Social conservatives and the GOP: Can this marriage be saved?
by Allan Carlson
03/27/2006, Volume 011, Issue 26
IN THE INTERNAL POLITICS OF the Republican coalition, some members are consistently more equal than others. In particular, where the interests of the proverbial "Sam's Club Republicans" collide with the interests of the great banks, the Sam's Club set might as well pile into the family car and go home.
Consider, to take one recent instance, the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act, enacted last year, after a long delay, with support from congressional Republicans. A controversial clause that would have prevented abortion protesters from filing for bankruptcy to avoid paying court-ordered fines had stalled the measure. After the Senate rejected this provision, GOP leaders drove the bill through both houses of Congress and gained an enthusiastic signature from President George W. Bush.
In a nutshell, the new law makes a "clean start" after filing for bankruptcy much more difficult for families with at least one wage earner. Instead, most affected households will find themselves essentially indentured to a bank or credit card bureau, paying off their debt for years to come. "A new form of feudalism," one critic calls it.
In truth, some had abused the old law, turning repeated bankruptcy filings into a kind of circus. A tightening on this side probably made sense. Significantly, though, the new law made no real changes on the lenders' side, measures that might have reined in an increasingly predatory credit industry. It is common knowledge, for example, that credit card companies intentionally urge financially troubled families to borrow still more money, because they can charge these households exorbitant interest rates. As one Citibank executive has candidly observed, "They are the ones who provide most of our profit." Late payment fees, another favored industry device, reportedly deliver over 30 percent of credit card financing revenue. Assurances by lawmakers that the new law will bring credit card interest rates down fly in the face of these more fundamental corporate strategies.
True, in the context of America's new debt-driven economy, this treatment of financially troubled families may constitute "good business" (even if under older ethical standards it's the equivalent of offering a barrel of whiskey to an alcoholic). More fundamentally, though, the GOP's opting for an outcome that's good for Citibank's profits while disregarding the effects on families should cause no surprise.

Requesting Change begins with holding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to the intent of Title IV-D Welfare.
Preventing the States from using Title IV-D welfare to generate revenues is essential for program success and is required for States to focus on providing a safety-net for needy families. Improved administration and legislation that limits Title IV-D incentives for increasing the number of broken homes will keep over participation problems from plaguing Title IV-D and allow States to focus on needy families.
Find here my letter to Dr. Wade Horn requesting both administrative controls and legislative modifications of the program to be put into place.
To see Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund's endorsement click this link. A list of additional supporters and endorsements will be provided at a later time.
The Federal Government needs to bring Title IV-D back into compliance with its original intent (recuperate money expended through TANF/AFDC) and improve the program for needy families not streamline it for state revenue generation by preventing children substantially the same access to both parents.
If your organization wants to endorse this effort, you may fax your endorsement or letter of support to 989-764-5920 addressed to Dr. Wade Horn stating that "Our organization supports the proposed modifications of Title IV-D requested on July 17, 2006") Others are already circulating this effort in Washington D.C.
Remember, Title IV-D in 2006 amounts to over $4.2 BILLION dollars out of your Social Security for the inclusion of the wealthy and middle-class into this welfare program. The program currently rewards States for preventing children from having equal access to both parents and conflicts with Healthy Marriages and two responsible parents. It's time to get real and fix this drastic social and economic problem created by Title IV-D. Social Security, Welfare, and Child Support Enforcement
How federal welfare funding drives judicial discretion in child-custody determinations and domestic relations matters.
By Lary Holland and Jason Bottomley
February 2006
Introduction
There is a growing pandemic in this country where the very fabric of our society, the family, is being attacked and destroyed. Our children are systematically being torn away from willing and capable parents who want to be involved in parenting their children. Families are systematically being torn apart instead of being helped when they turn to the states' family courts to solve domestic relations disputes. This document demonstrates an attempt to trace this problem back to its source.
The topics and issues being discussed are quite complex because of the nature of the multiple welfare programs created within Title IV of the Social Security Act (SSA); so the authors have attempted to provide a simplified overview of how federal welfare funding motivates the state family court judges to remove a willful parent and create high child support orders.
The authors have spent a tremendous amount of time researching external economic factors that they believe drive judicial discretion and influence professional judgment in domestic relations matters. Through their research and experience, the authors have concluded that a relationship exists between the federal funding of state welfare programs and the determinations made by state family court judges presiding over child-custody and domestic relations matters. They believe that it is this relationship that de-emphasizes the importance of sharing parental responsibility, and instead emphasizes a manufactured public policy concerned only on the financial obligations of one parent - rather than on the real interests of the children involved.
The authors have also concluded that, while this relationship has successfully been masked behind what is commonly termed "the best interests of the child," the federal funding created within the Social Security Act provides clear monetary incentives to states that have a high-occurrence of one-parent households, where a child has the majority of access to only one of their parents. The authors believe that this "best interests of the child" standard is loosely subjective, gives unlimited discretion to state family court judges, and ultimately leaves a tremendous amount of room for abuse.
In simplest terms: State family courts are forcibly depriving children's access to a parent because it is a source of revenue for the states - and because they can.

I don't want to talk to my daughter about sex. Ever.
I just want to sit on the porch with a shotgun and chase the boys away.
But it's not that simple for fathers, says Patrick Wanis, a Miami human-behavior expert who has a doctorate in health psychology and hypnosis.
In 2006, teen pregnancies rose for the first time in 15 years, and Wanis states in bold terms that the increase can be blamed on absent fathers and fathers who fail to play an active role in bringing up their daughters.
Studies from researchers at the University of Arizona, University of Texas-Austin and Wake Forest University all indicate girls who have positive relationships with their fathers wait longer to have their first sexual encounter.
With an estimated 60 percent of U.S. girls spending at least part of their childhood without a father in the home, the need for dads is increasing. And divorce shouldn't interfere with their role.
Wanis said fathers can help form daughters' self-image, self-esteem and self-confidence, and teach them discipline, morals and values.
"Dads need to spend more time with their daughters, ask more questions, express sincere interest, listen attentively and openly express love and affection," Wanis said.
As the father of a 6-year-old girl, I'm a few years away from this stage. But wow, I can't believe I have to do all that. What about mom? Wanis isn't diminishing a mother's role, but he said that contrary to popular belief, mom shouldn't simply take over when the daughter becomes a teen.
Wanis and other experts argue fathers should be completely involved, including in one-on-one activities.
In fact, he says it's imperative for fathers to have that potentially difficult conversation about what teenage boys really want from girls in terms of sex. "They can explain it in a way that mom can't, to let daughter know that for boys teen sex is about conquest, fun and adventure; while for girls, teen sex is about expressing love and affection," Wanis said.
Wanis suggests that dads tell their daughters they were girl-crazed bums just like the knuckleheads coming around today. I thought I would tell her I always sought out inner beauty and sparkling personalities and limited my interaction to holding hands.
"You have to tell her you made mistakes and you learned from those mistakes," Wanis said. "Don't pretend you're perfect, because they're going to find out you're not."
Serious consequences exist for fathers who don't engage their daughters.
Not only are teen girls more apt to become pregnant, but they are more likely to date older men, use drugs and engage in risky behaviors that result in sexually transmitted diseases.
Poor father-daughter relationships also can result in adult women entering into negative relationships.
The problems are more pronounced in the African-American community, where father absence is higher.
Wanis said single mothers should try to find a father figure, but cautioned that they should choose carefully.
All of this is a lot to digest. My current role is showing up for cheerleading practice and playing the "Camp Rock" CD.
But I guess if my daughter is going to end up with a good man, I have to be a good man for her right now.
Ernest Hooper writes for the St. Petersburg Times.

Parental Alienation symptoms describe the child's behaviors and attitude towards the targeted parent after the child has been effectively programmed and severely alienated from the targeted parent. Parental Alienation, on the other hand, describes the alienating parent's or parents' conduct which induces Parental Alienation Syndrome in children.
Parental Alienation is heartbreaking and devastating to say the least. My name is Tawnya Maddox and I have experienced the full effects of being a targeted parent and know first hand what feelings and emotions, along with the pain and anguish that is associated with being alienated from my children. I am a mother and a victim, but most of all my three children are victim's. There is no greater pain to a child than there is with the loss of a parent and sometimes both. My story is not much different than the many other stories. I have decided to no longer accept being a victim or to allow my children, other parents and their children to be victimized by this abuse.

"The [above] matter [of atrocities, Due Process Violations, criminal
and fraudulent activities] is before the United States Congress".
(Authorized Statement)
We are seeking and demanding that Perpetrators of such Criminal Misconduct and Human Rights atrocities be prosecuted.
In the US, an enormous number of children are kidnapped by the state courts, in conspiracy with county prosecutors and higher state judiciaries, and given to one parent (overwhelmingly to females) in order to collect extortion “incentive” kickback money ($Billions annually) from the willingly defrauded and colluding federal government (social engineering). In a vast majority of these cases, the children are abused and suffer, with the knowledge and often participation of the said judiciary, from “Stockholm Syndrome” due to perpetration of “Parental Alienation” in “Hostile [and unlawful] Custody Environment” just so that the states, their courts, judiciaries and county prosecutors get their share of the kidnap (“incentive”) money and ransom.
For example, in the corrupt State of Indiana , courts which participate in and perpetrate (in conflict of interest ?!) such atrocities and abuse upon children and their victimized “Non-Custodial” Parents get 22.2% of the kidnap money, counties' general budget get 22.2% and the county prosecutors who enforce these unlawful and unconstitutional kidnap orders under Title IV-D (42 U.S.C. 651, et seq.), get 33.4% of the kidnap (extortion) money.
For a greater understanding and in non-legal language, read this cold (without the individual drama and heartache of the hundreds of thousands of lives, families and children it has destroyed), detailed and illuminating Title IV-D account (“MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL”, By Paul M. Clements, July 2008) of the institutionalized fraud and deception nationwide indicating the depth of shame, disgrace, moral depravity and bankruptcy and criminality the United States knowingly and deliberately has sunk to for greed and control upon fathers, mothers and their children using “mothers” as its tool of implementation of such criminal and human rights atrocity against families under its jurisdiction.
IS YOUR CHILD NEXT TO BE KIDNAPPED FROM YOU BY THE STATE AND ITS COURTS, AIDED AND ABETTED BY US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND ITS AGENCIES, FOR PROFIT ???

Contested child custody provides many challenges for alternate dispute resolution. With no-fault divorce, and a standard for determining custody in light of the child's best interest, judges are besieged with a backlog of disputed custody cases without clear and concrete guidelines to follow in deciding whether to favor the mother or the father. Many experts in family law - both from the legal and mental health arenas - have observed an increase in deceptive and manipulative tactics used by divorcing couples. This paper looks at Parental Alienation Syndrome, which is a complex manifestation of mental and emotional abuse resulting from conflicted parents fighting for custody. Recommendation are given for a model that could be employed by family law mediators that could decrease the number of custody cases that go to litigation, while ensuring that families suffering from Parental Alienation Syndrome receive prompt and effective intervention.

The Evening Standard reports that a boy has been 'given' two fathers in a landmark Court of Appeal ruling which declares there is "no limit" to the number of parents a child can have.
The country's most senior family court judge, Sir Mark Potter, decided that a man who brought up the boy believing him to be his own child was entitled to parental rights - even though he has turned out not be the father.
The ruling means that the child now effectively has two fathers and that the person who raised him, referred to only as Mr A, has the same rights as the boy's biological parent.
In addition to granting Mr A parental rights, the judge added that it was possible for a child to have any number of parents and that parental rights should be determined both by the role a person played in a child's life and by biology.
What do you think? How many parents should a child have? How can more than two parents juggle all the decision-making for their child? And who would have the casting vote!?

If you deny your children access to TV or withhold their allowance, can they take you to court? And win?
That implausible scenario emerged after a judge in Gatineau sided with a 12-year-old girl who challenged her father after he refused to let her go on a school trip for disobeying his orders to stay off the Internet.
Experts in family law and child welfare say they were dumbfounded by last Friday's ruling by Superior Court Justice Suzanne Tessier.

I have chosen not to vaccinate my children and have been scoffed at by some medical professionals not to mention some other parents while being praised by others. Now this is coming from the candidates are vaccines safe for our children in the quantizes that we as Americans administer them? The first vaccine is given within hours of birth Hep B, then at the first office visit 5 different vaccines are given to the newborn baby before their own immune system is fully developed, are we going overboard as Americans usually do. I tend to think of the standard vaccine schedule like the SUV of medical prevention, Bigger, better more more more. What do you think. this is done in America as a routine procedure. The decision is made with little or no education for parents on the matter. Expectant parents are given little information on the affects of circumcision. Most people actually think it is necessary. why do you think circumcision is so acceptable in our society? Is it just yet another way for doctors to dig in our pockets? Is it really "Safe" for babies. what do you think a baby goes through emotionally after this act has been done to them?
