"I hope Iowans will caucus for me as their first choice this Thursday, because of my singular positions on the war, on health care, and trade. This is an opportunity for people to stand up for themselves. But in those caucus locations where my support doesn't reach the necessary threshold, I strongly encourage all of my supporters to make Barack Obama their second choice. Sen. Obama and I have one thing in common: Change."

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has widened his lead in Iowa over Hillary Clinton and John Edwards heading into Thursday's nominating caucuses, according to The Des Moines Register's final Iowa Poll before the 2008 nominating contests.
Obama's rise is the result in part of a dramatic influx of first-time caucusgoers, including a sizable bloc of political independents. Both groups prefer the Illinois senator in what has been a very competitive campaign.
Obama was the choice of 32 percent of likely Democratic caucusgoers, up from 28 percent in the Register's last poll in late November, while Clinton, a New York senator, held steady at 25 percent and Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, was virtually unchanged at 24 percent.Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has widened his lead in Iowa over... more

Many conservatives are concerned about the Huckabee campaign's momentum. Rush Limbaugh said on his show, "Huckabee isn't a conservative!" Many of the conservative political analysts in this article agree that Huckabee is a natural choice for Iowa's Evangelical caucus voters, but his message probably will not carry the party to the presidency.
Party insiders are encouraged by his ability to motivate Christian Conservative voters and hope his new popularity will translate to real votes for whomever the nominee is. Many conservatives are concerned about the Huckabee campaign's momentum. Rush... more

Huckabee uses his love of family as an excuse for his homophobic stance against gay rights. He is afraid gay rights will hurt family, and he says that family is the first human institution and the foundation of all other institutions. Of course historical records describing the origin of marriage do not exist, so it is impossible to prove or disprove Huckabee's belief. Huckabee fails to recognize the thousands of gay and lesbian families in American that are happy and healthy and have in no way degraded the family structure. Hi America, it's me Citizen Kate,
Dateline: Des Moines
I learned how hard it is to be an outsider trying to cover inside politics, especially when you run into the control nuts at NPR. I never ever had an experience like the one I had with cool outsider candidate Senator MIke Gravel.
I'm on a quest to find out about America's next great leader. I always say if you don't know, don't vote. So I've been interviewing the presidential candidates. Do I know anything about politics? No. Am I a reporter? Not really. Has that ever stopped me? Heck no! I'm "the people" and we deserve a voice.
Note to self: politics is a tough nut to crack!
Peace and Hugs

We spent a crazy day with people's presidential candidate Mike Gravel. It was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life. Apparently National "public" Radio isn't really about the public being able to spend a day with a candidate and find out what makes them tick. It's about keeping independent reporters out, even if they've got credentials!

Mike Huckabee is waiting for Moses to okay gays. He said in a 2006 speech, "Until Moses comes down with two stone tablets from Brokeback Mountain saying he's changed the rules, let's keep it like it is," he said.
While governor of Arkansas he was opposed to gay and lesbian foster parents. He tried to make it illegal, but his policy was challenged in the Arkansas supreme court. Huckabee lost. He later pushed through legislation to make it illigal for unmarried cohabitants to act as foster parents. That law remains.
He wanted to quarantine HIV patience.
He wrote a children's book in 1998 that blamed a recent school shooting on, "abortion, environmentalism, AIDS, pornography, drug use and homosexual activism."
Huckabee believes sodomy should be illegal. (Sodomy is any sexual act that does not result in conception.)
And finally, in 1992 Huckabee said, "that homosexuality was an "aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle" that posed "a dangerous public health risk."

Don't get me wrong: Huckabee is MY only choice for president right now. He's genuine, honest, has strong convictions, believes what he believes fervently, has a plan for america, and was a good governor in almost every aspect of the word. However, it's one thing to have chuck norris's endorsement: and another to have him be an integral part of a commercial in Iowa. I don't think it was neccessary for Mike to do this. Chuck Norris jokes are old, but that's not the point. I like mike's sense of humor a lot, but this may have gone to far... his convictions, plan for america, and personality can support themselves without chuck norris jokes getting involved. he still has my vote though
