support on the plan.
"There are a lot of questions about how the administration administered this program. If they can't handle something as simple as this, how would we handle health care?" the Ohio Republican told The Associated Press.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the cars purchased under the program were much more fuel-efficient than what the bill requires.WASHINGTON July 31, 2009, 01:08 pm ET

The federal government will speed up its timetable for the purchase of roughly 17,600 fuel-efficient vehicles in an effort to help struggling domestic automakers, the White House announced Thursday.
The government will spend $285 million in stimulus funds to purchase the cars before June 1. The accelerated purchase order has been placed exclusively with General Motors, Chrysler and Ford.
"As a part of our commitment to the American auto industry, I charged my administration with using Recovery Act funds to purchase a new fleet of fuel-efficient government vehicles to increase demand for our American auto companies and stimulate the economy," President Obama said in a written statement.
The accelerated purchase "is only a first step, but I will continue to ensure that we are working to support the American auto industry during this difficult period of restructuring."
By April 15, 2,500 hybrid sedans are expected to be ordered, the largest one-time purchase of hybrid vehicles for the federal government's automotive fleet in history, according to the White House.

It took an inventor / innovator (me) to shift Shell into gear with their new "Nitrogen Enriched" fuel. Well, there's no confirmation of this rumor I am spreading, but one never knows.
"The Houston division of Royal Dutch Shell says that nitrogen enhances cleaning elements in Shell gasolines partly by making them more stable at the higher temperatures at which modern engines tend to operate, so the additive can work more effectively in current engines that use technology like fuel injection.
The Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines, formulated to dissolve carbon deposits that can foul up the workings of a car engine, will be spotlighted in ads under Shell's "Passionate Experts" campaign, which launched in 2007. "
The real benefit is that Nitrogen stabilizes the combustion process. Without the presence of nitrogen, the oxidation / combustion process would be extremely violent and destructive to the engine. Nitrogen absorbs the heat generated by the oxidation process (thereby controlling it).
The heated and excited nitrogen molecules are what actually do the work pressing on and pushing the piston down.
I started the post with the intention of drawing other engine designers and engineers into this mindset - for the betterment of society, humanity and the health and well-fare of our planet.
Shell likely labeled their "Nitrogen Enriched" fuel as a manner / method of cleaning deposits in an internal combustion engine to be "patent-ably different" in order to obtain a patent at all - as the significance of "nitrogen" was a matter of public record in the public domain at least at the time of my writing about it. Other's may have written about it prior to me, don't know. Sometimes timeliness is everything.

Scientists have reported recently that the world is heating up even faster than predicted only a few years ago, and that the consequences could be severe if we don't keep reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are trapping heat in our atmosphere. But what can we do about it as individuals? And as emissions from China, India, and other developing nations skyrocket, will our efforts really make any difference?Scientists have reported recently that the world is heating up even faster than... more

President Barack Obama has called for the US to become energy independent, saying its reliance on foreign oil and global warming posed threats.
Outlining his energy priorities, he said the country would not be held "hostage to dwindling resources, hostile regimes, and a warming planet".
He called for greater fuel efficiency and an "energy economy" aimed at creating millions of jobs. He also ordered a review of whether states can set car emission standards.
Mr Obama ordered the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review its refusal of a waiver which had previously allowed California to set its own - stricter - vehicle emission and fuel efficiency standards.
He said California had taken bold moves in implementing the standards. He said: "The days of Washington dragging its heels are over.President Barack Obama has called for the US to become energy independent, saying its... more
