Gov. Chris Christie has signed the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights—which aims to improve anti-bullying practices in New Jersey's schools.
Under the legislation, a school administrator is subject to discipline if he or she fails to conduct an investigation of a known incident of bullying, or if the administrator reasonably should have been aware of a problem and failed to take action.

At a press conference this afternoon with several Senators calling out Republicans for blocking middle-class tax cuts, Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) escalated the Dem rhetoric by comparing the GOP's my-way-or-the-highway posture to the demands of terrorists.
Responding to a reporter pressing Dems to explain why the haven't put forth a compromise that can pass the Senate, Menendez said a quickly negotiated solution might not be in the best interest of the nation.
"Does the majority not only have the responsibility to try to [get something done, but] to get something done that makes sense for the country," he said. "Do you allow yourself to be held hostage, and get something done for the sake of getting something done, when in fact it may be perverse in its ultimate result."
Then he added: "It's almost like a question of, Do you negotiate with terrorists?"
No doubt we'll be treated to a flood of (understandably) angry GOP denunciations. The question is whether Menendez "clarifies" his remarks when that happens, or whether he sticks to his guns.At a press conference this afternoon with several Senators calling out Republicans for... more

NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A pastor who said Facebook was a "portal to infidelity" and told married church leaders to delete their accounts or resign once testified that he had a three-way sexual relationship with his wife and a male church assistant.
The Rev. Cedric Miller confirmed the information reported Saturday by the Asbury Park Press of Neptune, which cited testimony he gave in a criminal case in 2003. The relationship had ended by that time.
Miller gained national attention when he issued the Facebook edict this week. He said it came about because much of the marital counseling he has performed over the past year and a half has concerned infidelity stemming from the social-networking website.
The 48-year-old leader of Living Word Christian Fellowship Church in Neptune Township had claimed Facebook ignites old passions, and he ordered about 50 married church officials to delete their accounts with the social networking site or resign from their leadership positions.
Miller had previously asked married congregants to share their login information with their spouses - as he does - and now plans to suggest that they give up Facebook altogether. The minister also said he would leave the site this week.
In court testimony he gave in April 2003, Miller said his wife had an extramarital affair with the church assistant. Miller said he participated in many of the sexual encounters and said the assistant's wife was sometimes present, too.

If you’re unfamiliar with Flugtag, you are missing out.
Red Bull’s Flugtag (German for Airshow) is an amazing craze that was first popularized in 1991. Due to popularity, it has since been run every year in over 35 cities around the world. The rules are simple: build an aircraft that meets Red Bull’s guidelines, launch yourself from a 30 foot deck, stay flying as long as you can, and eventually careen into the river below.
What could be better?
On September 4th, 2010, Thirty-Four teams got in line to launch their manned aircrafts over, and into the Delaware. Check out the video highlights of the event here:

Undrafted Giants rookie on Cruz control after 3 TD catches
August is routinely littered with undrafted NFL free agents who look like All-Pros in training camp and then disappear in games.
Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz avoided that brush in high style last night. The rookie from UMass picked up right where he left off on the Albany practice field, electrifying the crowd at New Meadowlands Stadium's football debut with three second-half touchdown grabs in a 31-16 preseason win over the Jets.
****** Cruz, a Paterson, N.J. native *******
who is battling for the Giants' final receiver spot, did nothing to hurt that bid by hooking up with backup quarterback Jim Sorgi twice and Rhett Bomar once to cement the win after Big Blue fell behind 16-10.
"It's definitely a surreal feeling to be on this podium talking to you guys," said Cruz, whose performance even resulted in a Twitter shout-out from LeBron James. "Growing up watching the Giants, seeing that blue all my life -- I feel like I'm dreaming right now."
Of course, Cruz's big night -- he finished with a team-high six catches for 145 yards -- was nothing new to anyone who has watched the 6-foot-1, 200-pound target excel on the practice fields.
Sensing an opportunity to make the roster after Domenik Hixon's season-ending knee injury and a host of bumps and bruises that have battered the Giants' receiving corps, Cruz was routinely lighting up workouts.
Coach Tom Coughlin praised him loudly to reporters, and that proclamation looked even more prescient last night after Cruz had his way with the Jets' backups in the second half, suddenly bringing an otherwise sleepy preseason affair to life.
Cruz struck first with 2:40 left in the third, when he used one hand to corral a long Sorgi throw over Jets backup corner Dwight Lowery down the left sideline. After Lowery slipped, Cruz scooted the rest of the way for the score.
To be fair, Cruz appeared to help his case generously by giving a shove to Lowery's facemask during the play, but no flag was thrown and the rookie's "Monday Night Football" moment was sealed.
Except for one thing: Cruz wasn't done. Far from it, in fact.
Sorgi suddenly had a new favorite target in the fourth quarter, and Cruz made the most of garbage time with three more catches for 60 yards, including a 34-yard scoring grab down the left sideline over veteran backup linebacker Lance Laury to make it 24-16 with 13 minutes left.
Cruz then hauled in a five-yard jump ball in the right corner of the end zone from Bomar with 2:24 left.
Even after Hixon's injury, Cruz appeared to be a longshot to make the Giants' roster. But last night's boffo performance combined with the continuing disappointment that is Sinorice Moss could cause Coughlin to create room for Cruz.
That's right... from Paterson, NJ...

http://www.queerty.com/did-some-of-new-jerseys-supreme-court-justices-refuse-gay-marriage-case-because-they-fear-losing-their-jobs-20100816/
The New Jersey Supreme Court doesn't give interviews, so no one can ask whether the tribunal balked on the gay marriage issue because it was afraid of the reaction of Gov. Chris Christie.
"There won't be any comment," says Winnie Comfort, a spokeswoman for the court. "Of course, people are free to speculate. There is nothing we can do about that."
Comfort made the comments in response to remarks by legislators who raised the issue of whether the court — or, at least, three members — might have been afraid to touch the gay marriage case because Christie can remove them by appointing other justices. The way he did to Justice John Wallace, the court's only African-American.
Both state Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union) and Assemblyman John D. McKeon (D-Essex) told The Star-Ledger's Matt Friedman the decision raised the question of whether Wallace's ouster led three non-permanent court members to duck the issue.
Those members — Chief Justice Stuart Rabner and Justices Roberto Rivera-Soto and Helen Hoens — voted against a motion to have the court immediately revisit its earlier decision in the Lewis vs. Harris case that, in 2006 ruled the Legislature must provide marriage-like rights to same-sex couples. The court then left the details up to lawmakers and they decided to create "civil unions" rather than extend marriages to gays and lesbians.
The three judges who don't have to worry about reappointment — Justices Virginia Long, Jaynee LaVecchia, and Barry Albin dissented from the order. They wanted arguments on the motion to go forward. Coincidence?
"I think the three justices who voted against the motion looked over their shoulders and saw Chris Christie," says Frank Askin, a Rutgers Law School professor and constitutional scholar in Newark. "There is no question in my mind that fear of what the Governor would do played a part in that decision."
Michael Drewniak, Christie's spokesman, declined to answer questions about the decision.
The state court action contrasts with the robust ruling handed down by federal Judge Vaughn Walker who overturned a California plebiscite — Proposition 8 — banning gay marriages. Forget worrying about a governor, Walker rejected the will of the state's voters because, he ruled, Proposition 8 "violates the due process and equal protection rights" of gays seeking to marry.
Walker's decision chews through the arguments of opponents of gay marriage, refuting contentions gay marriages are unstable and that children raised by gay parents do less well than kids from heterosexual households. He also makes it obvious supporters of Proposition 8 were trying to inject their religious views into law.
"The evidence presented at trial," Walker wrote, "fatally undermines the premises underlying proponents' proffered rationales for Proposition 8."
New Jersey once had a supreme court willing to render significant decisions. Under chiefs like Joseph Weintraub, Richard Hughes, Robert Wilentz, James Zazzali and Deborah Poritz, the state's highest court was a national leader in individual rights.
It is often in state courts that individual rights are most effectively protected. New Jersey's decisions on school funding and fair housing — also now endangered — went far beyond what the federal courts would do.
Even Walker's decision, for all the hype it has generated, could set back the cause. Rutgers Law Professor Carlos Bell, an expert on gay marriage, explains it could lead to an adverse decision by a conservative U.S. Supreme Court:
"That is why most of the other same-sex marriage lawsuits (including New Jersey's Lewis v. Harris) have been brought in state courts alleging violations of state constitutions. When a case is decided on state constitutional grounds, it cannot be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
"It is likely the court will hear the Proposition 8 case. The upside for gay people of a favorable decision is tremendous: It would mean same-sex couples all over the country would have to be afforded the opportunity to marry. But the downside is also great: It would mean a Supreme Court decision, which would likely stay on the books for a long time, holding gay people are not entitled to marry under the federal constitution."
Maybe too much has been read into the state court action. Even Steve Goldstein, the chairman of Garden State Equality, the state's leading proponent of gay rights, says "it's not a dooms-day scenario — we'll get our day in court."
Perhaps. But a lot is at stake, and one has to wonder — do the three judges up for reappointment really think Christie will keep them no matter what they do?
This looks more like an opportunity to make history rather than curry favor.http://www.queerty.com/did-some-of-new-jerseys-supreme-court-justices-refuse-gay-marria... more

Asw Mary Pat Angelini's legislative office number is 732-974-1719 - promoted by Rosi
I usually don't pay much mind to press releases, but today I read a few of them as I was asked to help draft one myself. And when I saw this press release from Republican Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini about a husband who pretty much raped his wife and the need for a court to order a restraining order, I thought, well, good for the Assemblywoman for getting behind women's health issues.
And then I wondered what her position is on providing medical funding to women like this one - women who are in need of medical care in the event of rape or other crisis and otherwise can't afford to pay themselves.
Of course, Angelini was one of the "no" votes when it came to funding women's health services, so it strikes me as nothing more than using a woman's personal nightmare and horror to score cheap political points.
If Angelini and her Republican colleagues - ESPECIALLY those who are female - have any conscience whatsoever, they will vote for what is right as opposed to with their chauvinistic Governor. This includes those in the Senate who are now cowardly changing their votes as well as those in the Assembly like Angelini who find it ok to use something as personal and horrific as a rape (let alone by a spouse) - which is the exact term that Angelini used in her press release - but then slap these same women in the face when it comes to something more than just grandstanding.
This is shameful and disgusting.Asw Mary Pat Angelini's legislative office number is 732-974-1719 - promoted by... more

The International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) has long been attempting to gain recognition as a consulting group with the United Nations, a status which would grant them access and the ability to comment officially on critical LGBT issues such as the murder and imprisonment of LGBT people around the world. In June, IGLHRC's recognition was blocked by Egypt "on behalf of all African nations."
After the U.S. delegation promised to pressure the UN on IGLHRC's behalf, Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) vowed to stop them. Smith, who voted against the Matthew Shepard Act and other LGBT rights laws, says IGLHRC plans to muzzle anybody who preaches that homosexuality is immoral. He wrote the UN a lengthy letter demanding that they again decline IGLHRC's application.
Backing up Rep. Smith is the Christianist outfit Family Watch International, who has launched a petition campaign to the United Nations.
The IGLHRC is already pressuring a number of UN member states to change their laws to advance sexual rights. When the application was put on hold, the U.S. reacted very aggressively and announced that it was planning to take an unprecedented move to bypass the UN Committee on NGOs and go directly to the full ECOSOC body to try to ram the approval through. This has never been done before, and it has caused quite a stir among the UN delegations of many of the developing nations around the world. So we have a situation where the Obama administration is again putting support for the radical homosexual agenda above virtually all other considerations. In light of what this administration is doing domestically, we should not be surprised, but in this case, the United States government’s almost obsessive quest to advance sexual rights has been exposed to the whole world, and this should concern every American.
Once again, the American Christianist right is actively working to enable the murder, abuse, and imprisonment of LGBT people outside the United States.
