Saudis give nod to Israeli raid on Iran
Saudis give nod to Israeli raid on Iran
Uzi Mahnaimi in Tel Aviv and Sarah Baxter
The head of Mossad, Israel’s overseas intelligence service, has assured Benjamin Netanyahu, its prime minister, that Saudi Arabia would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets flying over the kingdom during any future raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.
Earlier this year Meir Dagan, Mossad’s director since 2002, held secret talks with Saudi officials to discuss the possibility.
The Israeli press has already carried unconfirmed reports that high-ranking officials, including Ehud Olmert, the former prime minister, held meetings with Saudi colleagues. The reports were denied by Saudi officials.
“The Saudis have tacitly agreed to the Israeli air force flying through their airspace on a mission which is supposed to be in the common interests of both Israel and Saudi Arabia,” a diplomatic source said last week.
Although the countries have no formal diplomatic relations, an Israeli defence source confirmed that Mossad maintained “working relations” with the Saudis.

Because people need to think twice about these sorts of things... It's more than just us against them and their culture, and, um, treating women like crap. Our economy is dependant on not doing anything about this.

If a rape victim in the U.S. happened to rob a bank afterward, would s/he be imprisoned for the robbery despite the rape? Does the U.S. legal system take into account context when sentencing for crimes? If a rape victim in the U.S. happened to rob a bank afterward, would s/he be... more

This is a story out of Saudi Arabia where a women was gang raped by 7 men and she bravely came forward to tell the police and her rapists were jailed. The reason this story was so outrageous is because the woman was initially jailed and sentenced to 19 lashes because she was with an unrelated male (who was also gang raped) shortly before the rape. This story should be deeply affecting everyone. The girl was only 19 years old and if her age does not make it even worse its that she is not being protected by her own government. This case represents a story that definetly shows the problems and isues that face young women in Saudi Arabia.

Over the weekend, the Saudi Justice Ministry upheld the sentence of 6 months in jail and 200 lashings for a girl they convicted of violating the sex segregation laws who was raped by 7 men. The ministry had also condemned foreign "interference" in the case due to the widespread international uproar the sentencing caused.
But now, Prince Saud al-Faisal, the foreign minister in Annapolis, MD for the Mideast peace talks, is saying the Saudi Judiciary will review the sentencing, though again expressing displeasure at the amount of international pressure the government has received in the case.Over the weekend, the Saudi Justice Ministry upheld the sentence of 6 months in jail... more

Politically, we can't nor should we do anything, conflict will only beget conflict. In the event of the Saudi Arabia rape victim, morally women should have the SAME EXACT rights of every other man. To be honest, the difference between a man and a woman is just two tiny hormones, en yet there is prejudice that exists between the two. I don't hate my fellow neighbor for his haircut, in the same regards, I don't demoralize women for being defined at birth the way they were. I do also wish to assert that no man, should be defined as a "Man" whilst lacking respect for others, to me that exudes incompetence and immaturity.
Morally, it makes me feel horrible, but there's so much death in the world right now that the news of conflict or genocide in one continent is completely independent of all the others, genocide and AIDS in Africa, population control in China, insubordination control in North Korea, French Youth Riots, Indian genocide, then theres the Middle East, where theres Bombings for anti-semitism, genocide, nationalism.
As an Atheist, I find it idiotic to bomb and kill people for religion. There's no proof of a God, higher being, or anything else for that matter that you can prove from that scripture, but you still go to Church(Temple, Mosque) right? As a resource I direct your attention to the psychology behind religion, http://hypnosiscontrol.com/the-psychology-behind-cultsreligion/
On a finishing note, I don't think people realize the amount of hatred I receive just for being an atheist, George HW Bush once said that he wanted all atheists out of the country, and George W Bush can be quoted similarly. I never thought it to be possible but there are actually people that are antisemitic towards atheists, which is actually a double negative and by word Calculus it would come to a product of something positive, like a theist, or being semitic, but those aren't valid answers, so it would be an undefined value right? I guess no one has come up with a word for it. Heres a few more points of interest: http://picsyard.com/ATHEISTS_GET_THE_HELL_OUT_OF_AMERICA

The White House's statement:
(from http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gfhK3pVJTKbzUxStaPMbgzEFM3TA )
The White House on Monday denounced in unusually harsh terms a Saudi sentence against a woman who was gang-raped and openly hoped that the verdict would change upon appeal.
"I don't think it matters if you're a female or a male. I think that the situation is very discouraging and outrageous," spokeswoman Dana Perino said when asked about the woman's sentence of six months in jail and 200 lashes.
"There is an appeals process, and we hope that the verdict changes. It is certainly not consistent with the judicial reforms that the Saudis have said that they would undertake," she said.
Hillary's statement:
"I urge President Bush to call on King Abdullah to cancel the ruling and drop all charges against this woman," Senator Clinton said.
"As president I will once again make human rights an American priority around the world."The White House's statement:

this article contains her testimony:
"I was 19 years old. I had a relationship with someone on the phone. We were both 16. I had never seen him before. I just knew his voice.
He started to threaten me, and I got afraid. He threatened to tell my family about the relationship. Because of the threats and fear, I agreed to give him a photo of myself.
A few months later, I asked him for the photo back but he refused. I had gotten married to another man. He said, 'I'll give you the photo on the condition that you come out with me in my car.' I told him we could meet at a market near my neighborhood city plaza in Qatif.
He started to drive me home. We were 15 minutes from my house. I told him that I was afraid and that he should speed up. We were about to turn the corner to my house when another car stopped right in front of our car.
Two people got out of their car and stood on either side of our car. The man on my side had a knife. They tried to open our door. I told the individual with me not to open the door, but he did.
He let them come in. I screamed. One of the men brought a knife to my throat. They told me not to speak. They pushed us to the back of the car and started driving.
We drove a lot, but I didn't see anything since my head was forced down. They took us to an area with lots of palm trees. No one was there. If you kill someone there, no one would know about it. They took out the man with me, and I stayed in the car.
I was so afraid. They forced me out of the car. They pushed me really hard...Took me to a dark place.
Then two men came in. They said, 'What are you going to do? Take off your abaya.' They forced my clothes off. The first man with the knife raped me. I was destroyed. If I tried to escape, I didn't even know where I would go.
I tried to force them off but I couldn't. Another man came in and did the same thing to me. I didn't even feel anything after that.
I spent two hours begging them to take me home. I told them that it was late and that my family would be asking about me.
Then I saw a third man come into the room. There was a lot of violence. After the third man came in, a fourth came. He slapped me and tried to choke me.
The fifth and sixth ones were the most abusive. After the seventh one, I couldn't feel my body anymore. I didn't know what to do. Then a very fat man came on top of me and I could no longer breathe.
Then all seven came back and raped me again. Then they took me home. When I got out of the car, I couldn't even walk. I rang the doorbell and my mother opened the door.
She said 'you look tired.' I didn't eat for one week after that, just water. I didn't tell anyone. I went to the hospital the next day. The criminals started talking about the rape in my neighborhood.
They thought my husband would divorce me. They wanted to ruin my reputation.
Slowly my husband started to know what had happened. Four months later, we started a case. My family heard about the case. My brother hit me and tried to kill me."this article contains her testimony:

I have to comment that it is a strange world where one nation can punish a woman for getting raped and another country (like this one) can have people who seek out rape.
Follow the link for an example. Don't think that is an isolated post either. You'll find people all over posting ads that they want to be raped (or play-raped) every day in cities all over.

An appeal court in Saudi Arabia has doubled the number of lashes and added a jail sentence as punishment for a woman who was gang-raped.
The victim was initially punished for violating laws on segregation of the sexes - she was in an unrelated man's car at the time of the attack.
When she appealed, the judges said she had been attempting to use the media to influence them.
The attackers' sentences - originally of up to five years - were doubled.
According to the Arab News newspaper, the 19-year-old woman, who is from Saudi Arabia's Shia minority, was gang-raped 14 times in an attack in the eastern province a year-and-a-half ago.
Seven men from the majority Sunni community were found guilty of the rape and sentenced to prison terms ranging from just under a year to five years.
But the victim was also punished for violating Saudi Arabia's laws on segregation that forbid unrelated men and women from associating with each other. She was initially sentenced to 90 lashes for being in the car of a strange man.
On appeal, the Arab News reported that the punishment was not reduced but increased to 200 lashes and a six-month prison sentence.
The rapists also had their prison terms doubled. But the sentences are still low considering they could have faced the death penalty.
The Arab News quoted an official as saying the judges had decided to punish the girl for trying to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media.
The victim's lawyer was suspended from the case, has had his licence to work confiscated, and faces a disciplinary session.

The Saudi Justice Ministry said the young woman deserved 200 lashes and six months in prison, even though she had been raped, because she was guilty of illegal mingling sitting in a car with a man who was not related to her.
Two hundred lashes for a woman who was raped, under any circumstances in even the most traditional country, is barbaric period. But what also keeps tripping off my tongue is this phrase illegal mingling. It seems to me that if the Middle East could use more of anything these days it is more mingling if not between the sexes then at least between the sects.
