I am so excited that an all new season of SuperNews! is launching this Thursday night at 11pm!
This is a sneak peek from this week's episode. Watch as Emoticons Have Cybersex.
Don’t miss the season premiere of SuperNews! this Thursday night at 11/10 central as part of Current’s “Thursday Night Block Party.” Look forward to eight half-hour episodes where the absurdities of everyday life will be pushed beyond reality in a hilarious universe of animated characters.
This season will bring back fan favorites, including technology obsessed office workers Craig and Darren, the beleaguered Obama administration, the self-obsessed hipsters and continued scathing satires of today’s political, pop-culture, and infamous figures.
“Season two is smarter, faster and more dangerous than ever with topical cartoons about Obama’s war with right wing media, America’s obsession with Vampires and Google’s Orwellian knowledge about everything you do,” said Josh Faure-Brac, “SuperNews!” creator.

So it's true, I called up Andrew Fitzgerald and asked him about what happens when the G-20 takes more power over the G-8. He wrote a blog post explaining it:
It’s good news for the leaders of the 12 countries that now get to sit at the big kids table (is more or less what I told him). So does that answer what the protestors are asking for? he asked. Well, I don’t think so. G-20s (or G-any number) and protests go hand in hand these days. As part of their preparations for hosting world leaders, cities also prepare to host thousands or protesters with nearly as many different causes. Why protest these events (which are otherwise pretty bland)? Is it having all those world leaders in one place? It’s come to seem almost like a script, world leaders discuss, protesters clash with police, and no one anywhere really talks about what the protesters are opposed to.
I tried to pay attention on the phone, but then someone IM'd me a picture of a cat playing Scrabble, so I pretty much did not absorb any of the info he told me.
(This is a picture of that cat playing scrabble.)

Scammers will say and do anything to get a person to part with their money. At first they had a sob story that sounded like a legitimate issue, new housing, can’t have a pet. When posted in a classified ad, it looks legitimate. Then they involved a “shipping company” that was a front for the scam. Once the victims were asked to send money via Western Union, that should have been a red-flag.

We are observing an incredible rise in cybercrime. New profiles of attackers arrived in the so-called hacking underground, and the hacking world – sometimes – is meeting with organized crime and State-sponsored attacks. The world is changing and, basically, the keyword is the information. In today’s world Information is the Power that’s the sole reason why all of this is happening.

Ethical hackers are the tech industries white nights, also known as white hat hackers. Steve Stasiukonis from Secure Network Technologies is such a person, hired by by companies CIO’s to penetrate an organizations network to determine where its vulnerabilities are. The process of a white hat starts with a permission based hack that often leads to results that make the CIO nauseous. In Dark Reading Steve writes about how he did it with a fake badge and a Facebook profile…

The Boston Channel reports a Lynn couple was accused of selling the identities of at least 16 Transportation Security Administration workers at Logan International Airport. Police said the ID data was allegedly taken by a female TSA contract worker who is related to one of the two Lynn suspects. A TSA spokesman said the agency takes the ID theft very seriously. The hacker I contacted immediately returned my email. I told him I was a journalist and wanted to do a story on him. I couldn’t have been more upfront with my intentions. I even provided him my website, but that didn’t seem to matter. He just wanted my money. First he wanted me to open up my IM and connect with him via his Yahoo email. That way we could chat. But I wasn’t about to let him in via IM because there are known hacks that can allow a bad guy into your IM then onto your PC. So I set up a private chat at tinychat…

In this day and age, most large companies monitor your tweets, email, IM and voip messages, sent from their network, for insurance and HR reasons. This surveillance typically includes employee information on public profiles and social networks. This is legal in most states and rarely mentioned in employee manuals or other company documentation.
And now, this cell phone application monitors photos of the workplace, keystroke events, when workers are checking in and out, latest work memos and their billing status (profitability).
I know, few people have anything to hide, however... I think this is an issue about privacy and how new technology used by corporations is affecting it.
By the way, the company who made this application is backed by Benchmark Capital to the tune of $29 million. They also back Twitter, AOL, Linden Lab, Yelp, Ebay, Art.com & Mint, Among others. In this day and age, most large companies monitor your tweets, email, IM and voip... more

Remember that poll we posted yesterday about the two couples who embarked on a daily sex regimen to add the spice back into their love life? I was surprised to see the overwhelming support behind this idea (so far, over half of you are game!) and decided to quiz the guys on my IM as well. I expected them to be even more gung ho about the idea—after all, what guy doesn’t seem to want a roll in the hay at least once a day?—and was surprised to see them respond, well, the way I expected you ladies to. Ian Goldberg, leading security researcher, professor at the University of Waterloo, and co-creator of the Off-the-Record Messaging (OTR) protocol recently gave a talk on protecting your IM conversations. He discusses OTR and its importance in today's world of warrant-less wire tapping. OTR users benefit from being able to have truly private conversations over IM by using encryption to obtain authentication, deniability, and perfect forward secrecy, while working within their existing IM infrastructure. With the recent NSA wiretapping activities and increasing Big Brother presence, security and OTR are increasingly important. An avi of the talk is available by http as well as by bittorrent and a bunch of other formats.
