FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C. — Citizens United and its president, David Bossie, today issued the following statement:
“Citizens United (CU), and its President David Bossie, have retained counsel to pursue claims against CNN for reporting in a November 28th CNN show called Broken Government – ‘Campaign Killers,’ hosted by Campbell Brown, that David Bossie and CU were part of a ‘fringe militia.’ CU through counsel will seek a formal apology and public retraction of those statements, and for calling Bossie a ‘dirty trickster.’ If no retraction is forthcoming, CU will then bring legal action to hold CNN accountable for these and other misrepresented facts. These baseless allegations were a disservice to CU and its 500,000 members, CNN and its audience, and to general principles of responsible, fact-based journalism.”

A 58-year-old Wal-Mart employee who said he "couldn't take it anymore" lit himself on fire outside the Bloomingdale store where he worked late Thursday night and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said this morning.
The Carol Stream man, who worked the overnight shift, was in a parking lot of an adjacent sporting goods store in the west suburban strip mall when he set himself on fire with lighter fluid around 10 p.m., said Randy Sater, a watch commander with the Bloomingdale fire department.
At least 10 people, including some teenagers, witnessed the suicide and several attempted to help the man by throwing their coats on top of him in an effort to put out the flames, he said.
"He said he didn't want any help and threw the coats off," Sater said.
When one of the first officers tried to speak to the man, who by that time was severely burned, he responded, "I just couldn't take it anymore," Sater said, citing the officer's report.
A manager at the store, who identified himself only as Erwin, said the man was an overnight stocker at the store. He said the store was open this morning and said the man had not been laid off.
He referred further questions to Wal-Mart's corporate office, but a spokesman there could not immediately comment.A 58-year-old Wal-Mart employee who said he "couldn't take it anymore"... more

A British Army interpreter accused of spying for Iran claimed Thursday that he used magic learned in Cuba to protect his commander in Afghanistan.
Cpl. Daniel James, an Iranian immigrant who gained dual citizenship, testified at his trial in the Old Bailey in London, The Guardian reported.
James said he became interested in salsa dancing, made himself into the "king of salsa" and traveled to Cuba because of his interest. There, he said, he learned the practice of Yoruba magic.
When he joined the Territorial Army, James became personal interpreter for Gen. David Richards.
"I actually did black magic for General Richards, praying to God to protect him from the Taliban," James said.
James is charged with violating the Official Secrets Act by passing information to an Iranian diplomat in Kabul.
Prosecutors described James, who worked as a personal trainer in Brighton, as someone with "grandiose ideas about his own importance." A British Army interpreter accused of spying for Iran claimed Thursday that he used... more

BOULDER — 12:20 p.m. - Michelle Obama ended her talk urging the students to get to work.
"Let's start working, because we're going to need you," she said. "We're going to need your prayers, we're going to need your work. We're going to need you to pray, we're going to need you to work. And then after you work, pray a little more. And then after you've prayed, keep working."
12:13 p.m. - Michelle Obama gets to the heart of her rally, talking about voter registration.
"This is a swing state - and we want some swinging to go on right here," she said. She then talked about George W. Bush's slim margin of victory in Colorado in 2004.
"With 170,000 students alone, we can make the difference," she said. "What we're asking right here on the CU campus, register right now. We have a goal of registering 4,100 students on this campus. We are half way there. I am asking you - personally - let's get that goal."
12:10 p.m. - The largest cheers so far came when Michelle Obama addressed the war in Iraq.
"There is only one candidate has a clear timetable to withdraw troops from Iraq responsibly," she said. "And take the $10 billion we are spending every month in Iraq and spending it here."
11:50 a.m. - On stage in front of several hundred Barack Obama supporters, Michelle Obama told a rally at CU that her husband understands working families and the struggles they face.
She said the issues facing the country "are not just politics, it's personal."
The crowd cheered when she said Obama was building his economic plans around the working class.
"There's only one candidate who is talking about that," she said. "There is only one candidate who is talking about health care," and there's only one candidate who is talking about "a comprehensive education progre
Jared Polis, the Democratic nominee in the Second Congressional District, came onto the stage to urge everyone to vote - and vote early.
"The youth vote will make the difference this election," he said, receiving loud cheers. "Let's bring change from CU to D.C."
Maggie Fox, wife of Congressman and U.S. senate candidate Mark Udall, called her husband a "true son of the West" and reminded people that "registering isn't voting." She called on everyone in the crowd to not only vote for the Democrat at the top of the ticket but those all the way down.
Hundreds of middle-aged couples sporting tie-dyeds and Khakis, senior citizens clad in baseball hats and a sprinkling of college students wearing jeans and T-shirts are starting to flood into Farrand Field on the University of Colorado campus to see Michelle Obama. The wife of Democratic presidential
candidate Barack Obama is expected to start speaking at noon, but the line to get into the event is still winding down and around the bike path that cuts through the campus.
Though students on bikes and skateboards zig-zag around the field on their way to class, it appears few of them are actually attending the event.
Obama's presidential campaign is focusing on voter registration in Colorado this week as the deadline to register approaches.
Monday is the deadline for Coloradans to register to vote for the Nov. 4 general election.
This Saturday, the campaign is bringing Hollywood stars to the state. Actors Eva Longoria of "Desperate Housewives," Kal Penn of "House" and the "Harold and Kumar" films, and Adam Rodriguez of "CSI: Miami," are scheduled to speak to students on Saturday at Auraria Campus in Denver, Northern Colorado in Greeley and Colorado State in Fort Collins.

Early this morning, about a dozen University of Colorado students and administrators gathered at a chilly and wet Norlin Quad to plant 6,800 small white flags — each in memory of a young person who died from alcohol in the four years since a CU freshman was found dead from alcohol poisoning.
In the middle of the memorial, which will remain on campus through Wednesday, a single green flag marked the life of Lynn Gordon “Gordie” Bailey Jr..
Bailey, a CU student, was found dead from alcohol poisoning in the Chi Psi fraternity on Sept. 17, 2004. CU student group GORD — Guidelines and Objectives on Responsible Drinking — hopes the memorial will turn some heads for the next five days leading to the anniversary of Bailey’s death.
“It’s a reminder that we’re not invincible,” said Ramon Rodriguez, a CU senior and president of GORD who befriended Bailey in the short few weeks he was a CU student. “Let’s try and change our habits.”
