The folk never cease to amaze me. Amazing me I suppose is better than frightening me. The folk frightened Alexander Hamilton. Recall that Hamilton was able to get the Constitution ratified in his home state of New York only because he let fellow New Yorkers know a republic and not a democracy was being established. Hamilton feared the concept of allowing the masses to vote. Certainly the history of the republic supports his apprehension. The folk never cease to amaze me. They groped. They skirt-chased. They lusted in their hearts. And now they will live in infamy
Whether politicians cheat is hardly even a question. Why politicians cheat is a question that will never have a satisfactory answer. But which politicians have had the most spectacular, messiest, craziest affairs? That we can get to the bottom of. Philandering is as old as marriage itself, but the twenty-five instances listed here all have some variation on the theme that makes them notable even in the perpetually randy confines of the Beltway. Obviously the list is not exhaustive; as long as there are politicians, it'll never be complete.

NEW YORK - If George Washington were alive today, he might face a hefty overdue library fine.
New York City's oldest library says one of its ledgers shows that the president has racked up 220 years' worth of late fees on two books he borrowed, but never returned.
One of the books was the "Law of Nations," which deals with international relations. The other was a volume of debates from Britain's House of Commons.
Both books were due on Nov. 2, 1789.
New York Society Library head librarian Mark Bartlett says the institution isn't seeking payment of the fines, but would love to get the books back.
The ledger also lists books being taken out by other founding fathers, including Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr and John Jay.
The entry on Washington simply lists the borrower as "president."

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Those who fear an armed citizenry should have the intellectual honesty to work to change the words of the 2nd Amendment, instead of assigning non-existent meanings to those words or ignoring them altogether.
"When a government betrays the people by amassing too much power and becoming tyrannical, the people have no choice but to exercise their original right of self defense- to fight the government."
Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers 28
