CHICAGO, July 28 (Reuters) - One of three U.S. adults already suffers from some degree of hearing loss and the use of personal stereos and an aging population may create a hearing impairment epidemic, researchers said on Monday.
A team at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore estimated that 55 million Americans have hearing loss in one or both ears, with men, whites and the least-educated most affected.
One out of six, or 29 million adults, have some trouble discerning speech, more than previous estimates, they reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
"The prevalence of hearing loss in the United States is predicted to rise significantly because of an aging population and the growing use of personal listening devices. Indeed, there is concern that we may be facing an epidemic of hearing impairment," Dr. Yuri Agrawal of the Baltimore hospital wrote.
It is common for people to ignore or disavow hearing loss, the researchers said, leading to difficulty communicating that can result in productivity problems at work, depression, and less access to health care that ultimately raises the risk of sickness and death.
Hearing loss is common among people 70 and older, according to the report. But hearing loss also affected 8.5 percent of those in their 20s and 17 percent of people in their 30s. Exposure to workplace noise, firearms, and loud music were all risk factors.

Whereas this potential growth in airport travel is being met with glee by the aviation industry, it is bringing distress to the millions of people who live close to airports and have to live daily with the noise from overhead jets. Similarly in community after community, residents are registering complaints that noises from recreational vehicles, highways, leafblowers, garbage collections, high speed-auto racing, and nearby discos are robbing them of the peace and quiet to which they believe they are entitled. You know folks, as an Environmental Acoustic Officer I got a big fish to fry. Muni has done nothing but promote crime in the City and obstructing my work to go after other big polluters out there. When I started my Volunteer Environmental Acoustic Work before the Year 2000; Muni was not in the picture. The previous buses where not noise as this new ones. I was filming from inside my Friend's House! I live a block and 1/2 from there and I can hear all these noise.
San Francisco it is a very acoustic City! That is because of the City Architectural Landscape of converging hills. Noise echoes everywhere reaching distances of one and a half block!
Many people knew that but remained silent and therefore in denial.

In this Washington Post article they state that this is the third time the FBI backed off. I know they are trying to protect the USA and are probably under White House orders, but enough is enough! Why can't the FBI stand up for our rights as well? They're there to protect and serve. Not protect and serve madmen that believe the Constitution is "...only a piece of paper." Vehicle: Pick Up Truck
Licence: California License Plate [5X53124]
Charges: Arrested and Abated for Neighborhood Acoustic Trespassing, Acoustic Nuisances.
Description of Event:
Pick up truck mentioned above had its noise alarm going off every time a Motorcycle or a Car with modified muffler passed by. The aware time of the Acoustic Violations begin at 11:00 AM and continued until 4:55 PM. Vehicle was disconnected by a civilian at 5:15 PM.
Obs: The Unusual Alarm mentioned above was going off for more than 30 seconds at the time.
Abatement was made observing the right of California Civil Rights Law.

I personally feel that there are dangerous broadcast ideologies happening today that diverts our attention to external news thus giving us the impression that our local news are less important. It looks that the problem is always elsewhere but where you live, your neighborhood, your community. I am not saying that National and International news are not important, what I am saying is that we do not have a choice from the networks and National and International news is only what we get. Now this is also a tactic practiced by many news networks to focus your head elsewhere so you will be alienated from your own neighborhood and community issues.
My goal is to practice a loop of journalism that takes care of local issues first as the spirit of GOD tells me to start an issue at home first. Local issues these days have to do with citizens living and personal security. To this point I am concerned to every aspect of local Safety & Traffic issues that favors citizens safety. For that matter is where I started to have interest for the urban acoustics issues of pollution. First there it is a challenge issue in so many ways because there are a great lack of personal public education on the issue. Government bodies, Public Transportation, Manufactories of Market and the Wrong After Market Vehicles Manufactories has been for years taking advantage of our lack of education contributing to the general pollution chaos in the City.
