On Sunday (06-28-09) was the 36th Annual San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade.
The gay community gathered on a joyful march along Market Street in the spirit of its celebration theme: "In order to form a more perfect union…"
Mayor Gavin Newson e other local authorities participated on this event to show their support and commitment to preserve everyone's civil rights.
This event that usually attracts a joyful crowd this year seemed to have motivated everyone to come out. It felt like the rainbow was attracting everyone to show their support to marriage and family equality.
Prop. 8 gave the gay community a sense of union that is beyond the aspect of civil union. It made us realize that denying lawful recognition to longtime commitment among same gender couples affects the lives of their children as well.
The thought that children of same sex gender grew up by under the social stigma of their illegitimacy status, it's enough reason to recognize that Prop. 8 is extremely unfair!
Meanwhile, gays everywhere shall stand up and keep on shouting out loud: "homophobia got to go!"On Sunday (06-28-09) was the 36th Annual San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade.

In response to the administration's recent heralding of of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, parents' groups and family rights advocates across the nation overwhelmed the phone lines of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice. They shut down phone lines and crashed the voice mail system, announced Michael Ramey, Director of Communications & Research for parentalrights.org.
"Monday in a Harlem middle school, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice told a group of 120 students that administration officials are actively discussing 'when and how it might be possible to join' (that is, ratify) the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)," warned Mike Farris, President of parentalrights.org and Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) Chairman.
"In my 30 years of political involvement, I have learned to recognize this as what is called a “trial balloon.” Like in World War I trench warfare, our opponents have 'sent up a balloon' to see if it will draw fire. If things remain quiet, they will proceed with their plans to push for ratification of the CRC in the U.S. Senate," Farris wrote, before he encouraged concerned parents to voice their opposition.
South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint recently introduced SJ Resolution 16, a companion bill to HJ Resolution 42, introduced by Rep. Pete Hoekstra on March 31, which would prevent international law from interfering with state laws on families and children. DeMint's amendment calls for parental rights to be explicitly protected in the Constitution as a fundamental and not just an implied right.
"Now we're finding that parental rights are being attacked by courts all over the country," DeMint said recently. "And as we look at where this country is going, particularly [regarding] more association with the United Nations and [consideration of] the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, these treaties would supersede all the laws in 50 states."In response to the administration's recent heralding of of the UN Convention on the... more

Arthur, from Singapore, writes:
(DAYS DEPRIVED OF FATHERING MY SON : 279)
Parental Alienation is a conscious and continual effort by one parent to severe the other parent's affectionate relationship with the child through bad-mouthing, threatening, bashing and brainwashing. An intense on-going alienation will cause the child to think that any affection or loyalty for victimised parent is considered betrayal to the alienating parent. The child experiences an enormous amount of fear and guilt for wanting to love that victimised parent. Psychologically, this has huge ramifications on the child in the long-term.
Parental Alienation is a gender-neutral issue that is affecting children and families all over the world and it needs to be addressed seriously.Arthur, from Singapore, writes:

Parental Alienation Syndrome
(PAS) gained its well-known name in 1985. But few people know its history before then. Vocal opponents of the diagnostic term (and its formal description) frequently claim that PAS is nonexistent and that it was “invented” in 1985 by Dr. Richard Gardner. Are the naysayers correct?
The historical record reveals that they are not. Abundant evidence exists to demonstrate that the particular form of nastiness which we now call parental alienation has been around – and widely recognized – for a very long time. It just had different names before 1985.
Pre-1985 parental alienation cases reveal a varied terminology: “(an attempt to) alienate the affections of the child from other parent” (Ball case, 1827); “poisoning the minds of the children against her” (Guillot case, 1877); “secreted the children for the purpose of alienating their affections from her” (Hyland case, 1883); “husband and his family have exercised an undue influence over the boy and has inoculated (him) with hatred toward her, so that he is now not desirous of seeing her” (Carter case, 1904).
There are even pre-1985 pictures, snapped by courthouse news photographers and published for the world to see. The top photo above, from 1952, shows 9-year-old Marlene Matchan seated next to her maternal grandmother, hysterically crying and shouting at her alienated mother, “Get away from me!”
Los Angeles Judge William McKay just minutes before had admonished the grandmother (who had been looking after the girl following the mother’s divorce) with these harsh words: “You have brutally poisoned the child’s mind against your own daughter. If you do not desist from further interference I will see that the proper authorities investigate your activities.” Granny’s efforts to convince the judge that Marlene’s mom was a habitual drunk who had in the past never demonstrated any interest in the child simply backfired.
The shocking photographic evidence made this case a national news story. One Wisconsin paper ran the picture on the front page with the headline: “Child Tortured in Custody Case.”
In the end, Judge McKay was proved right. Once Marlene was removed from the influence of her toxic granny, she quickly adjusted and two weeks later told the court she was glad to be back with mom.
A similar scene is depicted in a 1950 photo at right above. Here Starr Anne Schneider, a tormented 10-year-old whose mother had just won custody from an alienating maternal grandmother, resists her mom’s tender efforts to comfort her.Parental Alienation Syndrome

While Attny Fine is still in jail for fighting the corruption in the family court system, yet another person who helps the victims of this corrupt system is jailed......
Claiming civil rights violations, British citizen and father Amir Sanjari hasn't eaten for two weeks. Sanjari, who sits in the Sacramento County jail, was picked up for a warrant out of Indiana. He was arrested at a bus station where he and his adult daughter were about to say "Good bye" after their first visit in years.
Both were hoping their reunion would be permanent, but neither had the financial means. Once a successful nuclear physicist, Sanjari hasn't been able to return to the UK to continue his carreer or get a job in the US. Instead, he's been helping other parents who are faced with civil rights violations in family court.
According to Sanjari, and documented on his website the warrant stems from his divorce case, which is rife with injustice and corruption. Bob Norton, a MA advocate for reform of divorce courts said, "I know Amir. He ran this up the appeals court but it seems the judge is very politically connected and influenced decisions by making contact with appeals court and other gov’t agencies. Sanjari has learned enough 'real' law to be dangerous, expecting that the courts would honor this law."
Sanjari's website tells a story of one injustice after another, and how he has tried to fight back. As an example: he was once ordered to pay a thousand dollars a month in child support, even though at the time he and his wife shared equal custody and had similar incomes. Another: Sanjari took his daughters on a pre-arranged and agreed upon vacation to the UK. He didn't return with them, but had plans to follow shortly. When the terrorist attacks on 9/11delayed his return, their mother fraudulantly claimed abandonment and filed for sole custody of the two girls. While Attny Fine is still in jail for fighting the corruption in the family court... more

Barack Obama has pledged to work towards the elimination of discrimination against LGBT families if elected.
The new statements regarding LGBT issues were made in a response to a letter by the Family Equality Council (FEC) asking candidates to outline their plans to "recognise, respect, protect and celebrate all of the loving families [they] seek to represent."
John McCain, who failed to respond to the FEC letter, said in an interview with the New York Times last month that he does not believe gay people should adopt children.
Obama, on the other hand, emphasised: "I'll be a President that stands up for American families; all of them. The desire to build a life with a loved one, to provide for a family and to have children who will grow and thrive; these are desires that all people share, regardless of race, sex, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity."
"We ... have to do more to support and strengthen LGBT families. Because equality in relationship, family, and adoption rights is not some abstract principle; it's about whether millions of LGBT Americans can finally live lives marked by dignity and freedom."
Senator Obama listed more funding for after-school programmes, the abolition of the federal ban on same-sex marriage, an end to discrimination against LGBT families and "equal treatment in our family and adoption laws" as goals for his administration.Barack Obama has pledged to work towards the elimination of discrimination against... more

The complex diversity of human ethnicity is a testament to human adaptability and resilience. Our libraries and schools are now filled with volumes written about unique and independent social systems that have coexisted for millennia throughout the planet. There are countless examples to choose from that run the gamut of human kin group possibilities?some egalitarian, some totalitarian. There is not one set standard, from an anthropological or sociological point of view that is constant with regard to marriage, or what constitutes a kin group. There are many complex individual psychological processes at work that cause people to bond and form into groups and the most commonly recognized and studied unit is the family. However, for many people at different times in human history, family has meant different things. What most anthropologists and sociologists do agree on is that in every society each individual has a role to play in the social construction of reality. However the situation that the public at large deals with on a daily basis is how to clearly identify individual roles and how to mediate conflicts arising from everyone?s individual pursuit of happiness; where these conflicts are most evident are in the arenas of gender, class, and ethnicity.

This is a link to an essay I wrote on Gay Marriage as part of my degree program in Journalism. Hope you all like it.
In the eyes of many people gay marriage, much like abortion, is considered a moral issue due to the fact that most religions in the world view homosexuality as a deviance from the norm, whereas abortion the murder of innocent children. I believe that this stems from the idea established in the book of Genesis, and similar creation accounts from other sacred texts, that the primary purpose of humanity is for men and women to join together in one flesh couples and procreate. This arrangement later became referred to as marriage and is often regarded as the foundation of human civilization. Both homosexuality and abortion are in strong opposition to these absolute concepts. I also found that there are those conservative, not necessarily religious, people who view homosexuality as a mental illness or a psychological disorder and therefore oppose gay marriage on that basis. This is a link to an essay I wrote on Gay Marriage as part of my degree program in... more
