It seems so long ago. But really it’s only been a couple of weeks since I was engulfed in the mysterious and enigmatic music of Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House. It was one of the best shows of 2010 (so far). So let’s see what was conjured inside the heart and mind of one fan and see how Twitter can be used to understand live human emotion during a concert.

This is the first video of a partnership where Current TV will air exclusive Take Away Shows from La Blogotheque.
La Blogotheque founder Chryde descripes the shooting of the video:
It was in February, before their album was out, before they were praised by Pitchfork and others (including us). They had long hair, they were smiling, living in a van hippie-style, and they waited for Nate Chan and me on the parking lot of a McDonald’s, in an area of San Francisco hamming the flower power nostalgia. Pecknold was excited just like a kid after he found an abandoned gymnasium in a street behind. They played in the grass, hummed while walking. It was the before-the-success band. Carefree, unpressured, no heavy recognition.
Other Take Away shows to follow include The Dodos, Grand Archives, Emily Jane White and Quasi. This is the first video of a partnership where Current TV will air exclusive Take Away... more

[from source] The Shins are likely to self-release their fourth studio album through frontman James Mercer's Aural Apothecary label, Billboard can reveal. The beloved indie rock group's first three albums were released by Sub Pop.
"The deal will be more of a [pressing and distribution] deal than a traditional record deal," Shins manager Ian Montone tells Billboard. "That partner could very well remain Sub Pop, who have done a remarkable job with the band and have a great staff of people who really love music. It could be a digital partner with respect to other rights. All of this is being determined. The first goal is to make the record and see where that takes us."
Says Sub Pop general manager Megan Jasper, "The Shins have been a huge part of Sub Pop's story. We'd love to continue working with them."
The Shins are seeking a deal that would allow them to own their masters, "and, in addition to the marketing tools we have at our own disposal, team up with a label partner that will assist with additional marketing, radio, and various costs," Montone reports.
For a band like the Shins, who have sold 1.58 million albums in the United States since 2001, according to Nielsen SoundScan, such a deal makes sense because "it allows them to have the best of all possible worlds -- control and ownership, as well as the ability to still partner with a label and be able to take advantage of that traditional infrastructure," according to Montone.
The band's most recent album, 2007's "Wincing the Night Away," debuted at a career-best No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 538,000 copies.[from source] The Shins are likely to self-release their fourth studio album through... more

Nestled into the hip city streets of Echo Park is the Echo and on the Saturday night it was the place to be. Opening up the gig was Princeton - a wholesome indie group whose singers may well have been twins and whose ages were only evident by the matching beers in their little hands. Their music was sweet and as they sang together one couldn't help but sway along. But we were there for two reasons and two reasons alone: The Ruby Suns and Le Loup.
The Ruby Suns are a pop "Healing & Easy Listening" group from New Zealand and this crazy quartet could definitely have healing powers for I was ready to fall asleep before they came on but then- as if by Kiwi magic their music had me up and dancing within seconds. The band released their self-titled debut in 2005 on Sub Pop Records and their second album 'The Sea Lion' is out now so be sure to check it out!
Next up was Le Loup (pictured above) - the progressive-indie band from Washington D.C. The band is on Hardly Art (the label formed by Sub Pop founder Jonathan Poneman). Their debut album 'Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millenium General Assembly' is available on amazon, subpop, insound and hardly art. These "children of the internet age" met via a craigslist posting by founder Sam Simkoff who was looking for bandmates and found six incredible ones. Their music already has people talking and after Saturday's show - I only have good things to say.
