Let's get the obvious objections out of the way: yes, David Lee Roth is the *real* lead singer of Van Halen, and no, despite our company's stated political non-bias, we in the PDG don't generally reserve words like 'love' and 'admire' for serial Bush campaign donors...
...but as we searched for someone to honor with our September CMS release - someone who exemplifies the spirit of efficient EPG entry workflow, who captures our hearts much as we now capture richer media file metadata, who knows the ins and outs of enhanced secondary event trigger timecode validation, one name kept rising to the forefront, one figure who truly defines the spirit of rock-n-roll, entrepreneurial daring, and indeed the rugged individualistic ethos of America itself.
That figure is, of course, the curly-maned scourge of the highway patrol, the golden-throated front man with the romantic heart, the Midas-fingered impresario of the high-end tequila market, the Red Rocker himself, Mr. Samuel Roy "Sammy" Hagar.
From the early days with Montrose, inverted hand on hip like Robert Plant's younger American brother, to gradual but inevitable solo success, to the multi-platinum Van Halen years, to the never-ending Cabo San Lucas party of his golden years, Mr. Hagar has led a charmed life - a life lived on his terms - loud, raucous and balls-to-the-wall - a life that, were our internal content management and publishing platform a person, we would like for it to live.
So we ask you to join us, take a seat, pour a velvety-smooth tumbler of Cabo Wabo Anejo, clear the throat, warm up the vocal cords, and give your best rock-n-roll shriek to the heavens in honor of Mr. Hagar. Are you addicted to success?
"Like a drug, professional success can induce a feeling of ecstasy that quickly feels essential. Recapturing that feeling can require greater and greater feats, a phenomenon that -- more than simple greed -- explains the drive for ever-larger bonuses and conquests. "With riches, success and fame ... you find that greater and greater doses of your 'upper' are needed to become 'high,' " David Burns, a Stanford University psychiatrist and pioneer of cognitive behavioral therapy, writes in his 1980 book "Feeling Good."
Often reinforcing the achievement cycle are colleagues who share the view that large bonuses, medical breakthroughs or great works of journalism are the only important measures of worth. One solution -- simpler in theory than execution -- is to broaden one's circle of friends and colleagues.
One of the biggest fears for holders of respected positions is the potential loss of public esteem. Therapists say the high achiever often holds self-defeating double standards, feeling sympathetic toward the unemployed while assuming that unemployment would bring him only shame."Are you addicted to success?

Frank Stallone. Dom DiMaggio. Roger Clinton. Charlie Murphy. Patrick McEnroe. Marvin Bush. Eddie Bird. Ramon Estevez. Sounds like a who's who of the entertainment and sporting industry of the past several decades, a veritable treasure trove of cinematic, comedic, athletic, political, and musical genius. That may be so, but the aforementioned individuals are of course best known for their more famous siblings, a tragedy when you consider their vast talent and achievements.
And as impressive as this list is, there's one name that stands out among the elite crowd of less-famous siblings, a shining beacon of luminescence in a sea of sparkling diamonds.
Jermaine LaJune Jackson was born on December 11, 1954 in Gary, Indiana, and developed his musical talents at an early age, becoming the lead singer of the Jackson Five until younger brother Michael began to assist on lead vocals in 1967. As the flashier Michael increasingly took center stage, it was Jermaine's soulful vocals and James Jamerson-inspired bass playing that provided much of the band's signature sound.
After 14 years of performing with his brothers, Jermaine embarked on a solo career in 1975, with numerous top 20 hits over the following years - even hitting #1 twice on the ultracompetitive Belgian pop charts. Though he may have been overshadowed by younger siblings Michael and Janet, Jermaine's versatility, musicality, and undeniable talent has been a constant source of inspiration worldwide... and for that reason we dedicate our January CMS release to him.
The ability to create multiple rights clauses gives our legal team a newfound versatility reminiscent of Jermaine's triple threat attack of singing, dancing and bass playing, and the slick user interface for entering those rights is an electronic parallel to Jermaine's stylish appearance. And while gems like 1976's Bass Odyssey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZbJ8OfnjAg) are not new, their discovery can be a revelation, much like clicking the 'Music' tab on the CMS search page to realize that one can search for pods by cue sheet song info.
So Current.com users, please join us in paying tribute to this masterful artist, and we look forward to mining the fertile list of 'F' names for February!Frank Stallone. Dom DiMaggio. Roger Clinton. Charlie Murphy. Patrick McEnroe.... more

George Bernard Shaw once said that "the function of the actor is to make the audience imagine for the moment that real things are happening to real people -- indeed, to make the audience feel and learn things about themselves of which they might not have been aware, yet know to be true." In the past half century, no actor has fulfilled that noble function as effectively and as gloriously as the great Dick Van Patten.
From the 1930s, when he appeared in over a dozen Broadway plays, to recent appearances in shows such as Arrested Development and The Sarah Silverman Show, Mr. Van Patten's career has read like a true American history of the past 70 years, varied and personal, triumphant and dramatic, humble and victorious. The list of credits reads like a who's who of our lives of entertainment: Mama, Mike Hammer, Rawhide, I Dream of Jeannie, Sanford and Son, the Love Boat, Wonder Woman, The Streets of San Francisco, Happy Days, Charo and the Sergeant... the list is seemingly inexhaustible.
Sheer quantity is one thing, but what sets the truly great actor apart from the rest is his ability, like a Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan, to make the rest of the cast better. It is no accident that the finest moments of the careers of Willie Aames and Adam Rich came in their roles as Tommy and Nicholas Bradford of Eight is Enough. And would there have been a Karate Kid if Ralph Macchio hadn't spent time learning at the foot of the master in season five? It's doubtful.
Whether as fiery columnist patriarch Tom Bradford of Eight is Enough, as dastardly King Roland in Spaceballs, as a carnival barker in the psychedelic Western Zachariah, or as the devious pink-tanktop-clad hustler in the side-splittingly hilarious Dick Van Patten's Dirty Tennis, Mr. Van Patten has always been a real person facing real trials and tribulations, bringing us real tears and real belly laughter, creating real memories to be cherished in the years to come.
In honor of these decades of service we name our December CMS release for the legendary Dick Van Patten – may our new syndication feature be as successful as the syndicated run of Eight is Enough, and may all our users have a festive holiday season, as the Bradfords of Sacramento are surely enjoying as I type.George Bernard Shaw once said that "the function of the actor is to make the... more

Inventor Le Trung, 33, created Aiko, said to be “in her 20s” with a stunning 32, 23, 33 figure, shiny hair and delicate features.
She even remembers his favourite drink and does simple cleaning and household tasks.
"Fem-bot" Aiko, who has cost £14,000 to build so far, is a whizz at maths and even does Le’s accounts.
Le, a scientific genius from Brampton in Ontario, Canada, said he never had time to find a real partner so he designed one using the latest technology.
He said he did not build Aiko as a sexual partner, but said she could be tweaked to become one.
“Her software could be redesigned to simulate her having an orgasm and reacting to touch as if she is playing hard to get or being straight to the point,” he said.
The former software programmer has taken out credit cards and loans, sold his car and spent his life savings on perfecting the machine.
“I want to make her look, feel and act as human as possible so she can be the perfect companion,” said Le.
The odd looking pair go out for drives together in the Canadian countryside, before sitting down at the dinner table, but Aiko never eats anything.

Men of higher intelligence tend to produce better quality sperm, UK research suggests.
A team from the Institute of Psychiatry analysed data from former US soldiers who served during the Vietnam war era.
They found that those who performed better on intelligence tests tended to have more - and more mobile - sperm.
The study, which appears in the journal Intelligence, appears to support the idea that genes underlying intelligence may have other biological effects too.
Therefore, if tiny mutations impair intelligence, they might also harm other characteristics, such as sperm quality.
Conversely, people with robust genes might be blessed with a biological "fitness factor" making them fit, healthy and smart.
Previously, scientists tended to assume that lifestyle factors were more likely to underlie any relationship between intelligence and health.
For instance, brighter people may be less likely to smoke, and more likely to take exercise, both of which are known to impact on mental performance.
Different characteristics
The latest study tested the gene theory by taking two characteristics that seemed unlikely to be associated with each other - intelligence and sperm quality.
They found a small, but statistically significant link, and were able to show that this could not be explained by unhealthy habits, such as smoking or drinking alcohol.
The study was based on 425 men who undertook several intelligence tests and provided semen samples.
The researchers found that independently of age and lifestyle, intelligence was correlated with all three measures of sperm quality - numbers, concentration, and ability to move.
Lead researcher Dr Rosalind Arden said: "This does not mean that men who prefer Play-Doh to Plato always have poor sperm: the relationship we found was marginal.
"But our results do support the theoretically important 'fitness factor' idea.
"We look forward to seeing if the results can be replicated in other data sets, with other measures of intelligence and other measures of physical health that are also strongly related to evolutionary fitness."
Dr Allan Pacey is an expert in fertility at the University of Sheffield.
He said: "The fact that it's possible to detect a statistical relationship between intelligence and semen quality in adult men probably says more about the co-development of brain and testicles when the man was in his mother's womb, and therefore how well they both function in adult life, rather than suggesting that playing Sudoku can somehow stimulate more sperm to be produced.
"The improvement in semen quality with intelligence observed in this paper is small and therefore it is unlikely to have a big impact on the ability of men of different intelligences to conceive."Men of higher intelligence tend to produce better quality sperm, UK research suggests.... more

Her life has lurched from one drama to another since she landed a £2million Lottery jackpot aged just 16.
Now Callie Rogers has added another chapter to her troubled story after being locked in police cells after a raid on her home over alleged cocaine dealing.
Her arrest comes after a stormy five years during which she has posed topless after having her breasts enlarged, taken back the on-off boyfriend who slept with her younger sister and been accused of a drunken brawl outside a nightclub.
The 21-year-old, who has two young children, was seized in a drugs raid at the semi-detached house she bought with her winnings in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
She was later released without charge after Wednesday's operation, but a man arrested with her yesterday appeared in court charged with supplying cocaine and possessing a stun gun.
It is the second time drugs officers have raided her home and comes after the father of her children, Nicky Lawson, tried to sell newspapers photographs of her naked and allegedly snorting cocaine.
As a fresh-faced teenager working at a local supermarket, Miss Rogers hit the headlines in 2003 when she won £1,875,000 on the Lottery, becoming Britain's second youngest jackpot winner.
By that stage she had already known hardship, having dropped out of school and placed herself and her sister in care because of a troubled home life.
Soon afterwards she bought a car so her then boyfriend could chauffeur her around, only for him to disappear with it, and eventually met the unreliable Mr Lawson, who has a number of criminal convictions.
They had a son Kian, now three, but split up several times amid allegations that the forklift truck driver had written himself cheques totalling more than £50,000 from her bank account.
In 2005 police raided her home and arrested three men on suspicion of dealing drugs. She wasn't there at the time.
The following year she was arrested over an alleged nightclub assault but not charged.
Miss Rogers attempted suicide and started seeing a lorry driver but eventually took Mr Lawson back, even though he had cheated on her with her teenage sister.
She and the 28-year-old now have a second child, a daughter, Debonay, one.
Miss Rogers was not at home today but in an interview earlier this year she claimed to be coming to terms with handling her life-changing wealth for the first time.
'I used to blame winning the Lottery for a lot of my problems but it wasn't the cause - it just brought more attention,' she said.
'Today I am glad I won the money. I couldn't have afforded to have my children so young otherwise.
'I'm a fighter and my life is settling down. I am very happy.'
Despite her problems she has looked after her millions - her modest home is worth more than when she bought it, she drives a second-hand Range Rover, and her clothes are from High Street fashion brands.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said the arrests took place after officers obtained a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
'Following that raid we arrested a 21-year-old female from Whitehaven on suspicion of possession of cocaine with intent to supply,' he said. 'She was later released with no further action.'
Ryan Thompson, 20, from Whitehaven, is due to appear in court today charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply, three counts of supplying cocaine and possessing a weapon. Her life has lurched from one drama to another since she landed a £2million... more

"In the U.S., police officers detained about 78,000 people in 2007 for prostitution-related crimes, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Only about 10 percent of these arrests are of the sex patrons, who almost exclusively are men.
Men’s motives for buying sex are hotly contested among researchers. Some believe the practice serves as a salve for common psychological afflictions, such as an unfulfilled craving for sex or romance. Others, meanwhile, paint a dimmer portrait of johns, believing they are driven by chauvinistic motives, such as a desire to dominate and control women.
Of course, the simplest explanation for men buying sex is that they like it. After all, people are generally willing to pay for activities they enjoy as much as they do sex. On the other hand, a man can usually get sex for free in the context of an ordinary intimate relationship. So why pay good money for it, especially given the social and health risks of having sex with a prostitute? Are all johns so unappealing that they cannot get sex any other way?"

Studies have shown that kids between the ages of 12 and 17 are twice as likely to become pregnant, or get somebody pregnant, if they know only what they see on TV.
"There is a barrage of sexual information that teens are exposed to every day," said Deb Riddell, a practicing nurse and certified midwife.
It's no wonder, observers say, that the rate of diagnosed sexually transmitted diseases is on the rise among teenagers. At their age, they are more likely to have multiple partners -- and more high-risk partners -- and their bodies are more susceptible to infection than a fully developed adult.
"We're not talking about a rare occurrence," said Riddell. "It's an everyday occurrence in most practitioners' offices."
So what is a parent to do to decrease the likelihood that their child does not become another one of these statistics?
The answer: Talk to them, and talk to them early.

The secret to staying madly in love for life is hidden at the heart of your brain - a finding that may lead to new strategies for keeping alive passionate partnerships, say New York scientists.
Researchers led by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine recruited 17 men and women who still love their spouses intensely after two decades of marriage, then scanned their brains as they saw their loved ones' photos. When they compared the results with scans of 17 people who had fallen in love in the previous year, they found that the same area of the brain, the ventral tegmental area, lit up.
One of the authors, Helen Fisher, told the Society for Neuroscience's annual meeting this week: “If you ask people around the world whether romantic love can last, they'll roll their eyes and say ‘probably not'. Most textbooks say that too. We are proving them wrong.”

Every couple of decades or so, a band comes along that changes everything. Existing musical genres are shattered as new terrain is charted, to be explored in the years to come by those who dare follow. Styles change in reaction – clothing, hairdos, street lingo – as the young and not-so-young strive to be a part of the new movement, the new social consciousness spawned by this mystical alchemy of vital, youthful genius.
In the 40s it was Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and the Bebop movement of 52nd Street and Minton's in Harlem. In the 60s it was the Beatles and the British Invasion. In 1990 it was the stupefyingly astonishing concoction of bittersweet vocal harmony, the singing, jangling, screaming guitarwork, and the majestic MTV video wizardry conjured by the flaxen-haired twins known as Nelson.
It it with this in mind that we, the PDG, in 2008, dedicate our November release to the inspiring body of work bestowed upon us by brothers Gunnar and Matthew Nelson – who in so many ways were like the Broadcast and Online version types of the MTV era. This is truly a (pre and post) watershed moment in CMS history, much like the first airing of "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection." on VH1. May this release touch everyone's heart as Matthew and Gunnar did and continue to do, and dare we say, be known as the "After the Rain" of CMS releases for decades to come...Every couple of decades or so, a band comes along that changes everything. New plans to reform the laws governing teenage sex in Scotland could "criminalise" young teenage girls for having intercourse, MSPs have been told. The bill confirms it is an offence for children between 13 and 15 to have sex – and this applies to girls as well as boys.
Professor Kathleen Marshall said that the proposal, which could see girls facing prosecution for consensual sex in the same way as boys, should be abandoned until its likely consequences can be studied. She warned that the move could have a range of unintended consequences – including criminalising young girls and discouraging them from seeking medical advice.
The government decision ignores a previous report by the Scottish Law Commission which recommended consensual sex between older children should not be a criminal offence, and should instead be grounds for referral to a children's reporter on welfare grounds, effectively decriminalising sex between youngsters over 13.
A Scottish Government policy document published with the bill said: "We have adopted this approach as we believe that the way in which the law currently acts to criminalise only boys (where the activity is consensual and both are of similar age) is discriminatory."

SCIENTISTS have found proof that some guys really do have all the luck when it comes to the opposite sex.
Their research showed that throughout history small numbers of men have fathered children with large amounts of women.
The results published in online journal PLoS Genetics showed that the female X chromosome was much more varied than non-sex chromosomes, known as autosomes.
This is the opposite of what would be expected in populations with an equal number of breeding men and women, the study said.
