This is the time of year where legends are made. It's the time where dreams are fulfilled and nightmares are created. This is when the true-grit of an NFL team becomes more important than their overall talent, where fans of any of those teams still playing get their fair share of inside information, and where almost every sports story is surrounding an angle on a playoff matchup...or not...This is the time of year where legends are made. There must be some sort of gamesmanship going on behind the scenes in Oakland. Why else would there be reports that the Oakland Raiders have requested permission to speak with New York Giants offensive coordinator, Kevin Gilbride? Right?...There must be some sort of gamesmanship going on behind the scenes in Oakland. Why... more

In part one of our Rebuilding the shield series, I explained the beginning of the raising of the Titanic that is the Oakland Raiders. In no way, shape, or form are we saying that this is the only way it will work. This is just one way that we believe will help turn the Raiders around and put then back on top of the NFL world.....In part one of our Rebuilding the shield series, I explained the beginning of the... more

Just when you thought the Raiders couldn't have any more drama until the end of the season, James Cregg called head coach Tom Cable and told him where he could stick the offensive line coach position for the Raiders. The call happened late last night after the Raiders were beaten to a pulp by the New England Patriots...Just when you thought the Raiders couldn't have any more drama until the end of... more

Randy Moss and Lamont Jordan come to Oakland to face the Raiders for the first time since both packed their bags and took the cross-country trip to New England to become Patriots. When this game was originally put on the schedule, many in Raider Nation salivated at the chance to see a much improved Raiders team send them both home as they were in silver and black - losers...Randy Moss and Lamont Jordan come to Oakland to face the Raiders for the first time... more

You don't have to go far on the web before you begin seeing either A) Former Raiders talking publicly about how bad the Oakland organization is, B) Current Raiders making comments about their unhappiness with the way things are going, or C) Raider Nation bickering and calling each other out about differing opinions. When will the soap opera stop?...You don't have to go far on the web before you begin seeing either A) Former... more

What kind of advice do you give a team that appears divided? Tell them to call Dr. Phil? The Oakland Raiders are a team, and an organization, in crisis. In other words, there are far more important issues they need to tend to before figuring out how to win a game. In the NFL, teams don't call in sick, players do. Tom Cable and the Raiders coaching staff is going to have to keep the players from 'calling in' this Sunday when they face the Carolina Panthers....What kind of advice do you give a team that appears divided? Tell them to call Dr.... more

As a fan of the Raiders, without considering the cap ramifications or the impending doom that it would cause, you'd have to be just fine with the Raiders releasing overpriced players who have failed to produce or lead this year. I admit, I first heard of this possibility from one of our avid readers here at TFDS, and my response was the following:...As a fan of the Raiders, without considering the cap ramifications or the impending... more

Lane Kiffin filed the long anticipated grievance with the NFL on Wednesday to claim money owed to him on his contract. The claim is for somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.6 million dollars for the remaining portion of his three year contract signed in January of 2007....Lane Kiffin filed the long anticipated grievance with the NFL on Wednesday to claim... more

I must really be getting up in years, because I’m already having trouble remembering just how long ago it was that Al Davis pulled the DeLorean out of the garage, called up Christopher Lloyd and told him to grab his lab jacket, and then drove around looking for 1.21 gigawatts so that he could turn back the dial on the Oakland Raiders. After watching the Raiders BE the Big Easy in Louisiana on Sunday, I think that Al’s arthritic fingers didn’t turn the dial back enough...I must really be getting up in years, because I’m already having trouble... more

After a tumultuous off-season, preseason, and first quarter of the regular season, the Raiders will begin to show how well they’ve weathered the storm this Sunday. Ironically, they’ll be doing this in a place known best for the costliest and most destructive natural disaster in the history of the United States....After a tumultuous off-season, preseason, and first quarter of the regular season, the... more

Besides the exorbitant cost of Apple’s iPhone, the main reason that I never bought one was because I need a good excuse to NOT be connected. One thing about this job, it’s a sentence to hours in front of an LCD monitor and a countless amount of reading about your topic....Besides the exorbitant cost of Apple’s iPhone, the main reason that I never... more

Now that the business of winning football games is the only thing on minds at 1220 Harbor Bay Parkway, what is it that the Oakland Raiders need to shore up before that winning can begin? The Raiders went into the bye-week ranked 19th in total offense, 25th in points per game, 17th in total defense, and 22nd in points allowed per game. Nobody can deny that the Raiders are better than at least eight teams in the NFL, but if they plan to be one of the top eight in the AFC they’ll have to figure out ways to get better on both sides of the ball....Now that the business of winning football games is the only thing on minds at 1220... more

Now that the hysteria has died down, the reality has sunk in, and everyone has already formed their opinions on one of this week’s biggest stories of the week - along with the bailout, the V.P. debate and now O.J. getting convicted and going to prison possibly for life. The story of Al and Lane is over, but left behind is the same question that the Raiders have been facing since Bill Callahan was fired over five years ago: Will the Raiders ever win again?...Now that the hysteria has died down, the reality has sunk in, and everyone has already... more

We’ve heard it all before. We’re hearing it again, and the song keeps playing like a broken record. “We’re close. We’ve just got to keep working and we’ll figure it out.“ At this point, Raider Nation could collaboratively write a country music smash hit. At least that record hasn’t been heard yet. If Kiffin is fired, Raider Nation could be hearing that record played again, and again, and again over the next several years...We’ve heard it all before. The soap opera that is the Oakland Raiders front office makes for great theater, but a horrid way to run a professional football franchise. The biggest piece to the drama is the lack of any significant official comments one way or another on the situation dating back to the beginning of the Lane Kiffin saga in January. There is one way that this drama could be put to bed for good, and that would be for Al Davis to hold court with the media and answer some questions about what is going on inside Raiders headquarters. The soap opera that is the Oakland Raiders front office makes for great theater, but a... more

After the first game of the season, where the Raiders bombed out on Monday Night Football against the Broncos, it was pretty certain in many people’s minds that the Raiders weren’t going to worry about winning this season for a coach on the chopping block. We said as much here and many of the media pundits and former players said so as well. Since that time, we’ve seen inspired performances by a team that many consider an afterthought in the race for the playoffs, and since this team should be sitting near the top of the AFC West with a 2-1 record, the questions have come again and Kiffin had the answers....After the first game of the season, where the Raiders bombed out on Monday Night... more

The Oakland Raiders got another loss, this time to the Buffalo Bills. The Raiders outplayed the Bills for the better part of three quarters only to give the game away to the Bills 24-23. As he did last week against Kansas City, once the Raiders were fully in control and on their way to a second straight win, Rob Ryan pulled out his 4th quarter playbook....The Oakland Raiders got another loss, this time to the Buffalo Bills.
