Rick Santorum is out with a bold, new ad in which he paints Mitt Romney as the "establishment" choice that is being force fed to Republicans this primary season, and warns conservatives they should not "blindly" follow Romney right into the nomination.

HUDDLE SCOOPLET: ALAN GRAYSON, AD MAN: Don't expect him to start taking three-martini lunches with the cast of Mad Men quite yet, but a tipster tells Huddle that Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) writes the scripts for his own television commercials. Aside from the novelty, why would that matter? Grayson's currently embroiled in a controversy over an ad in which he refers to his challenger as 'Taliban Dan' Webster. 'Wives, submit to your own husbands' and 'She should submit to me -- that's in the Bible,' Webster, a former state House speaker, says in clips featured in the ad, which contends Webster has voted to deny battered women medical attention and to ban abortion even for rape victims. It opens with the line 'Religious fanatics try to take away our freedom in Afghanistan, in Iran and right here in central Florida' and closes with 'Taliban Dan, hands off our bodies and our laws.' Conservatives object to the comparison between Webster's religious beliefs and those of Islamic extremists. Grayson spokesman Sam Drzymala acknowledged the congressman's role in the ad-making process but suggested he's not the sole arbiter. 'It's a group effort, but the congressman is involved in the process,' Drzymala told HUDDLE. But he declined to say whether 'Taliban Dan' was Grayson's language. 'The campaign's policy is that [the] process by which we make ads should remain internal.' Here's the ad http://politi.co/9AfBSR

After watching this video I feel a sudden repulsion for racism and ignorance. How it is possible that in 2010 we as American can even consider to vote for a candidate obviously incompetent to be in office. United State was build on the bases of freedom of speech and believe me it is necessary to see craziness this way so we could understand our weakness and stop history from repeating it self. I want this information to be always available and wish that always all ideas be free of censorship even if is crazy and neurotic like this ad.

Corporations and unions would have to identify themselves on political ads they bankroll, and the CEO or top official would have to make "I approve this message" statements under legislation being introduced in Congress Thursday.
The measures are a direct response to a 5-4 ruling by the Supreme Court in January that upheld the First Amendment rights of such groups to spend money on campaign ads — a decision greatly enhances their ability to influence federal elections.
"At a time when the public's fears about the influence of special interests were already high, this decision stacks the deck against the average American even more," Sen. Charles Schumer told a news conference on the steps of the Supreme Court building.
The New York Democrat was joined by other Democrats, including campaign finance legislation veteran Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, who said the ruling in the Citizens United case was "one of the worst decisions in the history of this distinguished body."
The bill had no Republican sponsors, but Schumer said Democrats were talking to GOP lawmakers and "a good number" were favorably disposed.
A House group led by Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, a member of the Democratic leadership, and two Republicans, will hold a similar news conference later in the day.
Opponents of the ruling say it overturned established law and that it dangerously tilted the power balance away from individual candidates and voters and in the direction of deep-pocketed corporations and unions. Supporters argue that in addition to abridging the freedom of speech, those seeking to limit campaign spending are serving the interests of better-funded incumbents.
President Barack Obama, in his State of the Union address last February, said the ruling "reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections."
The proposed bill would also bar foreign-controlled corporations and government contractors from spending money on elections, and prohibit political spending by companies that received government bailout money.
The top financier of an ad would be required to record a stand-by-your-ad disclaimer message to prevent organizations from funneling money through shell groups to hide their identity. Corporations and unions must also disclose campaign-related spending on their websites and report that spending to shareholders and members.
Schumer said he expected the case to be a factor in considering Obama's pick to replace retiring John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court. "The next nominee must be someone who will understand how the court's decisions affect people in the real world. Because, in the Citizens United case, the current court didn't."
The lawmakers say their goal is to have the legislation enacted by July 4, in time for it to be put into effect before the November election. They said the measure could significantly reduce the anticipated flood of special interest spending on ads.
"There will be no hiding," Schumer said. "Once sunlight occurs they shrivel up and don't do them."
"We expect a major battle," said Fred Wertheimer, president of the campaign finance watchdog group Democracy 21.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has said it will "fight any and all attempts to muzzle and or demonize independent voices from the election discussion," and the Republican leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, has long been a fierce opponent of putting limits on campaign spending.
But Wertheimer said the Supreme Court was clear that laws requiring greater disclosure are constitutional. "We think we have a powerful case," he said.Corporations and unions would have to identify themselves on political ads they... more

Just hours before the Senate Finance Committee is set to vote (and likely pass) its version of health care reform legislation, the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org has announced a new television advertisement slamming the final product.
Narrated by former health insurance executive Wendell Potter, the spot accuses private insurance of trying to "kill health reform" and whacks the committee for not including a public option to keep the industry honest.
"Take it from me," Potter says, "the Senate Finance bill is a dream come true of the health insurance industry. If there is no public option insurance companies aren't going to change. The choice of a public health insurance option is the only way to keep insurance companies honest."Just hours before the Senate Finance Committee is set to vote (and likely pass) its... more

Save your praise of Colin Powell.
Because while he was endorsing Barack Obama, he was busy rewriting the history of the Iraq War and perpetuating blatant lies about his role and George Bush’s role in the lead-up.
At a press conference after his appearance on Meet the Press Sunday, Powell responded to a question about his involvement in the decisions around the Iraq War.
http://www.cnn.com (starts at about 2:48)
Here was his answer: “My role has been very, very straightforward,” he said. “I wanted to avoid a war. The President agreed with me. We tried to do that and couldn’t get it to the U.N.”
There are at least four falsehoods in that little passage.
First, Powell’s role wasn’t very straightforward. While he did initially oppose the war, his deceitful testimony at the U.N. on February 5, 2003, prepared the battlefield for war.
Second, Bush never agreed with Powell about the need to avoid the war but was always fast peddling toward war.
Third, Bush and Powell did not go to the U.N. to try to avoid war. They went there to get the Security Council to greenlight the war.
And finally, what they couldn’t get through the U.N. Security Council was not an effort to avoid the war. A majority on the Security Council was begging for more time for the weapons inspectors, who had found nothing, to continue to do their work.
It was the U.N. that wanted to avoid war. It was Bush and Powell who were in a hurry to start the war.
Powell may be getting heaps of praise from the liberal punditocracy for breaking with his party on Obama. But he has not broken with his party on the Iraq War. In fact, he’s still trying to cover up Bush’s and his own shameful acts that precipitated the war.

This website, in conjunction with the 72-minute documentary film LEADING TO WAR, details how the Bush administration made its case to the American people for military action against Saddam Hussein’s regime, leading to the Iraq War which began in 2003.
WEBSITE CORE CONTENT
On each page of the main part of the website is a menu of seven topics. These topics analyze the wide-ranging strategies and rhetorical techniques used by the administration in marketing the idea of a war with Iraq, in addition to examining the pre-war claims made by the Bush administration as presented in the film.
The core of the analysis is presented in six topics that provide a comprehensive examination of how the Bush administration led the United States to war:
A Mechanism for War – how the Bush administration constructed an elaborate mechanism to propel the nation to war
Rhetoric and Spin – the skillful manipulation of language and facts
War Through Rose-Colored Glasses – the assurances made to the public about how the war would unfold
Abuses and Misuses of Intelligence – the cherry-picking and misrepresenting of intelligence
A Mythic Reality - the creation and promotion of a ‘mythic reality’ in order to persuade the public to support a war against Iraq
Items of Note - other points of interest
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
How were the American people persuaded by President Bush and his administration to support a war in Iraq, a war opposed by most countries, even close allies, and most people worldwide? This is a question that has troubled me since before the war started on March 19, 2003.
My primary source of information about the lead-up to the Iraq War was newspapers. Thus, it was quite a revelation when I first looked at television transcripts, and later at the footage, to see how the Bush administration presented the need for war to the American people.
This led to the realization that a film like LEADING TO WAR could provide a unique perspective on these historic events. First, the material could be distilled to enhance clarity. Selected clips from 14 months of speeches, press conferences and ad-hoc remarks could be placed back-to-back in chronological order. Second, this film could be viewed with the perspective of history, with the benefit of knowing the facts that have slowly emerged since the invasion of Iraq. The resulting film provides an experience I find compelling and hope others might as well.
In addition to the insight and perspective the film provides those Americans who lived through this period, there are two groups which did not, and would not, have had broad exposure to this footage. First, people in foreign countries receive fewer broadcasts of American government officials speaking on television. Second, and perhaps more importantly, future generations will not have experienced the case for war when it was presented. These two groups might have a general sense of what happened leading up to the Iraq War, but will lack many of the specifics. A comparison could be made to our fragmented awareness of the escalation resulting in the Vietnam War, for which many people have a broad historical understanding, and yet the details of how the American people were led into supporting that war have been obscured by time.

ST. LOUIS – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin testified for two hours Friday in an abuse-of-power investigation that has been a distraction to her Republican vice presidential campaign. Palin's leadership was questioned this month in a stinging but largely toothless legislative report that found she violated state ethics laws by letting a family dispute influence her decision-making.
Palin is hoping the Alaska Personnel Board, which is running a parallel investigation, will clear her of wrongdoing. It's unclear, however, whether any conclusion will be reached before Election Day.
"I am so pleased to finally have gotten the chance to tell what really happened and get the truth out," Palin said in a statement released by her attorney. "It was the right thing to do to bring this before the Personnel Board and have a true arms length unbiased and apolitical investigator look into this."
The board is investigating the firing of her public safety commissioner, Walter Monegan. Monegan claims he was dismissed because he refused to fire Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper involved in a messy divorce from Palin's sister. The controversy, known as "Troopergate," took on national significance after John McCain selected Palin as his running mate.
selected Palin as his running mate.
The legislative inquiry found that Monegan's firing was proper but the pressure to fire the trooper, Mike Wooten, was not. Griffin says Palin stands by her decision to fire Monegan and her concerns about Wooten.
Palin and her husband, Todd, say Wooten was unstable and had made threats against their family. Wooten had also used an electric stun gun on his stepson.
"I make no apologies for wanting to protect my family and wanting to publicize the injustice of a violent trooper keeping his badge," Todd Palin said in an affidavit submitted to legislative investigators.
Sarah Palin was not subpoenaed in that investigation. Friday's testimony before independent investigator Timothy Petumenos was the first time she spoke at length or under oath about the controversy. Palin began testifying around 4 p.m., McCain campaign spokesman Taylor Griffin said. Palin's husband, Todd, was scheduled to testify before she did.
Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, characterized Palin's testimony as "thorough, candid and detailed." Van Flein said Petumenos assured him he was working quickly but made no promise the case would be closed before Election Day.
"I just hope the truth comes out," Van Flein said. "If it's after the election, it's after the election."ST. LOUIS – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin testified for two hours Friday in an... more

Barack Obama is out with the first post-debate campaign ad. He goes directly after what was perceived to be one of John McCain's best lines from Wednesday night -- his proclamation that he is "not President Bush" -- and, in the process, highlights some of the more peculiar facial expressions made by the Arizona Republican.
"True ... but you did vote with Bush 90% of the time," goes the script. "Tax breaks for big corporations and the wealthy. But almost nothing for the middle class -- same as Bush. Keep spending ten billion a month in Iraq while our own economy struggles -- same as Bush."

For most of the election, Sen. John McCain's campaign has been somewhat subtle about trying to tie Sen. Barack Obama to the former '60s radical William Ayers.
No longer. A 90-second Web ad released Oct. 8, 2008, features sinister music, side-by-side photographs of Obama and Ayers, and a series of dubious allegations about their past connections, including this one:
"Ayers and Obama ran a radical education foundation together."
Ayers was a founding member of the militant Vietnam-era anti-war group the Weathermen. He was investigated for his role in a series of domestic bombings, but the charges were dropped in 1974 due to prosecutorial misconduct. He is now an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and actively engaged in the city's civic life.
The McCain campaign said the "radical education foundation" to which they were referring is the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a charity endowed by publishing magnate Walter Annenberg that funded public-school programs in Chicago from 1995 to 2001.
We'll look at whether the foundation was radical. But first we have to grapple with whether Obama and Ayers ran it.
Obama served on the foundation's volunteer board from its inception in 1995 through its dissolution in 2001, and was chair for the first four years. So an argument can be made that he ran it, though an executive director handled day-to-day operations.
Ayers, who received his doctorate in education from Columbia University in 1987 and is now a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, was active in getting the foundation up and running. He and two other activists led the effort to secure the grant from Annenberg, and he worked without pay in the early months of 1995, prior to the board's hiring of an executive director, to help the foundation get incorporated and formulate its bylaws, said Ken Rolling, who was the foundation's only executive director. Ayers went on to become a member of the "collaborative," an advisory group that advised the board of directors and the staff.
However, Ayers "was never on the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge," and he "never made a decision programmatically or had a vote," Rolling said.
"He (Ayers) was at board meetings — which, by the way, were open — as a guest," Rolling said. "That is not anything near Bill Ayers and Barack Obama running the Chicago Annenberg Challenge."
Now, was the foundation radical?
The McCain campaign cited several pieces of evidence for that allegation, including a 1995 invitation from the foundation for applications from schools "that want to make radical changes in the way teachers teach and students learn." The campaign appears to have confused two different definitions of the word "radical." Clearly the invitation referred to "a considerable departure from the usual or traditional," rather than "advocating extreme measures to retain or restore a political state of affairs."
