Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney returned home today after 6 days being held by the government of Israel while attempting with 21 colleagues to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza on the vessel, the Spirit of Humanity.
“Don’t sign Miss Cynthia don’t sign!” So chanted a boisterous group of Palestinian teens and pre-teens in Beirut’s Shatila Refugee Camp demonstrating support for the Freegaza Humanity boat abductees on the 4th of July.
The students understood that those illegally arrested while in International waters had been offered a “get out of Jail Free” pass if they confessed in writing to violating Israel’s territorial waters.
The Spirit of Humanity boat, trying to bring emergency humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, was the topic of a lively discussion during a Sabra Shatila Foundation summer school civics lesson on “International law and the Question of Palestine”. The students were interested in the plight of some of their relatives and countryman in Palestine and the continuing siege of Gaza. Some had just finished their Baccalaureate exams and were wondering how they could continue their education given the severe impediments the government of Lebanon places on Palestinian civil rights, and their post exam relief seemed to energize them for the discussion.
A couple of the students had met Cynthia during her recent visits to Lebanon. When they learned that as a Congresswoman, she had introduced articles of impeachment against Bush, was a consistent anti-war voter during her twelve years in Congress, and that no member in Congress had achieved a more consistent, principled, voting record of issues of civil and human rights, including Palestinian rights, they really connected with the subject of the Freegaza aid boat, the Spirit of Humanity and her travails. “Those supporters of Palestine should not accept a false confession and should stay in Jail if necessary. They are patriots” was a commonly expressed sentiment.
The students understood that in refusing to sign the Israeli government prepared “acknowledgement/confession” the Freegaza group acted consistent with International Law. They learned that territorial waters, as defined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea is a belt of coastal waters extending at most twelve nautical miles from the baseline (usually the mean low-water mark) of a coastal state. The territorial sea is regarded as the sovereign territory of the state, although foreign ships (both military and civilian) are allowed innocent passage through it. They learned from media reports that in any case the Humanity was in International waters and that consequently Israel had no right to molest it.
The class adjourned sharing a general consensus that the Spirit of Humanity, enjoyed and will continue to enjoy on every subsequent humanitarian voyage, these freedoms as well as other internationally lawful uses of the sea within contiguous zones, exclusive economic zones, and on the high seas. Needless to report, were it possible for them, the whole class would like to be on the next Freegaza boat.Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney returned home today after 6 days being held by... more

Israel is literally attempting to committ genocide by way of starvation on the Palestinian people of the Gaza Strip. Nobel Peace Prize laureates, and others including former U.S. Congresswoman, Cynthia McKinney, has been taken hostage by the Israeli government, in International waters, for assisting starving people. This all took place last week during the Michael Jackson death blitz put on by mainstream media.
Neither President Barack Obama, the White House, nor State Department, or any mainstream media outlet has yet said one word about this act of piracy.Israel is literally attempting to committ genocide by way of starvation on the... more

What will it take to change US policy in the Middle East? Former U.S. congresswoman Cynthia McKinney says that little will change as long as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) continues to influence US policy makers. The fact that Israel is violating US law by continuing to supply weapons to a country targeting civilians could be addressed by congress. That is unlikely.
On Capitol Hill last week both the US Senate and House passed resolutions, "recognizing Israel’s Right to Defend Itself Against Attacks from Gaza, and Reaffirming the United States’ Strong Support for Israel." The Senate voted unanimously and the House by a vote of 390 for and five against. Twenty-two representatives voted “present.” Republican Ron Paul, Democrat Dennis Kucinich, Democrat Maxine Waters, Democrat Gwen Moore and Democrat Nick Rahall voted against the resolution.
Chris Hedges, a Senior Fellow at The Nation Institute, Cynthia McKinney, former Congresswoman and the 2008 Green Party Presidential candidate, and MJ Rosenberg, Director of Israel Policy Forum’sWashington Policy Center discuss how we can change U.S. policy in the region. What will it take to change US policy in the Middle East? “Today, November 23rd, I was slated to give remarks in Damascus, Syria at a Conference being held to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and, sadly, the 60th year that the Palestinian people have been denied their Right of Return enshrined in that Universal Declaration. But a funny thing happened to me while at the Atlanta airport on my way to the Conference: I was not allowed to exit the country,” writes McKinney."
This is an example of far we've fallen in America. Citizens prevented from leaving the US. This is an example of a democratic society that is turning into an authoritarian society.
Here are some examples:
***Political stability maintained by "control over and support of the military to provide security to the system and control of society; 2) a pervasive bureaucracy staffed by the regime; 3) control of internal opposition and dissent; 4) creation of allegiance through various means of socialization."
No guarantee of civil liberties or tolerance for meaningful opposition
Weakening of civil society: "No freedom to create a broad range of groups, organizations, and political parties to compete for power or question the decisions of rulers," with instead an "attempt to impose controls on virtually all elements of society"
"Highly concentrated and centralized power structures," in which political power is generated and maintained by a "repressive system that excludes potential challengers" and uses political parties and mass organizations to "mobilize people around the goals of the government"
The following principles: "1) rule of men, not rule of law; 2) rigged elections; 3) all important political decisions made by unelected officials behind closed doors; 4) a bureaucracy operated quite independently of rules, the supervision of elected officials, or concerns of the constituencies they purportedly serve“Today, November 23rd, I was slated to give remarks in Damascus, Syria at a... more

Congress Must Act Before January 20th Or There May Be No Accountability Ever
7,891 Submissions so far
But we the people do not have to wait. We can and must demand the immediate impeachment of both Bush and Cheney for what is already known. At the very least the defiance of congressional subpoenas at the behest of the White House is an open and shut case for accountability now.
Because as his final constitutional insult, his final spit in the face to the American people and all rule of law, it is transparently obvious that Bush is planning the most wholesale and wrongful pardon of the worst political criminals in American history, his whole criminal gang, INCLUDING himself.
The one click form below will send your personal message to all your government representatives selected below, with the subject "Impeach Bush Before He Pardons Himself." At the same time you can send your personal comments only as a letter to the editor of your nearest local daily newspaper if you like.[visit the link to take action]

Citizen Kate discovers a world party and realizes that "being green" is about more than the bling.
I attended The Green Party National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. I was super excited to show off my new green outfit. It's so much easier to dress when there's a theme.
I quickly realized that the Green Party really doesn't care about appearances. They are focused on the truth and social justice and the environment. My dress did dazzle, but what was most impressive were the people that I met there. They were so welcoming to me. I felt loved and love for the world.
They even picked a woman for president, Cynthia McKinney, who then picked another woman for Vice President, Rosa Clemente. If only, I'd gone green sooner, maybe I could have been on the ticket.
Note to self: Not everyone in politics has money, but the Green Party sure does have a lot of love.

I FINALLY registered to vote. I decided to vote thinking about when people of Iraq were standing in line, risking their lives to vote. I thought; why shouldn't I??
Next Step: chosing the right candidate. So I went online and started researching candidates not parties. When I came across Dr. Ron Paul, I was shocked that I hadn't heard from him before. I bought a book called "Ron Paul Speaks by Philip Haddad and Roger Marsh, Ron Paul did the introduction. IThe book is just his quotes on different subjects that would be appealing to anyone. I was very shocked to see how much truth he has revealed, about our Gov't, the Federal Reserve, and reason when he switch this medical career for a political one. After reading and researching Dr. Ron Paul I thought why wouldn't anyone vote for him???
He has been loyaly consistent when he votes, he votes for what he believes in. I should say that I don't think that he is running this year, but I know he is on the voting ballot for president. That was confusing to me. However, I know Dr. Paul has endorsed Chuck Baldwin for President which he holds the same principles and Dr. Ron Paul. Please just give this site a few minutes of your time, it will open yours eyes!!I FINALLY registered to vote. I decided to vote thinking about when people of Iraq... more

Bob Barr and Cynthia McKinney won’t be the only also-rans in the pack of presidential contenders. Most people know about the Libertarian and Green parties’ candidates, but there are others–aside from the Dems’ and the GOP’s, of course–and they have their own ideas about how to govern this country. After reading this, you won’t be able to say that you didn’t know all your options.
Gene Amundson, Prohibition Party: “I’m talking about safety and about economics. The Prohibition years were the last time we had a balanced budget until Nixon. So running is about getting this discussion into the minds of people. Also, there’s no such thing as responsible drinking—it’s a myth.”
Chuck Baldwin, Constitution Party: “The Republican Party has not had a true conservative since Regan. The two Bush presidencies have been unmitigated disasters, and have eroded whatever loyalty to conservative principles that the Republican Party had. So I’m trying to take the message of constitutional government, limited government, personal freedom, and national independence to the American people.”
Charles Jay, Boston Tea Party: “Why wouldn’t I run? is the real question. I’m going to win if I get through to the end, because somewhere along the line, we’re going to change some minds.”
Jackson Kirk Grimes, United Fascist Union: “We must end the reign of terror of the capitalist elite. To correct the flaws in modern society, the United Fascist Union recommends halting the monopolies on utilities; imposing strict censorship on the press; halting urban sprawl; and enacting rules of public conduct that police would enforce rigidly.”
Alan Keyes, America’s Independent Party: “If you really want to see a change in government then we need to restore the credibility of the Republican party—a credibility that has been destroyed by the betrayal of promises to keep government limited and a betrayal that has resulted in outrageously high budget deficits.”
Gloria La Riva, Party for Socialism and Liberation: “As a worker and a union leader who represents workers who are losing their jobs left and right, my run for the presidency is against the corporations, the banks, and big money—the pillars of the American plutocracy.”
Frank McEnulty, New American Independent Party: “Being an independent president would allow me the ability to hire the best person for the job, regardless of the person’s political affiliation. The [current] president has filled his administration based on party loyalty first, with qualifications for the job often coming in second.”
Brian Moore, Socialist Party USA: “It is important that I run to offer all citizens an additional choice of candidates, and to enable them to send a message of protest, dissent, and/or support for the more radical, anti-establishment and anti-status-quo ideas that are never talked about by the two major-party candidates.”
Ralph Nader, Independent: “[Millennials] are the first generation that, when polled, say they’re not going to be as well off as their parents. And the indicators are all coming down: millions of Americans not making a living wage, not even close—Wal-Mart wages, McDonald’s wages, Kmart wages. Just think of that. This is the richest country in the world.”
