Every day millions of Christians pray to be spared from being put to the test. For some in Uganda, where an anti-homosexuality bill (pdf) is being put to parliament, this prayer may be especially deeply felt. This extremely unpleasant proposed law targets not only lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people but also human rights and Aids prevention activists and people in positions of trust.Every day millions of Christians pray to be spared from being put to the test. According to the Times Online, 400,000 former Anglicans are willing to embrace Catholicism under the apostolic constitution announced by Pope Benedict XVI. The Pope's decision to allow Anglicans to join into full communion with Roman Catholics while retaining elements of their Anglican identity is a cynical move to bolster the roles of the Catholic church. In short, the Pope is inviting the most intolerant of Anglicans: the sexist, the misogynist, the homophobic, into the Catholic church.According to the Times Online, 400,000 former Anglicans are willing to embrace... more

"ROME, Italy (CNN) -- The Vatican said Tuesday it has worked out a way for groups of Anglicans who are dissatisfied with their faith to join the Catholic Church.
The process will allow groups of Anglicans, including bishops and married priests, to join the Catholic Church some 450 years after King Henry VIII broke from Rome and created the Church of England."
People shouldn't forget, but probably should remember that in the year 1213, King John I ceded Great Britain to the Pope. Now, very quietly they are taking it back. Can't have a 1 world government without a 1 world religion.
People really need to learn about the the Holy Roman Empire, Archbishop of Canterbury, apostolic succession, the so-called Dark Ages, and feudalism. There is no indication that these people will ever stop until they control the world. I've read the texts; you can too.
"we, wishing to humiliate ourselves for Him who humiliated Himself for us unto death...do offer and freely concede to God...and to our mother the holy Roman church, and to our lord pope Innocent and to his Catholic successors, the whole kingdom of England and the whole kingdom Ireland, with all their rights and appurtenances, for the remission of our own sins and of those of our whole race as well for the living as for the dead;..we perform and swear fealty for them to him our aforesaid lord pope Innocent, and his catholic successors and the Roman church."

August 15 marks the end of the Blessed Virgin Mary's earthly life and the assumption of her body and soul into heaven.
We all have read about the many sightings of the Holy Mother over the years, but what do you do when an image of her miraculously appears in a glass you once used for coffee? Share it with others!
With the recent downturn in the economy many of us are in need of a miracle. Then again, we're always in need of miracles, or at least in need of proof that miracles are possible. What is a miracle?
Many people that have seen this glass in person, have described themselves as getting chills and having the hair on the back of their necks stand up. Others have commented on the bluish hue (aura) that can be clearly seen surrounding the image.

The last published statistics for 2006/7 show rises of 7 and 5 per cent in church going at Christmas and Easter.
But these figures are just about the only signs of hope for the church and certainly not the first green shoots of a revival. Other statistics make for gloomy reading.
In the short term we are likely to see more closures of buildings as the church battles to meet a big pension bill, pay clergy, and maintain a large bureaucracy.
At present the church is struggling to maintain 16,200 buildings, many of them old and listed with 4,200 listed Grade I.
If decline continues, Christian Research has estimated that in five years' time church closures will accelerate from their present rate of 30 a year to 200 a year as dwindling congregations find the cost of keeping them open too great.
Perhaps the most worrying set of statistics for the Church of England is the decline in baptisms. Out of every 1,000 live births in England in 2006/7 only 128 were baptised as Anglicans.
At present church leaders show little signs of understanding the situation. They don't understand the culture we now live in.
Many bishops prefer to turn their heads, to carry on as if nothing has changed, rather than face the reality that Britain is no longer a Christian nation. The last published statistics for 2006/7 show rises of 7 and 5 per cent in church... more

Traditionalist Anglicans have formally announced that they are setting up a new church in the US and Canada.
The new Anglican Church in North America claims 100,000 worshippers, in four dioceses and dozens of parishes.
It means in each country there are now two competing churches, both claiming allegiance to the Anglican Communion.
The American Church's liberal stance on homosexuality has led some traditionalists, including some whole dioceses, to leave the Church.
They have instead formed a range of new alliances, often with Churches in Africa.
The move will reduce the rolls of the US Episcopal Church, which has 2.1 million members, and the Anglican Church of Canada, which has 640,000 members.
The status of church property in the four breakaway dioceses - Fort Worth in Texas, Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, Quincy in Illinois and San Joaquin in California - will have to renegotiated.Traditionalist Anglicans have formally announced that they are setting up a new church... more

Breakaway Episcopalians are preparing to form a new Anglican Church in North America.
A church constitution, to be unveiled December 3 at Wheaton College near Chicago, would unite some 100,000 disaffected former Episcopalians who now adhere to various conservative Anglican archbishops abroad. Rev. Daryl Fenton says breakaway Episcopalians will soon unveil a new church constitution.
"What's being planned is the organizing of a new Anglican Church in the U.S. that will be related to the rest of the worldwide Anglican Communion, and that will distinguish itself from the Episcopal Church in the U.S. by virtue of its holding to historic doctrines of the faith," he explains.
The Anglican alternative to the U.S. Episcopal Church would likely be led by Pittsburgh Bishop Robert Duncan, the leader of one of four dioceses that have seceded because of differences over biblical authority and interpretation. The consecration of an openly homosexual Episcopal bishop in 2003 has alienated the U.S. branch of the Anglican Communion from its own conservatives and from Anglicans abroad.
The new church is expected to be recognized by several Anglican bishops. However, church leaders do not expect the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, to officially accept the church.

The Rt Rev Catherine Roskam, Suffragan Bishop of New York, said domestic violence is deemed acceptable in some parts of the world and that "even the most devout Christians" are guilty of it.
She said some of the 670 Anglican bishops gathered in Canterbury for the once-a-decade Lambeth Conference probably beat their wives, and added that it is difficult to discuss it with them because they do not believe it is wrong.
Her comments have been condemned as outrageous and untrue, and a further example of the condescending attitude of western Anglicans to those in developing countries.
In the article in the Lambeth Witness, a newsletter produced daily during the meeting by the gay campaign group Inclusive Church Network, Bishop Roskam said: "We have 700 men here.
"Do you think any of them beat their wives? Chances are they do. The most devout Christians beat their wives.
"Culturally, many of our bishops come from places where it is culturally accepted to beat your wife. In that regard, it makes the conversation quite difficult." The Rt Rev Catherine Roskam, Suffragan Bishop of New York, said domestic violence is... more

Sir Ian McKellen, best known for playing the staff-wielding wizard Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films, has today spoken out at what he called the Anglican church's "problem with homphobia".
That's putting it mildly Ian.
The actor, who is a founding member of the gay rights group Stonewall, listed the church, along with the armed forces and schools, as institutions with outdated attitudes towards homosexuality.
Rather than having a purely scriptural objection, he believes Anglicans start out with an agenda against gay people, and then "root around in the Bible" for passages which could be interpreted as condemning homosexuality.
McKellen, himself an atheist, made the comments alongside Gene Robinson, the first openly gay person to be ordained as a Bishop. Sir Ian McKellen, best known for playing the staff-wielding wizard Gandalf in the Lord... more

Answering quesions from journalists during his flight to Australia, Pope Benedict XVI was asked about the recent divisions within the Anglican church. He responded: "I am praying so that there are no more schisms and fractures", referring to the recent turmoil regarding the church's acceptance of the ordination of female Bishops, and gay marriages.
However he did not comment on the rights and wrongs of the dispute, saying he did not wish to "interfere" in the debate. This is despite a recent statement from the Vatican that ordaining women as Bishops "will be an obstacle to its reconcilliation with the Roman Catholic Church."Answering quesions from journalists during his flight to Australia, Pope Benedict XVI... more

A new church representing almost half of the world's 80 million Anglicans has been officially formed, posing a serious challenge to the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The organisation created by traditionalists - called the Gafcon movement after the Global Anglican Future Conference which led to its creation - will retain ties with Dr Rowan Williams and will technically remain within the global Anglican Communion.
But it is also likely to lead to orthodox Anglicans severing all links with the main churches in America and Canada, whose liberal leaders are blamed for sparking the current crisis by breaking with the Bible's teaching and by consecrating openly gay clergy and blessing gay "marriages".
The movement's leaders will include at least two Church of England bishops as well as the heads of leading African, South American and Australian churches, and it is said to represent 35 million worshippers worldwide and so spell an end to the "colonial" domination of Canterbury

Conservative Anglicans meeting in Jerusalem will create a global network to combat modern trends in the Church like the ordination of gay clergy.
The group has also decided to break its relationship with the liberal wings of the US and Canadian Churches.
It will operate independently of the Archbishop of Canterbury, but will stay inside the Anglican Communion.
The traditionalists say they are fighting a "false Gospel" and the rift in the Church cannot be patched up.
After five years of trying unsuccessfully to get the American church expelled for its ordination of an openly gay bishop and blessing of same-sex relationships in church, the traditionalists say the international alliance will emphasise a more orthodox reading of the Bible.Conservative Anglicans meeting in Jerusalem will create a global network to combat... more

A group of conservative Anglicans have decided to create a new global network in opposition to what they see as the "false gospel" interpreted by modern Anglicans; particularly in the 'liberal' wings of the US and Canadian Churches.
The controversy largely surrounds the issue of same sex marriages in Anglican churches, and the ordination in the US of an openly gay bishop. The conservatives are advocating "a more orthodox reading of the bible", and will form the new group today: the last day of the "Global Anglican Future Conference" being held in Jerusalem.
The 'reform group', chaired by Reverend Rod Thomas, have long criticised the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, over his unwillingness to act over the US Episcopal Church's ordination of openly gay Bishop Gene Robinson, in 2003. Rev. Thomas accused the Anglican Church, lead by Dr. Williams, "is being destroyed by false teaching of the Bible on issues such as sexuality". However the conservatives are quick to point out that this rift is not specifically about homosexuality, but simply how Anglicans should interpret the Bible.
Rev. Thomas also disagrees with what he says is the US Episcopal Church's suggestion that Jesus Christ is not the only way to salvation, saying that " there is nothing in the Bible which supports that view."

On May 4th Imam Hamid Slimi made history as the first imam to speak at a Neighbourhood Interfaith Group dinner.
The annual dinner was hosted by Yorkminster Park Baptist Church. Beauchamp, who is an Anglican, said he encourages people of all the different faiths to sit together on the same table to encourage dialogue.
The Moroccon-born imam spoke about Islam and its beliefs:
“Islam is very simple. There’s one God in heaven and God is merciful,” he said. “There is this unfavourable thinking of Islam and Muslims. I can’t deny that there are extreme thoughts – it happens in every religion.”
The imam dispelled the myth that all Muslims are taught to hate the Jewish people:
“Everyone is loved by God,” he said. “I grew up in a district where we had Jews and Christians. We were never taught to hate [them.] The prophet said that [Muslims] can marry Jews and Christians, who are the people of the Book.”
Rabbi Schild reminded them all their have something in common:
“We’re all citizens of Canada...In Canada, people with different ethnicities and religions can live together in harmony.”
