Portsmouth have sacked manager Paul Hart following their poor start to the Barclays Premier League season.
The former Nottingham Forest and Barnsley boss has left Fratton Park with Portsmouth at the foot of the table, after taking just seven points from 13 matches.
...
Portsmouth have a ready-made replacement for Hart at the club after bringing in former Chelsea manager Avram Grant as director of football last month.
He will be the firm favourite for the job.

In a bid to attract tourists, Southern Railways has tried to compare Portsmouth – recently described as one of the most "depressed" cities in the south of England by Boris Johnson – to the sun-kissed Mediterranean island.
Posters put up at all 169 stations run by the operator depict various destinations covered by its services. It calls London 'the New Europe', Brighton in East Sussex 'the new Barcelona', and dubs Chichester, West Sussex, 'the new Copenhagen'.
But most striking is the comparison between Portsmouth, which has an average summer temperature of 20 degrees, and Malta, which has an average of 31 degrees.
The city was famously described by London mayor Boris Johnson a "a place that is arguably too full of drugs, obesity, underachievement and Labour MPs".
A Southern Railways spokesman said: "Portsmouth was chosen because of similarities with Malta. Like Malta, it has a long naval history and beautiful coastlines, with green open spaces. It was also singled out because it has plenty of attractions and events at the Guildhall and other venues across the city, and the brilliant Gunwharf shopping area. It's also the gateway to the Isle of Wight and other areas on the south coast."

Portsmouth have sacked England and Arsenal legend Tony Adams and his first team coach John Metgod after a run of form which saw Pompey win only two in 16 premier league games.
Adams had only been in the job since October when Harry Redknapp deserted the club for Tottenham. To be fair to him he inherited a club which would not back him in the transfer market and also sold some of their most influential players. I think that they had been playing some pretty good football and had suffered some bad luck in recent weeks, but I guess that results are what matters. Especially when relegation could see the club loose millions of pounds. Avram Grant and Allan Curbishley have been touted as replacements.

Portsmouth will announce today that Adams, has paid the price for taking the FA Cup winners to within a point of the relegation zone following Saturday’s 3-2 defeat by Liverpool.
Adams had one game in charge as caretaker, with coach Joe Jordan, before earning a two-year contract on a permanent basis. But Adams’ record is, statistically, the worst in the club’s history with just four wins out of the 22, and only two wins in 16 Premier League games, a run that has seen Portsmouth drop from eighth – when Redknapp left – to 16th.

Eleven people have been charged with indecent chanting at a football match after an inquiry into suspected abuse aimed at Sol Campbell.
They were arrested in connection with alleged racist and homophobic chanting towards Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell during a match against Tottenham at Fratton Park on September 28 last year.
This all comes in the year that the FA is looking to clamp down on homophobic chanting in much the same way as the Kick Racism Out campaign.

Newly minted Manchester City look set to splash the cash with an unreasonable amount of money, players such as Wayne Bridge, Roque Santa Cruz and Kaka (yes all in the same sentence) have already been linked.

Portsmouth have accepted a substantial bid from Spanish side Real Madrid for midfielder Lassana Diarra.
The 23-year-old France international joined Pompey from Arsenal in January this year and has now been given permission to speak to Madrid.

Portsmouth manager Tony Adams has offered former Arsenal teammate Dennis Bergkamp the chance to return to the English Premier League by taking up a coaching job at Fratton Park.
Adams is keen to finalise his back room staff in the wake of being appointed manager after Harry Redknapp's move from Pompey to Tottenham.
The ex-Arsenal skipper said he has already spoken to former teammate Martin Keown about a possible role at the club, and plans to talk to Bergkamp, who is currently working with the youth team of Dutch giants Ajax.

In a move that is likely to placate the fans, Tottenham Hotspur have announced the departure of their current management team. Juande Ramos, Gus Poyet and Damien Commoli have all left the club with immediate effect after a dismal start to the season saw them earn only 2 points (worse than Derby County at the same time last season!).
Spurs have agreed a compensation package of £5m with Portsmouth, according to the 61-year-old Redknapp.

Portsmouth were adamant that Alexandre Gaydamak was their owner after the Premier League sought clarification about who was ultimately in charge at Fratton Park.
Newspaper reports in Israel have suggested that Gaydamak's father Arkadi is in fact the owner of Portsmouth.
Premier League rules state that those in charge of clubs must pass a "fit and proper persons" test and submit an annual declaration to that effect.
Ever since Serb-American businessman Milan Madraic, now at Leicester, sold his controlling stake in the south coast club to Alexandre Gaydamak there have been persistent rumours that his wealthy businessman father, who now lives in Israel, was in fact bankrolling Portsmouth.
Arkadi Gaydamak, the owner of Israeli champions Beitar Jerusalem, has been the subject of an arrest warrant by French authorities keen to question him in connection with allegedly illicit arms trading to Angola during the 1990s.
But a Portsmouth spokesman, who insisted the club were happy to assist the Premier League, said: "We are a little surprised that this issue has come up again because Alexandre Gaydamak owns the club 100 percent and nothing has changed."

Billionaire owners want to choose who plays for their teams - day is coming when a manager will have no input into who is bought
Harry Redknapp is convinced that the days of a powerful manager running an English club are numbered.
And the Portsmouth boss has no intention of hanging around when it eventually happens.
Kevin Keegan and Alan Curbishley resigned from their posts at Newcastle and West Ham last week after claiming they were kept in the dark about transfer policies.
And Redknapp believes that further foreign investment in top-flight football will signal the end of the way a boss operates.
Redknapp said: "It's not a case of if but when. Trust me, the billionaire owners who are buying up football clubs want a far greater say.
"They don't just want to own a football club, they want to go out and choose who plays for them as well.
"The day is coming when a manager will have little or no input into who is bought or sold. It's like that abroad and you can see more and more clubs going down that route as wealthier individuals take control.
"Foreign clubs like Real Madrid and some of the top Italian sides have been working like that for years.
"The only function a manager has is to select his team and coach them. The problem with that is when it all goes wrong on the pitch it's the manager who gets fired for other people's decision-making."
Redknapp cites the situation at Manchester City as a prime example of the way football is going to evolve.
"I'm sure Mark Hughes right was delighted to get Robinho but he wouldn't have had anything to do with it," he explained. "The new owners would have made that decision and the way they have bandied names around left, right and centre I'm damned sure that wasn't done in consultation with Mark."
Redknapp accepts that he is fortunate in that, although Pompey are in foreign ownership, his immediate bosses don't try to impose themselves on him.
He added: "I'm very lucky in that I have a great working relationship with Alexandre Gaydamak. I guess I'm an exception to the rule. He has never tried to tell me who to buy and sell.
"He relies on me to identify the players I want to bring into the club, and that is the way it should be.
"Don't get me wrong - people seem to assume I have a problem with directors of football but that isn't the case at all.
"But if you are going to use that structure the relationship between the manager and the director of football has to be solid. When it isn't you get a situation like the one that developed at Newcastle, where Kevin Keegan clearly didn't get on with Dennis Wise and it led to major issues.
"I don't really know what went on but you can assume that things happened that Kevin had no control over.
"A director of football was mentioned to me when I met Newcastle but I didn't want that. I wanted to manage my way. That was the only way I saw the job."
Redknapp is adamant that if the day arrives when he is told who to buy and sell he will get up and walk away.
"I might be old-fashioned but I'm not having that," he concluded.
"If I'm going to manage a team I want control over player recruitment. I'm not buying into someone picking and choosing the players for me.
"Stuff that. The day that happens will be the day I walk out on football for good."
