Former White House correspondent Helen Thomas has come out of a seven-month retirement to write a column for the Falls Church News-Press.
Thomas was a long-time fixture in the front row of the White House briefing room, having begun her daily White House coverage in 1960. She resigned as a columnist for Hearst Newspapers last year after making controversial remarks about Jews and Israel. When asked by a video camera-wielding rabbi what she thought of Israel, Thomas said that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go home” to Germany, Poland and the U.S.
Thomas, 90, will now be writing a weekly political affairs column exclusively for the News-Press.
“She is progressive, and following my more than eight hours of direct, one-on-one talks with her since the events of last June, I remain firmly convinced that she is neither bigoted, nor racist, nor anti-Semitic,” News-Press owner Nicholas Benton is quoted as saying in an article announcing Thomas’ column. Benton said he’s happy to be giving Thomas a “second chance.”Former White House correspondent Helen Thomas has come out of a seven-month retirement... more

The Anti-Defamation League and other Jewish organizations have defamed the elderly thought criminal, Helen Thomas, as a 'vulgar anti-Semite' and ordered journalism schools, professional organizations to no longer recognize the former White House correspondent.
“I can call a president of the United States anything in the book but I can’t touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank,” said Thomas. “No Americans would tolerate that – white-only roads.”The Anti-Defamation League and other Jewish organizations have defamed the elderly... more

Oh boy, Helen Thomas can't keep her big mouth shut. She's exercising her God given right to free speech as if it were going to be taken away tomorrow!
***
In a speech that drew a standing ovation, Helen Thomas talked about "the whole question of money involved in politics."
“I can call a president of the United States anything in the book, but I can’t touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank,” Thomas said. “No Americans would tolerate that — white-only roads.”
"We are owned by propagandists against the Arabs. There's no question about that. Congress, the White House, and Hollywood, Wall Street, are owned by the Zionists. No question in my opinion. They put their money where there mouth is…We're being pushed into a wrong direction in every way."...
In her speech to about 300 inside a center in Dearborn, Thomas lashed out at the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying they were built on lies. And she decried bias against Arabs.
Who said there are only two acts in American lives? Thomas keeps on going. Here she is in the Detroit Free Press saying that her firing has liberated her to speak the truth about Zionist influence. Apparently she gave a speech in Dearborn, Michigan.
John Mearsheimer lately called Dennis Ross an agent for Israel and Thomas calls him a Zionist.
Well for god's sake he headed the Jewish People Policy Institute, which is based in Jerusalem. Isn't that a story? This guy is now making our policy? Is Thomas right or is she wrong about Zionist influence? When will the debate really happen? I think the answer is, When Jews come out strongly against Zionism and can show that this is not about Jews, it is about an ideology/mindset/frame that pervades and distorts Jewish life.
Of course, the National Chairman of the Jewish-run Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Abraham Foxman is continuing his onging efforts of actually DEFAMING anyone who dares to breach the ultimate taboo.
"Helen Thomas has clearly, unequivocally revealed herself as a vulgar anti-Semite," Foxman said in a statement. "Her suggestion that Zionists control government, finance and Hollywood is nothing less than classic, garden-variety anti-Semitism. This is a sad final chapter to an otherwise illustrious career. Unlike her previous, spontaneous remarks into a camera, these words were carefully thought out and conscious. It shows a prejudice that is deep-seated and obsessive."Oh boy, Helen Thomas can't keep her big mouth shut. She's exercising her God... more

When Helen Thomas, the veteran White House columnist, offered her personal viewpoints on Israel on the sidelines of Jewish Heritage Day outside of the White House, her unguarded remarks were caught on video. The video clip quickly amassed a major audience on the Web, a medium that Thomas has long criticized and that proved her own undoing.
"The technology that brings instant coverage into the living room has also brought into journalism unqualified people who have adopted the modus operandi of true journalists, blurring the profound difference between news professionals and entertainers," she wrote in her 2006 book, "Watchdogs of Democracy?" The book skewered the Washington press corps for their lax coverage on the lead up to the U.S.-led war in Iraq and critically examined the challenges facing journalism in the 21st century.
The damning video was made by Rabbi Nesenoff, who posted it on RabbiLive.com.
Thomas apologized, but Washington Post reporter Sally Quinn thought Thomas' apology didn't go deep enough. "She needs to say, 'I believe in Israel's right to exist' and 'I pray for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian problem,' or words to that effect," she wrote. "The person who called for Israel to get out of Palestine is not the Helen Thomas I knew. I want the old Helen back."
Ellen Ratner, a Fox News contributor and Talk Radio News Service Washington bureau chief, said on FoxNews.com that Thomas should have gotten a break. "Let's face it, we all have said things--or thought things--about 'other' groups of people, things that we would not want to see in print or on video. Anyone who denies it is a liar," she wrote. Ratner added that Thomas "is three months short of 90 and her brain's filters might not work as well as a 40-year-old's."
Thomas, as we all know by now, was dropped by her speakers' agency, Nine Speakers, and didn't go to Bethesda, Md., to give the graduation keynote at Walt Whitman High School.

BETHESDA, Md. (June 7) -- A high school graduation speech by veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas has been canceled because of controversial remarks she made about Israel, the school's principal said in an e-mail Sunday.
Thomas had been scheduled to speak at the June 14 graduation of Walt Whitman High School, but Principal Alan Goodwin wrote in the e-mail to students and parents that she was being replaced. The school in the Washington suburb of Bethesda, Md., hasn't picked a new speaker.
"Graduation celebrations are not the venue for divisiveness," Goodwin wrote.
Thomas, a columnist for Hearst Newspapers, issued an apology on her Web site on Friday for comments that were captured on video by an interviewer for the website www.rabbilive.com. On the video dated May 27, Thomas says Israelis should "get the hell out of Palestine," suggesting they go to Germany, Poland or the U.S.
"I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians," Thomas wrote on her site on Friday. "They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon."
The national director of the Anti-Defamation League, Abraham H. Foxman, said Sunday that Thomas' apology didn't go far enough.
"Her suggestion that Israelis should go back to Poland and Germany is bigoted and shows a profound ignorance of history," Foxman said in a statement. "We believe Thomas needs to make a more forceful and sincere apology for the pain her remarks have caused."
Thomas, 89, began her long career with the wire service United Press International in 1943, and started covering the White House in 1960, according to a biography posted on her website. She became a columnist for Hearst in 2000.

This clip, which really can't be misinterpreted, screams a thousand different questions.
Helen was always a little dingy even in her younger years. I'm not even going to paraphrase what she said. You view it for yourself and then you can say what I said after I first saw it:

On Friday night, Helen Thomas gave a rousing keynote speech for the Women, Action and the Media conference at MIT. We were too far in the back to get good video or photos (we'll post those when we find some), but here are a few things she said that we jotted down:
On media bias:
"Hillary is getting a bad rap with the media. Obama is walking on water with the media . . . Being racist is more verboten than being anti-woman."
On the nine presidents she's covered as a member of the press corps:
JFK: "My favorite."
LBJ: "Bigger than life."
Nixon: "When he had two roads to go down, he always took the wrong one."
Ford: "Wanted to be Speaker of the House."Carter: "Made human rights the centerpiece of his foreign policy."
Reagan: "Turned the country to the right."
H.W. Bush: "Had the good sense not to go on to Baghdad."
Clinton: "A consummate politician. Never had the courage to take the great steps for peace."
G.W. Bush: "He's hurt his party and the country."
On the war:
"My solution? Get out of Iraq yesterday."
On Hillary's campaign:
When an audience member asked, "Is there merit in supporting a woman presidential candidate because she's a woman?" Thomas says: "Yes. I honestly think that our time has come, and I think our time should have come long ago . . . Hillary has worked hard. She has tried hard . . . She can't open her mouth - and neither can her husband - without being denounced."
On calls for Hillary to drop out:
"If I were Hillary, I'd stay in the race. I can't help but admire her grit. Maybe it's all over, and that's what they're trying to tell her, but I wouldn't listen."On Friday night, Helen Thomas gave a rousing keynote speech for the Women, Action and... more

Helen Thomas is an example of what American Journalism should look like. Where are the other jornalists? Why are they still spinning? If there had been any accountability after invading Iraq, they would not be able to beat the war drums on Iran. Journalist's in America should be ashamed, even when facts are presented, they continue to spin. Lack of accountability enables lack of shame! Has American Journalists become enablers for the Neocon War Machine? Helen Thomas is a 'Voice of Reason'! Helen Thomas is an example of what American Journalism should look like. Where are... more

Columnist Helen Thomas brought down the house this morning in the White House briefing room.
Ms. Thomas, as the morning, off-camera gaggle wound down, asked White House press secretary Dana Perino what President Bush thinks of former advisor Karl Rove being given a regular column by Newsweek.
Mrs. Perino turned the question back on Ms. Thomas, and asked her what she thought.
"I think it's terrible," Ms. Thomas said.
