His strategic plan is to create thousands (if not millions) of huge indoor gardens to serve communities with fresh, nutritional produce. These highly efficient, local food production factories are capable of growing food indoors using his state-of-the-art and sustainable technologies. Most importantly, these food production centers can generate crops 365 days a year, regardless of how harsh the outdoor environment becomes.
The idea is to take an environmentally controlled room – well insulated from the outside world – and grow food under his digital light delivery systems. The energy required to power the factories will come from wind and solar power generation sites.
Some cynics scoff that taking food production indoors is tantamount to admitting defeat. “Have we really screwed up the climate so much that we have to grow plants indoors now?”, is the most common question. And the idea of using solar and wind power to generate artificial sunlight is a difficult concept for many people to accept. However a growing number of people, especially within the indoor gardening industry, are starting to switch on to his ideas.A Man With A Plan

Saltwater-loving plants could open up half a million square miles of previously unusable territory for energy crops, helping settle the heated food-versus-fuel debate, which nearly derailed biofuel progress last year.
By increasing the world's irrigated acreage by 50 percent, saltwater crops could provide a no-guilt source of biomass for alt fuel makers and tone down the rhetoric of U.N. officials worried about food prices, one of whom called the conversion of arable land to biofuel crops "a crime against humanity."
Thousands of acres of Big Island ranch land are home to cattle and a looming controversy.
"We need land. All the biomass crops are land intensive," John Ray said.
Ray is general manager of SunFuels Hawaii LLC. The Waimea company wants to plant eucalyptus trees and turn the crop into diesel fuel.
"The livestock industry in the state of Hawaii is in a very fragile state," Alan Gottlieb said.
Gottlieb represents seven Big Island ranchers. They would have to share some of the land they lease from the state with SunFuels if the land board says so.
"We're convinced that there are enormous acres in current grazing leases that we believe could be more productive, can still support grazing but could support energy sustainability," Ray said.
He said SunFuels could produce up to 13 million gallons of biodiesel annually, meeting the Big Island's needs for diesel fuel. Much of ranch land SunFuels wants is in the Hamakua area.Thousands of acres of Big Island ranch land are home to cattle and a looming... more
In order to solve global energy shortages, renewable sources of energy — such as hydrogen — that don't produce pollutants or greenhouse gases are needed. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas are considered nonrenewable energy sources and have been accused of causing global warmingdue to their emissions of carbon dioxide.
Using a selecting agent to grow only these bacteria, the teams identified a gene that inactivates the bacteria's hydrogen uptake system so that all of the hydrogen produced is released. Because the bacterial cells cannot recycle the hydrogen, the hydrogen they produce can be captured and used as a fuel whose byproduct is water and heat
If successful, the invention holds the promise of hydrogen as a source for use in fuel cell technology. Fuel cell energy works by combining hydrogen and oxygen in order to produce electricity and water, which are considered more efficient, quiet, and pollution-free in comparison with other power sources.

"It's actually like growing tomatoes; the algae need similar things," he says.
This crop uses the warmth, light and a steady feed of carbon dioxide and nutrients to reproduce faster than any other plant on earth.
The amount of algae in these tubes can double daily. And that is both the attraction and the problem with algae as a commercial crop.
What Algae-Link's system claims to crack, possibly for the first time, is the problem of clogging. A patented internal cleaning system keeps the set-up harvesting twenty-four hours a day.
Once the cells of the algae are split into their constituent parts (an established science with all biofuel crops but a more secretive part of the process in this case), the green mass can be sold as feed for fish and oyster farms and the vegetable oil can be processed into engine fuel.
What will be crucial is to produce the raw material in sufficient quantities. Cynics are saying a land mass anything up to the size of Ireland would have to be devoted to algae production to fuel the world's civil aviation industry.
But that may not be out of the question. With algae cultivation in tubes, farming is feasible on otherwise unusable land; there are already projects up and running in the Gobi desert of northern China.

There’s something really satisfying about recycling.
It may be the smash as bottles break in the bottle bank. It could also be the holier-than-thou mindset that one instantly adopts. In reality, it’s probably neither so we should stop analysing and get back to work.
The business news wires have been on great form today with an announcement from the Nippon Steel Corp.capturing our eye. The Japanese company has developed a technology to produce hydrogen from garbage.
Basically, landfill now becomes of use. The newswire also cited the Nikkei business daily, which suggested waste disposal costs could be cut by 20pc.
The technology comes from a collaboration between Nippon Steel, Kyoto University and the University of Kitayushu. The ministry of economy, trade and industry also chipped in a few yen.
According to the newswire “Nippon Steel aims to sell the equipment to municipalities. The hydrogen gas extracted could be used for fuel cells to power cars and factories, while the ash residue could be used to create cement, the report added.”There’s something really satisfying about recycling.

"The replacement of traditional fuels with biofuels has dragged more than 30 million people worldwide into poverty, an aid agency report says."
Oxfam says so-called green policies in developed countries are contributing to the world's soaring food prices, which hit the poor hardest.
The group also says biofuels will do nothing to combat climate change.
Its report urges the EU to scrap a target of making 10% of all transport run on renewable resources by 2020.
Oxfam estimates the EU's target could multiply carbon emissions 70-fold by 2020 by changing the use of land.
The report's author, Oxfam's biofuel policy adviser Rob Bailey, criticised rich countries for using subsidies and tax breaks to encourage the use of food crops for alternative sources of energy like ethanol.
"If the fuel value for a crop exceeds its food value, then it will be used for fuel instead," he said.
"Rich countries... are making climate change worse, not better, they are stealing crops and land away from food production, and they are destroying millions of livelihoods in the process."
Opportunity - or crime?
Biofuels are a divisive issue with strong arguments on both sides.
Leaders such as Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva have suggested the biofuel boom provides developing nations with a great opportunity.
He says it creates a profitable export for energy crop producers in Africa, Central America and the Caribbean that could enable them to claw their way out of poverty.
But several aid agencies and analysts have warned of the possible downside of biofuel crop cultivation.
One UN adviser went as far as describing biofuels as a "crime against humanity". "The replacement of traditional fuels with biofuels has dragged more than 30 million... more

We concluded that after the collapse of communism, America was on track to become the worlds sole superpower and most compelling role model for Muslim youth including our own. We were wrong. We now have high confidence that America is on a path of self-destruction, for three reasons:
First, 9/11 has made America afraid and therefore stupid. The war on terrorism is now so deeply imbedded in Americas psyche that we think it is highly likely that America will continue to export more fear than hope and will continue to defend things like torture and Guantánamo Bay prison and to favor politicians like Mr. Giuliani, who alienates the rest of the world.
Second, at a time when Americas bridges, roads, airports and Internet bandwidth have fallen behind other industrial powers, including China, we believe that the U.S. opposition to higher taxes and the fact that the primary campaigns have focused largely on gay marriage, flag-burning and whether the Christian Bible is the literal truth means it is highly unlikely that America will arrest its decline.
Third, all the U.S. presidential candidates are distancing themselves from the core values that made America such a great power and so different from us in particular Americas long commitment to free trade, open immigration and a reverence for scientific enquiry wherever it leads. Our intel analysts are baffled that the leading Democrat, Mrs. Clinton, no longer believes in globalization and the leading Republican, Mr. Huckabee, never believed in evolution.
Therefore, we conclude with high confidence that there is little likelihood that post-9/11 America will, as they say, get its groove back anytime soon.
Who needs nukes when you have this kind of America?
