Russia is ready to cooperate with new US President Barack Obama on Afghanistan, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday as he visited Moscow's Central Asian ally Uzbekistan.
"We are ready to cooperate on this issue practically with all the countries, including the United States," he said in Tashkent, following talks with his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov.
"Let's hope the new US administration will be more successful than the previous one as far as Afghanistan-related issues are concerned," he added.

Just when I think I will give up and let things take their course, no one is listening, along comes Naomi Wolf. Naomi will go down in history as a voice lighting the way out of the dark years of George W. Bush and the neocons.
Naomi Wolf wrote: So let me get this straight. The Democrats in Congress cannot even get their own members together to defend the Constitution against a supremely unpopular executive who has essentially spit in their faces, eaten their lunch and the nation's, and publicly called them out as powerless. Not to mention the fact that they are setting a precedent for the future that any executive can emasculate any Congress and defy any subpoena after having committed possibly any crime. Still they are trembling under the barstools -- summoning up, perhaps, the courage to crawl out fully prone and toss their untouched guns humbly at the feet of the posse.
Remember this: each and every member of Congress took an oath -- and the oath was not to some abstract government, it was an oath TO YOU -- to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States." Unlike many good people across the political spectrum who are appalled at this dismantling of the three-part system the founders put in place and the besmirching of the rule of law, Congressional Republicans have clearly decided to place their allegiance to the president and their party over their allegiance to the Constitution. This is bad enough; this is, in fact, treason. But the Democrats do not even have that party allegiance as an excuse for their treachery. They would be standing up for their party, the institution of Congress, and the Constitution by passing the contempt resolutions. What more will it take to get them to act?

Americans have yet to stop shopping and look at what has been done in Iraq in our name. Americans don't want to see the damage done by our pre-emptive war with Iraq. Will they want to see the damage done by a pre-emptive nuclear attack against Iran? Americans need honest journalism! The spin (lies) should be unacceptable! Accountability is what is needed to change the course we are on. Mainstream media perpetuated the lies! What did they know and when did they know it? What do they know now? Why aren't they telling us? We are getting campaign overload while "first strike" nuclear options are being considered for our future!

Well, now we know. Scientists have documented that the Bush/Cheney Administration has been a greater threat to Americans' health and safety than Osama Bin Laden and his terror band.
Specifically, The New York Times, in its science section today, reports that a new study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry has found that while the risk to Americans of dying at the hands of a terrorist was roughly equal to the chance of "drowning in a toilet," the risk of cardiovascular disease among people who are frightened about the threat of terrorism is 300%-500% higher than for people who are not worried.
What this means is that the Bush/Cheney Administration, by constantly hyping the nation's fears of terror through the use of everything from daily color-coded terror alerts, to absurd inspection procedures at airline terminals and parcel post restrictions, is actually scaring some of us to death. And for what?
From the moment those planes hit the World Trade Center and the Pentagon back in September 2001, Bush, Cheney, and their allies -- Republican and Democrat -- in Congress and the media have been peppering us with warnings that the "bad guys" are out to kill us, to destroy our way of life, and to defeat America.
It has been a ludicrous idea from the start. The idea that a small gang of guys from the Middle East could bring the mightiest nation that the world has ever known to its knees, or even significantly threaten the safety and security of the people of the United States is simply absurd and laughable. Why, even the detonation of a small smuggled nuclear device in or near an American city, should such a thing ever come to pass, would be less of a threat to the nation as a whole than the eruption of one of our many active volcanoes -- say Mt. Rainier or Mt. Hood, or the Yellowstone caldera -- or an 8 or 9-point earthquake in San Francisco or Los Angeles. And those natural disasters are probably more likely than the explosion of a terrorist nuke.
Yet Bush, Cheney, and other charlatans such as Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and the former senator and now Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Rick Santorum continue to do the scare routine, warning that we are in grave danger -- from Al Qaeda or Iran getting The Bomb, to Venezuela buying military aircraft from Brazil, to Cuba manufacturing dangerous biological weaponsDave Lindorff

OOOps, 'Nothing to see here, move along!' Will we? VotersUnite.org's John Gideon calls our attention to this snippet, from this recent story at NH's SeaCoastOnline [emphasis ours]:
So many Democrats turned out in Stratham that Town Clerk Shirley Daley said she had to photocopy 87 ballots. Hartson said she began printing extra Democratic ballots at 6 p.m. when they began running low. Because of a glitch in the machines, clerks there had to hand count all of the extra ballots.
Gideon follows up by asking: "They had to hand-count all of the extra ballots. What about the ballots that had already been run on the machines (note the plural)? How many other machines across the state had the same 'glitch'?"
We tried to contact Town Clerk Daley on Friday, in order to find out, what came of the ballots counted before the problem was discovered, but their offices close at 12noon on Fridays.
As to further such incidents across the state, it seems there were far more than anyone has so far reported. We will have another article shortly, concerning such reports of problems on Diebold voting machine across the state during last week's Primary Election. 80% of New Hampshire votes were counted on such machines. To date, none of those ballots have been counted, verified or audited by any human being to our knowledge.
