Debate is currently going on regarding instituting a financial transaction tax on certain trades of 0.25% that could raise billions to basically slow the short term investment volatility that has made Wall Street now little more than a crap table at a casino. This is an interesting report that gives answers regarding what it is, Europe's response, the U.S.'s response ( hint: Geithner tried to talk others out of it to the cheering of Corporate America) and the all out effort by Wall Street to stop it.
Personally I think it needs to be considered as a viable way to curb the high-frequency stock trades that drive short-term financial thinking and provide a way for us to tax the rich in a way that will not end the world but enrich it for the whole. There are a myriad of ways such income could be used but of course that is assuming it is handled in a diligent and prudent manner.
Also, it is not just about the money but the moral investment along with the financial that ensures growth and sustainability not only of the investment but the environment. You simply cannot have true growth in a short term market timeframe. As we have seen it only leads to collapse and environmental devastation.
There was a time when people who were entrepreneurs with big ideas sought out longterm investing in the hopes of those ideals not only making profits over the longterm, but also in bringing about an atmosphere that was not exclusive, predatory, or tipped to only favor one specific entity at the expense of all others.
However, this is a symptom of a bigger societal problem where quick fixes and getting everything fast has infected every part of society. Fast food, instant messaging, fast internet connections at lightning speed and quick fix democracy (case in point the 2000 USSC decision that picked the wrong man as president) are just a small sampling of the society we have made where fast transactions for quick profit and gratification without considering the longterm consequences in comparison to sustainability have now also led us to a climate tipping point as well. And yes, that is insane and needs to change if we are to save our markets and ourselves.Debate is currently going on regarding instituting a financial transaction tax on... more

With the Keystone XL pipeline on hold, the giant companies tapping Canada’s oil sands will turn to Plan B — existing pipelines to the United States.
Those pipelines, which now carry slightly more than 1 million barrels a day from Canada’s oil sands to the United States, can be expanded by adding pumping stations. Some companies, notably Enbridge, already have plans to boost the capacity of their lines and speed the journey of crude from Alberta to Texas.
.“It’s inevitable that it will get here. This oil will have to find a market,” said Fadel Gheit, oil analyst with Oppenheimer & Co. “All these competing pipelines are going to rethink their strategy.”
That would disappoint foes of the Keystone XL pipeline, who hope that the delay or defeat of the project would impede the growth in output from the oil sands, whose exploitation releases 5 to 15 percent more greenhouse gases than the average crude used in the United States.
Asked what the Keystone delay would mean for oil sands development, a spokesman for Chevron, which owns 20 percent of one of the oil sands projects, said: “The Keystone decision has no implications for Chevron.”
The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers forecasts that oil sands output will nearly double from 1.5 million barrels a day in 2010 to 2.9 million barrels a day by 2020. Proponents of the Keystone XL pipeline warned that a rejection of the project would lead to exports to China via a pipeline to Canada’s west coast, or shipments to the United States using barges, trucks and railroads, thus creating a larger carbon footprint.
Many Canadians prefer a pipeline to be built from Alberta to eastern Canada, which still imports oil from Saudi Arabia.
But oil analysts said Friday that existing pipelines to the United States offer the easiest and most likely fallback plans.
Enbridge is a likely choice for oil companies seeking additional pipeline space over the next two or three years. The company’s 1,000-mile long Alberta Clipper line, which went into operation last year, goes from Hardesty, Alberta, to Superior, Wis., and has an initial capacity of 450,000 barrels a day. But it can be pushed up to 800,000 barrels a day, the company says. That alone would make up for half of the capacity Keystone XL would have added.

This is made for the people! Please share... the music was composed by my son years ago and when I heard it... it broke my heart to know that at 23 he was feeling the depth of a ticking time bomb... his world as he knew it then was certain to fail. He used the sound sample from the movie Network and electonically altered the message... I found myself glued to the images on the internet and was compelled to make this video. Power to the people! New York - A special police task force swooped down on Wall Street this morning to arrest hundreds of investment and high-finance executives accused of defrauding and possibly destroying the world’s economic system.
But the cops were distracted by a group of demonstrators who were denouncing Wall Street fraud, and wound up arresting the protesters instead of the alleged con artists.

Raphael Garcia has always been good with his hands. From drawing to assembling, tinkering to fabricating, the independent contractor has spent his life obsessed with learning how things work. His innovations and ingenuity have led him to apply for a patent on an idea he’s had for years: A wind generator for automobiles.
Anyone who has stuck their hand out their car’s window while driving on the freeway knows how wind whips across a vehicle while it’s in motion. Garcia’s design features a series of generators and turbines housed under a vehicle that would use the surging wind to replenish an electric car’s lithium-ion battery.
