LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles Police Department commanding officer has been removed amid an internal investigation into a videotaped beating in which officers tackled a handcuffed registered nurse to the ground, police Chief Charlie Beck said Wednesday.
Beck said previously that he had "serious concerns" about the use of force against Michelle Jordan, 34, who was arrested in the Tujunga area on Aug. 21 after being stopped for talking on a cellphone while driving, police said.
Jordan got out of the car and cursed the two officers who stopped her, witnesses and Jordan's husband told KNBC-TV.
Fast-food restaurant surveillance video obtained by the TV station (bit.ly/NVptHP ) showed officers taking her to the ground. After she is handcuffed and walked to a police car, the 5-foot-4 woman is tackled a second time by an officer who lands on top of her.
"She made some unwise moves," her attorney, Sy Nazif, told the station. "But certainly nothing that warranted a physical assault from the LAPD."
Photos show scrapes on Jordan's face, shoulders and chest.
The officers involved in the incident have been removed from patrol duty until an LAPD investigation is complete. One is a 22-year veteran and the other is a probationary officer with 10 months on the force.
Beck said at a news conference Wednesday that Capt. Joseph Hitner of the department's Foothill Division was "severely deficient in his response," Beck said.

Amy Blose, 38-year-old woman from Norman, Oklahoma, has pleaded no contest to 24 counts of sexual misconduct with a 13-year-old boy.
Blose was arrested in April 2011 for allegedly raping a 13-year-old boy and she faced three counts of rape in first degree, victim under the age of 14; three counts of forcible oral sodomy, victim under the age of 16; one count of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16; and one count of performing lewd acts in the presence of a child under 16.
According to the victim ahe and Blose had several sexual encounters in her home since January 2010. Police said the boy said he and Blose had sex in her house and the last time it happened was on Jan. 5 2011. Blose was booked into custody at the Cleveland County Jail and later released on $150,000 bond.
While Bose was out on bail awaiting prosecution on child rape charges, she reportedly violated the terms of her release by contacting her victim. Special Judge Michael Tupper revoked the bail following a hearing in which a 15-year-old girl described slipping the boy a note from Blose.
The girl, a student at Norman High School, said Blose gave her a ride to school recently, but before dropping her off at the school, Blose took her to a Sonic Drive-in. The girl said Blose wrote a note to the 13-year-old boy, hid it inside a burrito and asked her to deliver it to the boy.

The Art of Bleeding produces ego-destabilizing programs on safety and medical education for both live and video presentation. Often staged from an actual ambulance, our performances utilize a perturbing mix of cartoonish costumes, puppets, vintage educational films, animation, and thinly veiled medical fetishism to create a sort of “paramedical funhouse” in which the groping ego may ultimately experience TRUE SAFETY CONSCIOUSNESS....The Art of Bleeding will present their “magic ambulance theater” show titled Halloween Highway 2, at the Steve Allen Theater - Los Angeles, on October 28, 29 and 30, 2011 starting at 8 PM each evening. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/bizzareweird/43019-art-of-bleeding-ambulance-show-The Art of Bleeding produces ego-destabilizing programs on safety and medical... more

I remember at the time thinking how were the media allowed to post pictures of this girl while the investigation was still on going and she was merely a suspect. Her face plastered across every news site, and not just the trashy rags you'd expect it from.
Now after being released without charge she lives in fear after the British media portrayed her as a drink addicted wild child guilty of multiple murders.
How were they allowed to get away with it in the first place?
Video is at the link
"Rebecca Leighton, the nurse who was released without charge after police investigations into fatal saline contamination at Stepping Hill hosptial in Stockport, has spoken about her ordeal for the first time.
Rebecca Leighton was arrested in July after three patients at Stepping Hill hospital died, and her fingerprints were found on a contaminated bag of saline.
"I'm a bit scared", she told ITV's This Morning, and "I can't walk down the street on my own".
Critical of the way she was portrayed in the media after her arrest, she said images taken from her Facebook page were normal for "a 27-year-old girl that goes out with friends".
She also spoke about her "passion" for nursing."I remember at the time thinking how were the media allowed to post pictures of this... more

The Rockefeller petrochemical empire has created a major economic force that directly forced and squeezed out almost all naturopathic knowledge from the medical schools in the US.
Natural medicine was suddenly excluded from medical school curriculum as the main underwriters of all medical colleges in the U.S. were based on what the petrochemical drug companies have provided.
However Homeopath David Mayer de Rothschild is against such practices of harming the planet with his ecology plans.
What Can We Do to Save the Planet from Big Pharma?

The death toll for the cholera outbreak in Haiti is now 1,400 with more nurses and doctors needed to cope with the epidemic. So far the world bank announced £6.3m in emergency grants for the country.
""But it's not just money, it's crucially people, in terms of getting more doctors, nurses, more people who can help with the awareness-raising and getting information out there," she said.
The UN would reach out to countries and aid organisations with the potential to rapidly supply medical staff, she said - for example Cuba, which already has about 400 doctors and other health workers in Haiti. "-BBC
UN officials have already called the international response to the outbreak as insufficient, after it is reported more medical staff are needed to control and decrease the % of people dying from Cholera.
"Merlin will give basic health information alongside these supplies, and we have prepared key messages on cholera prevention and treatment to give to both staff and patients in these health centres. Our teams have also trained 31 agents de santé to spread these messages in camps around Port-au-Prince. The independent reports on the job cuts faced by the NHS, which was stated to be safe from the government's spending review. One figure stated by the Royal College of Nurses estimated 27,000 posts will be lost in the NHS with 3,800 in Wales.
"Across the UK, the RCN said almost 27,000 NHS posts were already earmarked for cuts, despite health service spending being "ring-fenced" in England.
The posts identified included nurses, midwives, health care assistants, clinical support staff, doctors, medical consultants and administrative staff"-http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-11737951
Independent connects the cuts in NHS spending to the £20bn savings needed by 2014 to cope with an ageing population and the realistic 0.5% cut in the NHS.
"The NHS was awarded a real-terms rise of 0.1 per cent a year in the spending review last month. But £1bn a year of that is to be diverted to social care and up to £300m will go on next year's VAT rise, leaving the NHS facing a real terms cut of 0.5 per cent."-IndependentThe independent reports on the job cuts faced by the NHS, which was stated to be safe... more
