The dollar was given the responsibility of being the world’s reserve currency, so nobody should be surprised that the US has to bailout some foreign banks, Congressman Ron Paul told RT in an exclusive interview.
There is great Federal Reserve involvement overseas and the American people have to indirectly pay for this.
“Since 1971 [the dollar] was given much more power and privilege than it deserved,” believes the congressman.
“At the time, after World War II, we had all the gold and we had the economic might and we were not beaten down, but eventually though, what happened, they started using dollars as if they were gold and they put it into reserves. And now, because they still trust the dollar to a large degree – why don’t we print the dollars – we can bail out anybody: we can bail out California, we can bail out GM, we can bail out all the banks, we can bail out Greece – now they are talking about helping the entire EU – but there is a limit, the market will limit it – politics won’t,” Paul said. He added that if politicians continue to think they can manage the situation, they will fail and people will lose confidence in the dollar.
Ron Paul agreed that the US government’s unprecedented bailout program “was not completely wrong” and was introduced to evade depression of the American economy because industries were depressed. He said the companies that were accustomed to living off debt and living off easy credit and got themselves in trouble – they definitely had “depression” – the likes of GM and banks involved in a derivatives scheme.
“Instead we printed the money and bailed them out, arguing ‘we don’t want anybody that had depression’. So what did they do? They transferred all that debt onto the taxpayer – but the little guy got stuck – who lost their jobs?” Paul pointed out.
They refused to help small businesses or help people out of their mortgages because the current American financial system works for the benefit of big banks and big corporations, therefore everybody from the military-industrial complex to the banks and banking system likes the state of things, believes Paul.
He said politicians also like the system because for decades congressmen could vote for whatever they thought was necessary. The deficits did not matter that much, being covered by raising taxes, borrowing money and the Fed manipulating interest rates, keeping them low and passing them out.
“The system was indorsed by many people, even by the people who had houses and did well for a while – the average person on the street did benefit,” Paul said, but when the crisis came, “the big guys got bailout, making a lot of money, and the little guys got stuck with mortgages that they could not pay.”
And after all the financial bubbles that were allowed to grow in the US, the final conclusion is that “The Fed should not be allowed to monetize debt,” he noted.

Congressman Ron Paul says that the bailout bill is likely to pass, heralding a 10-year plus economic depression for America and the potential for martial law should civil unrest arise as the financial meltdown worsens.
Ron Paul
The Congressman said that Greenspan and Bernanke should be criminally charged but that such an effort would be largely symbolic. “Morally speaking, they’re the culprits,” said Paul.
Speaking on The Alex Jones Show, Paul said of the bailout, “They want dictatorship, they want to pass all the penalties and suffering on to the average person on Main Street,” adding, “We will have a depression or recession, it’s locked in place due to previous Federal Reserve actions.”
“When they say that if we don’t do exactly as they say and turn over more of our money and more of our liberties and exempt themselves from any court in the whole nation, they’re trying to intimidate us and lead us into doing the wrong thing,” said Paul.
The Congressman added that serious problems would arise if nothing was done to address the problem, but that more serious consequences would follow should the bailout be passed.
Paul warned that the only question was whether the meltdown would last one year or ten years and how much liberty would be lost in that time frame.
“It looks like from I see in Congress, that they’re opting for a decade plus of depression rather than saying let’s correct our ways, let’s balance the budget, let’s bring our troops home,” said Paul, adding that the same course of printing money would continue - prolonging the agony and preventing a necessary correction.
Asked if civil unrest was a possibility in the midst of an economic depression, referencing a recent Army Times report concerning the use of active duty military being brought back from Iraq for “Homeland patrols” and “crowd control,” Paul questioned, “Are we going to have martial law or are we going to have more freedoms? The more problems that we have, the more likely it is that we’re going to have martial law, so I do think they anticipate and they plan for these things.”
Asked if criminal investigations and prosecutions of individuals on Wall Street should commence, Paul agreed but said that the main target of criminal inquiry should be the Federal Reserve board itself because, “That’s where the fraud is.”
“They want to be lawless, they don’t want to be held accountable,” he added.
Paul said that grand juries should be convened to take on prosecutions rather than the FBI becoming involved, stating, “We have proper authority with that and experience with it and the Enron case is a good example.”
The Congressman said that Greenspan and Bernanke should be criminally charged but that such an effort would be largely symbolic. “Morally speaking, they’re the culprits,” said Paul.
Asked what his solution to the crisis would be, Paul said, “I think the most important thing to do is to send the message that we’re going to quit living beyond our means and the president can set the standard for that and he has the most control under the Constitution on foreign policy - he can say no more wars, we’re done with the wars, we’re not going to take on the Russians, we’re not going to take on people in Venezuela, we’re going to start talking to the Cubans and bring our troops home and save hundreds of billions of dollars - that would send a powerful message that the dollar would respond to and oil prices would come down.”
Paul said that Americans had to accept a new idea of government that harked back to what the founders envisaged and that the welfare state would have to unravel along with aspirations of building a geopolitical empire.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul made a short appearance on the nationally syndicated Alex Jones show yesterday and elaborated on his recent warning of an imminent major event that could send liberty into hibernation. Referring to his statement before the House last week in which he warned of "chaos about to be unleashed" on the economic and political system, the Congressman told listeners: "Most of the thoughts going through my mind concerned the relationship of foreign policy and how it's draining and bankrupting us and the critical problems that we have in the financial sector today." "I dwell on the dollar because hundreds of billions of dollars have been allotted to bail out the housing program, that puts weight on the dollar, and the dollar is going down so we can expect a lot of inflation and a weak economy and I think we're seeing the beginning of a major economic event." Paul continued. "If you don't save the dollar, everybody is going to suffer a lot more than anyone ever dreamed of, I mean you can keep trying to prop up the system and reinflate the bubble, and try to care of everybody receiving welfare checks, but what happens when the money doesn't buy anything?" Revolution Ron Paul Style, the Fun is Just Beginning

As anyone who has been paying attention to the Ron Paul r3VOLution knows, the movement was never really about getting Ron Paul elected president – although that certainly should have happened considering the other (cough) candidates and it would have been the icing on the cake – it was about getting the message of freedom back into the American consciousness. His was a campaign about getting rid of the Fed and returning to honest money. His was a campaign about dismantling the IRS, eliminating the income tax and allowing the people to keep the fruits of their labor. It was a campaign about ending not only the war in Iraq, but American involvement in all wars. It was about bringing home not only the men fighting and dying on foreign battlefields, but those conducting their everyday lives on bases even in peaceful countries where our imperial presence is maintained. It was about paring down the centralized federal government to a more manageable size and freeing ourselves from its omnipresence. Basically, it was about changing the paradigm we live in and ridding ourselves of our dependency on government.
It is difficult, however, to build a structure upside down. A pyramid with its point planted firmly in the ground and its base floating in the air high above is destined to fall over one day. Politics in a republic can follow a similar fate. The head of government can accomplish nothing if his base is spread out far above him trying to outflank him to maintain power. In order for the structure to maintain its stability, it must be built from the bottom up. It is therefore necessary to start electing freedom loving politicians to local offices and as representatives. These are the slabs of stone we will be able to build upon as we structure our political system to support smaller government of an individual mindset rather than the collectivist, socialist style system of authoritarian government we have today. Anyone who understands this message of liberty, is principled and can afford to do so should run for local office and try to start by reducing the size of local government. These people can do something such as signing a smaller government pledge in order to show their sincerity.

Dr. Ron Paul's new book "The Revolution: A Manifesto" will be the #1 nonfiction book in the May 18th New York Times Best Seller List!
The New York Times Book Review
http://www.dailypaul.com/files/nyt-bsl2.pdf
The Ludwig von Mises Institute says:
"Ron Paul wrote this book in the midst of his 2007-2008 educational campaign for the Republican nomination. It is a response to the demand from so many to understand the political and economic philosophy that led to his campaign, which was a defining moment in modern libertarian history. The result is outstanding. He patiently explains why the average voter must care about liberty and what can be done about it in terms of public policy. He explains the workings of the free market, the incompetence of government, the real purpose of the Constitution, the dangers of an imperial foreign policy and much more.
You learn things in this book that don't appear anywhere else. He explains that government has increased in size regardless of the party that is in power and why this happens. He takes on all three branches of government and the entire process that is rigged against the the American people. Mostly, however, he shows that there is no reason for despair. A people determined to keep their freedom will do so, provided they refuse to go along with the status quo that the regime offers.
Ron says that if we are to enjoy peace, freedom, and prosperity once again, we absolutely must return to the principles upon which America was founded.
This book was a bestseller even before it came off the presses. There can be no question that this is the best political primer written in our age, and it has a strong emphasis on the Austrian School of economics, as well as the contribution of the Mises Institute toward public education.
Here is a book that you will appreciate, and you will want to hand out to all your friends and colleagues. You will especially enjoy his reading list at the end.
Ron Paul is a hero of our times, and it seems that this book, of all his books, will go down in history as his greatest work."

From Amazon.com Editorial Review:
"This Much Is True: You Have Been Lied To.
The government is expanding.
Taxes are increasing.
More senseless wars are being planned.
Inflation is ballooning.
Our basic freedoms are disappearing.
The Founding Fathers didn't want any of this. In fact, they said so quite clearly in the Constitution of the United States of America. Unfortunately, that beautiful, ingenious, and revolutionary document is being ignored more and more in Washington. If we are to enjoy peace, freedom, and prosperity once again, we absolutely must return to the principles upon which America was founded. But finally, there is hope . . .
In THE REVOLUTION,Texas congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul has exposed the core truths behind everything threatening America, from the real reasons behind the collapse of the dollar and the looming financial crisis, to terrorism and the loss of our precious civil liberties. In this book, Ron Paul provides answers to questions that few even dare to ask.
Despite a media blackout, this septuagenarian physician-turned-congressman sparked a movement that has attracted a legion of young, dedicated, enthusiastic supporters . . . a phenomenon that has amazed veteran political observers and made more than one political rival envious. Candidates across America are already running as "Ron Paul Republicans."
'Dr. Paul cured my apathy,' says a popular campaign sign. THE REVOLUTION may cure yours as well.

"Well, apparently the maverick Texan's Republican presidential campaign is hanging up its Constitution, ending his campaign yesterday in a 7 minute video posted on his web site. Paul tried to soothe anxious supporters by letting them know his "campaign for freedom will continue in this new phase." While his campaign would not formally organize future events, he encouraged supporters to continue to organize on behalf of a broader movement. After being systematically ignored by mainstream media, whereby the rest of the nation believe only two Republican candidates are left for the party nomination, Dr. Ron Paul reaches out to his supporters to march against US Imperialism in the nation's capital in the upcoming months. His campaign for the nomination is still going, although the strategy has changed.
Many people have expressed confusion over what this doctor and congressman from Texas really stands for. To many, like myself, some of his stances on issues such as his opposition to US imperialism of any sort, income tax, and government/special interest control on environmental issues, are very appealing. But, he marginalized himself from the Republican party by his "radical" ideas, garnering a majority of his support from the Independent sector. Still, he is the only candidate out of all, including Democrats, that truly opposed the war from the start by voting against it (Obama voted for the war then rescinded).
Even if this guy doesn't go any further from here, we can't deny that he awakened a great deal of Americans to rethink what freedom means and how integrity plays a part in politics. Does he deserve to be heard? After being systematically ignored by mainstream media, whereby the rest of the nation... more
