Being robbed is a pain in the rear end at the best of times, but as you can see from this remarkable X-ray, Ying Shi, 26, was left with a nasty reminder of the ordeal.
Doctors found a razor-sharp six-inch blade buried so far into her bottom that it was pressing into her bladder.
'All I remember of the night was a stabbing pain in my backside. I thought they had just slashed me, I didn't realise the whole blade had gone all the way in,' she said.
Doctors in Shanghai, eastern China, were stumped by Ying's stomach complaints, until they performed a scan.
'I am amazed they missed it the first time around but very relieved that they've found it now,' she said.Being robbed is a pain in the rear end at the best of times, but as you can see from... more

Challenge 25 (the law saying if you look under 25 and try to buy booze or blades you have to prove you're over 18) is totally a good idea. If only for stories like this one.
A 28 year old woman in Derby was moving house, needed a pizza cutter, tried to buy one from M&S, ended up in a terse exchange with the checkout clerk over the need for ID when purchasing a pizza cutter. The fact that the woman didn't fly off the handle and go on a pizza cutter rampage should probably have been proof enough that she can handle the responsibility of the 'weapon'.
Though, all jokes aside, it is a pretty sad indictment of our society if we're being ID'd for pizza cutters.Challenge 25 (the law saying if you look under 25 and try to buy booze or blades you... more
The first "anti-stab" knife will soon go on sale in Britain and has been designed to work as normal in the kitchen, but be ineffective as a weapon.
The knife has a unique "combination tip" that reduces the risk of injury. The tip has a rounded edge instead of a point and the blade for cutting is underneath. While it can chop vegetables, the tip makes penetration more difficult. It also snags on clothing and skin, making it very unlikely to inflict a fatal wound.
Doctors have lobbied in the past for kitchen knives to be redesigned. They argue that while a redesign is not a complete solution to the complex problem of knife crime, it could help to save lives.
The knife, which is expected to be launched in late autumn, has been tested with "very favourable" results by the Home Office's Design and Technology Alliance - set up to research products that can deter crime. It has also been welcomed by those in the medical profession and the police. The first "anti-stab" knife will soon go on sale in Britain and has been designed to... more

The police said that the commando’s partner told him during an act of intimacy that she had had sex with many other men before. However, her previous sex life was much more interesting for her than that she was having with her husband, she added.
The man lost control over himself because of such straightforward remarks. The furious husband attacked the woman, inflicted many stab wounds on her and cut off her head. Afterwards, he threw the beheaded body out from the balcony of his apartment .
The idea to cut off the woman’s head did not occur to the man incidentally, the police said. The former commando has served in a number of hotspots, including the Caucasus, where he heard many fearful stories about Muslim warriors. One of the stories said that the warriors decapitate their unfaithful wives. Therefore, the man decided to find out whether it was difficult to cut off the head of a human being with the help of a kitchen knife.
It is worthy of note that women can be extremely brutal towards their husbands too. A hideous crime was committed about a month ago in the town of Nikopol, Ukraine. The woman dismembered her husband (a former commando as well), who was in a habit of darting knives at her.
Passers-by found the body early in the morning. The body had no arms, no legs and no head.
The police later determined that the woman had slaughtered her husband after he started practicing the art of self-defense using his wife as a potential attacker. The man was in a state of alcoholic intoxication.
The woman told the police that her husband made her stand against the door and started darting knives at her. The former commando darted only one knife: the woman grabbed a hammer and hit him on the head with all her might.
The wife dragged the body into the barn and severed the man’s arms and legs. The man was still alive. When she separated the head from the body, she put the body parts into a plastic bag and threw the remains into a garbage can. Afterwards, she took the torso to the lake and threw it off from a pier. The police said that the commando’s partner told him during an act of intimacy that... more

Consumer watchdogs have found that some body amour which is supplied to debt collectors, doormen and children, are faling on stab and knife slash tests by a big margin. A manufacturer was prosecuted for selling "stab resistent" vests on eBay for £60 which did not meet the European Standards advertised. He was fined £6,000
Worcestershire County Council trading standards officer Leanne McLean said 'We became suspicious because the price seemed too good to be true. These stab vests could have resulted in the wearer being seriously injured. The penalty imposed by the court reflected the seriousness of this case.'

'WEAPONS? DISCUSS...' is a consultation film made in collaboration with young people across Leeds. This film spearheads AMI's commitment to spreading the weapons awareness message amongst young people all over the UK. The project was born out of our desire to provide targeted participants with a programme of activity that could help them improve upon their existing ICT skills, whilst collaborating to produce a resource for weapons awareness practitioners within the community, as well as supporting emerging musical artists from around the city. The film features on a forthcoming DVD project aimed directly at schools and youth groups. This film stands in stark contrast to the majority of films exploring the issue of gun and knife crime amongst Britain's young people as it was created through direct consultation with young people. The film provides tthe young people with the oppurtunity to articulate their opinions on the causation, culture, and future of gun and knife crime, and thus the film offers an insightful view into the reality of the issue. The film was graded in a monochrome black and white and it was shot with high specification prime lenses.

’THESE STREETS’ is a music promo that we completed as part of a DVD-based weapons awareness project. It was commissioned by Leeds City Council through their ERDF funded RouteMap project and co-financed by ourselves at the start of 2008. This project was born out of our desire to provide a high quality resource for weapons awareness practitioners within Leeds and West Yorkshire. The project also gave targeted participants a programme of activity that helped them develop their ICT skills and an opportunity to be a part of something positive. A secondary aim of the project was to support local musicians and artists by creating two broadcast quality video promos that we hoped would raise their profile and promote the weapons awareness agenda at the same time. All the films in this project are dedicated to the memory of our friend, Pat Regan - the brightest light in the campaign against gun and knife crime. The beats for this track were produced by Tom Stewart (Breaking The Illusion), whilst the artists collaborating on the track are Kockee K, Low-Key (Yorkshire Terrierz), Dogge (Yorkshire Terrierz), Norty, K-One (CAG), Lady Ai (Afro Physics) and Pat herself. Biographies of the featured artists and the track as a fee downloadable MP3 can be found on the project myspace page –

‘WHO’S TO BLAME’ is a music promo that we completed as part of a DVD-based weapons awareness project. It was commissioned by Leeds City Council and co-financed by ourselves at the start of 2008. It's a great video that really makes a statement about gun crime.
The project was born out of our desire to provide targeted participants with a programme of activity that could help them improve upon their existing ICT skills, whilst collaborating to produce a resource for weapons awareness practitioners within the community, as well as supporting emerging musical artists from around the city. Teen gangs in London have been ordering lethal X-Men-style bladed weapons that disembowel their victims.
Customs officers have intercepted a number of parcels from the US that contain "handspikes", shown in the picture above. Called Tomahawk Skull Gauntlet, the weapons sell for £40 and an internet review promises "with this gauntlet strapped to your arm there is no question you are the man in charge. This monstrous handspike will not only protect your grip but will send your foes running in the other direction.”

Fatal stabbings in England and Wales have risen to their highest level in three decades, according to new figures released under the Freedom of Information Act.
The figures show 277 stabbing deaths in 2007-8. Police confirmed they were the highest figures since records began in 1977.
Ministers, nevertheless, say that violent crime is falling. Earlier this month Home Secretary Jacqui Smith apologised for using unofficial statistics to suggest the number of hospital admissions with stab wounds had dropped significantly.Fatal stabbings in England and Wales have risen to their highest level in three... more
