“(Manquer) Missing: A Bicycle Love Story” is a visually stunning 4-minute animated short film by Matt Daniels and Sean Pecknold. The stop-motion animation recounts a well-known motion picture trope: awkward fellow falls for the love of his life, who is stolen away by a village lout, then abused and neglected by the hooligan, and finally gallantly rescued from the cruel thug. But this wonderfully charming short transcends that commonplace leitmotif through its mixture of unusual, visually dynamic photography and a captivating narrative voice-over. You’ll find it very hard not to fall under the pleasant spell of this beguiling little love story, with its every surprising twist and turn.
This piece presents a number of color photographs, as well as this fascinating animated short film.

“Madame Tutli-Putli” is a 2007 Academy Award nominated, stop-motion animated short film that takes viewers on a breath-taking odyssey into the world of Madame Tutli-Putli. Her journey proves to be a difficult, terrifying one: a combination of Hitchcock for the unexplained dangers and Alien for the other-worldly interruptions that go well beyond just about anything one has previously experienced in a puppet, stop-frame movie.
Traveling alone on the night train, weighed down with the ghosts of her past, she faces both the kindness and menace of strangers. Finding herself caught up in a desperate adventure, adrift between real and imagined worlds, she is forced to confront her demons.
Includes a number of color illustrations from the film, a wonderful slide show and the acclaimed animated short, “Madame Tutli-Putli.”

The Falcon is a short, steampunk, stop-animation film that takes place on an old wooden photo album and is entirely composed of macro-photographed hardware pieces from vintage, antique cameras that have been carefully disassembled, for that true analog experience in 100% digital, Shamptonian ( http://shamptonian.org ) high definition. The film features music from ESL artist Thunderball ( http://www.eslmusic.com/artist/thunderball ), with sound design by Bret Johnson...whatever your preferred format, there is a perspective for everyone.
The Falcon takes place during the Age of Argus, whence our hero, Professor Weston (ISO 25) and his feathered companion, Howell 'the Owl' (f/256), journey throughout the Focal Kingdom on the search for a decent meal (a daily occurance). Meanwhile, preoccupied with the pursuit of the forbidden f/stop, we meet our villain, Silly Patty (-2/+2 EV), whose own inner struggle between over and under exposure sheds light on an even greater depth of field. Before long, the wind winds its way through the focal distance, and we witness a classic struggle over the proper aspect ratio (not to mention water rights) between Silly Patty (-2/+2 EV) and Professor Weston (ISO 25) that unleashes a storm of thunderclouds and rain. After the clouds part, the odyssey continues from the Hasselblad Hills to the Olympus Ocean, where, among many friends (including a few interlopers), we meet the Foctopi, just as the day peers even further into the viewfinder of dusk, the sprockets complete their daily cycle of life, and the light of sustenance is finally captured.
Starring Professor Weston (ISO 25), Silly Patty (-2/+2 EV) and Howell 'the Owl' (f/256) (brief cameo by wife Bell), with a special appearance by The Aperturians.
Among the Parts (partial list): Falcon Minette, Argus AF & C3, Mercury II, Yashica TL, Weston Light Meters (several/various models), Polaroid Land Cameras (several/various models).

“Choices” is an inspiring and very creative animated short film by Anton Groves. The animation used thousands of cardboard cuts, which were combined using both stop-motion footage and digital animation. The 2 ½ minute short film was created for the charity organization “United Way” in Romania, and was a selection for the 2009 Cannes Lions Advertising Festival. “Choices” takes the viewer through the harrowing childhood and teenage years of one small girl, demonstrating the hazards that potentially lie in wait for those children whose life choices are a result of not actually having a choice.

Sony Pictures has struck a deal with Aardman Animations, the stop-motion company behind Wallace & Gromit, to develop and distribute two new animated features - Arthur Christmas and Pirates!. Aardman was previously partnered with DreamWorks Animation, but split with them after Flushed Away performed poorly. Pirates! will see Aardman co-founder Peter Lord back behind the camera for a movie done in hand-crafted stop-motion animation, like Henry Selick's Coraline this year. Since Flushed Away hit in 2007, Aardman has been laying lowing, developing these two films and their scripts to perfection.Sony Pictures has struck a deal with Aardman Animations, the stop-motion company... more
