Moving a blog can make it unreachable for 24 – 72 hours, unless the new domain name has fully propagated around the Internet. It is just the way it is and WordPress doesn’t have anything to do with such limitation. Moving is best done when you have the time or have planned ahead.
Moving Towards a New Domain Name
The first thing to do is create a database back-up. The entire WordPress installation needs to be downloaded with no exceptions. This is not the time to tidy up your install or to upgrade/change anything. That would have to wait after the blog has been moved and is shown to be working. Your computer should now have these items: one or more database backups plus all your wpfiles, folders and images directories. The backups should be copied again to somewhere safe on your machine so that the next stage can be done on a copy.
Alterations are needed to be made. The details of your new mysql connection have to be changed by opening the file “wp-config.php” on your WordPress install. The file: SCR 1.0.002 Freeware Edition (13KB) should be downloaded to search and replace your website URL with your Xampp url. This is because your blog address inside the database has to be changed. Database files can be very large, thus opening them can be excruciatingly slow. It could even crash your machine. By replacing the old address with your new address, the URLs within your site will still work.
Moving hosts will mean changes in your passwords. You can double check your new passwords for your mysql connection as well as other passwords that you have in use. After which, it is now time to upload all your files to your new web space and restore your database. From the website cpanel, select the database you are using. You should still need to look inside the “wp – options” table to check that the values in “site – url” and “home” are correct. Clear your cache and cookies before checking your new site.
It is possible that you will get a blank page when looking at your blog right after moving. In this case, the themes should be checked. A faulty theme file causes a blank page. You can try changing themes or uploading a new theme then changing to it. Should this step not help, you should check whether all the WordPress files are present and are of the correct size. You can use your ftp client to download a new set of WordPress files, if needed.
There may be instances where you would need to move WordPress around within your server. WordPress is flexible enough to handle this situation. Moving WordPress from one server to another is also possible.Moving a blog can make it unreachable for 24 – 72 hours, unless the new domain name... more

Once celebrated for their ability to pack up and move around the country on a whim, Americans are increasingly opting to stay put, according to a report published by the Pew Research Center.
Using polling data and government statistics, Pew found only 13 percent of Americans moved house between 2006-2007, the lowest rate since records began in the 1940s.
According to Thursday's report, roaming has been on the wane since the 1960s -- an era when millions followed beatnik author Jack Kerouac "On the Road."
Analysts say the slipping trend is due to an aging population. "The US population is getting older and most moves are made when people are young," Pew researchers noted.
While the annual rate of migration had stood since the 1960s at around 60 percent, that had fallen last year to its lowest level ever with the onslaught of the property crisis.
Some 38.6 million people moved between 2006-2007, the lowest number since 1982-1983, a period which also saw an economic downturn.

Azazel Jacobs, a filmmaker, was home visiting his parents, being doted on and cared for, when, he says, "One morning I found food and coffee waiting for me. And I thought, Hey, why did I leave this? I thought it was funny, and I started toying around with that idea."
Out of that experience came the film, "Momma's Man," which is now traveling the festival circuit, about a grown man who goes back home to live with his parents. The kicker is that it stars Azazel's real life mother and father (who happens to be a famous avante garde filmmaker in his own right), and was shot in the childhood apartment he grew up in.
In making this film and showing it to audiences, Azazel has tested the strength of his own relationship with his parents, and how it exemplifies unique traits that our generation has with our parents.

Sometimes a seemingly unimportant story surprisingly ends up being very emotionally touching. And so it is with the scenario of this English lad, a 2007 contestant on England's Britain’s Got Talent. In the first video of the story, a shy Craig Womersley in a glam, glittering, twinkling costume bashfully tells the judges that his talent is baton-twirling. A performance that will surely turn out to be painfully miserable.
Then Craig reveals he's kept his baton-twirling a secret from his parents for years, fearing being shamed by them. When he launches into his routine, the audience immediately goes absolutely mad, cheering and clapping with excitement.
In the second video, Craig performs on Britain's Got Talent a few weeks later. He had finally told his parents about his baton-twirling. Now out of the closet, about his baton-twirling, his parents have come to the show. I won't spoil how this turns out, but it's touching, tender and heartwarming.

Four Texas metropolitan areas were among the biggest population gainers as Americans continued their trend of moving to the Sun Belt in 2006 and 2007, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates to be released Thursday.
Dallas-Fort Worth added more than 162,000 residents between July 2006 and July 2007, more than any other metro area. Three other Texas areas -- Houston, Austin and San Antonio -- also cracked the top 10.
Atlanta saw the second-largest population jump with just over 151,000 new residents. Phoenix, Arizona, was third with more than 132,000, and was followed by Houston, Texas; Riverside, California; Charlotte, North Carolina; Chicago, Illinois; Austin, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada and San Antonio, Texas.Four Texas metropolitan areas were among the biggest population gainers as Americans... more
